Rambo First Blood

Was this movie exaggerating about the poor treatment of veterans in the USA or was it accurate? If true, that is messed up. This man just wanted respect and a normal job. Scene made me tear up.

respect is something you have to earn

Nah, respect is default. They learned what happens when you just wantonly disrespect people.

Yes. The idea of small town cops abusing a veteran for fun is ludicrous.

I thought cops being corrupt buttholes was more of a recent years thing.

Teasle was a war veteran from the Korean War. He didn't like Vitenam veterans. And his partner was a total corrupt bully cop.

It's far worse than in that movie in Australia. For any hero. I sat through a talk about a soldier who was locked up in a mental institution after ww1 or 2. They tried to take his victoria cross off him. That's when I realized it wss never a good country. I asked why he wasn't broken out, and they just smiled and acted like psychology is normal and the authority, akin to and part of the army. The best people get fricked over. It's saddening and enraging. Cowards affiliate with what makes the world worse, so it doesn't pick them to prey on. It is that simple.

    Literally depends on the town.
I was told by American Vets that cops dont like em and vice versa so I dunno, ask Vets and LEOs.

I am and I deeply regret it a combat veteran and have killed people. I have medals for valour and wounds that I absolutely do not deserve since I basically ran away. All I can tell you is other men can tell you have killed somehow and you will never have a friend again for the rest of your life or ever be anything other than completely alone. It is what it is

You ran away like Forrest, getting shot in the buttocks?

About friends, the only true friend is God. Every other friend you ever have will disappoint you at some point. God will not.

No, other men can't tell that.

I wonder if its the same in all countries. Is weird how soldiers get so much hate. I don't understand.

In the US they fight for the billionaire elites interests, not our national security or defense. You would spit on them too if you were a true American.

If people hate the war, they hate you for having taken part in it, even if you were drafted/conscripted. And because they get to see you with their own two eyes unlike the actual people who are responsible for the war in the first place the hate is that much stronger.

General attitude back at the time? On point. But the actual events in the movie are obviously exaggerated, all of this to happening to a guy who didn't make no trouble in such a short time is obviously contrived. Half of it would be more realistic, e.g. they throw him into county jail for a couple of days but they don't also beat him up.

Critical support to the maoist third worldist sheriffs in their fight against the reactionary footsoldiers of imperialism.

(actual Vietnam veterans were treated neutrally which enraged people who mostly only remembered wild victory parades. homeless drug addicts were treated badly even if they were veterans, but those same people liked that.)

It was exaggerated, based on bullshit stories of Vietnam vets being spit on as they returned from deployment. It was lies circulated to discredit the anitwar movement.

I served in Iraq and then Afghanistan. I killed some people, saw people die, and when I was back home sometimes I'd be met by people who'd say fricking "thank you for your service" and act like we were doing something good over there. Nearly knocked my cousin's block off when he got angry at me for agreeing with some blogger that Bush and Cheney should be in chains.

By the time I was finally able to leave the service completely, I was thoroughly antiwar. Shit like Rambo is bullshit propaganda for kiddies who get hard dreaming of glory (always guys who never fricking served, or could serve). Frick First Blood and all the shit like it.

Absolutely knew someone would do that. Appreciate it.

        >I'm so angry that I did those things that I volunteered to do and it's everyone else's fault but me

Frick you too. I volunteered to serve. And did, even though it was clear we were being used. Pols and pundit -- repubs, almost exclusively -- were going on and on about "they volunteered". As if we volunteered to be used as tools of the plutocrats.

        >I regret nothing because im perfect and i’ve never made a mistake in my life.
The guy probably thought it was the right thing to do and later realised he’d been tricked or made a mistake.
Eat shit and die, you horrible cretin.

Kinda, pretty much. Was already leaning towards a military career, 9/11 happened my senior year and I went ahead. Can't say there wasn't lots of good about it, but holy frick were those wars a disaster from start to end (to the extent they've ended)
