I'm not a huge fan of Star Trek and this is my actual opinion.
Into Darkness
The Motion Picture
Wrath of Khan
The Voyage Home
Insurrection
The Final Frontier
First Contact
Nemesis
The Search For Spock
Generations
Beyond
Star Trek '09
The Undiscovered Country
>Into Darkness #1 ???
It's a fun movie. The script problems and plot holes are only an issue if you overthink it.
Star Trek was always kind of shit, and Into Darkness is the least shit.
>Insurrection that high ???
Low budget, script problems, sure, but it's a nice relaxed movie. Feels like a better TNG episode.
> The Final Frontier that high ???
It's fun and funny.
>The Search for Spock that low ???
It's boring.
> Star Trek '09 that low ???
Simply does not hold up on rewatches.
> The Undiscovered Country at the bottom ???
Old Trek at its worst. Political drama with the Klingons as a platform for cold-war/ww2 soapboxing gets a yawn.
Parents were kind of nerdy/90's "family values" American christians, so we watched all the trek movies together when I was growing up.
When the new ones came out I watched them out of some sense of nostalgic obligation.
Actually went back and rewatched all of the movies recently for fun, just a few months ago: and this is where they landed.
>1. The Motion Picture
Feels the most authentically Star Trek, and appropriately ups the scale and stakes as the first film endeavor. TOS has always been my favorite because it's the most true to the science fiction form, and TMP continues that legacy with a mind-bending concept. Robert Wise was fantastic and the perfect choice to direct. This film also does itself a great service by taking itself the most seriously. >2. The Wrath of Khan
Excellent effects, acting, and pacing, and ofcourse Spock's death is an iconic ending. I've never liked that it completely discards the classic science fiction spirit in order to facilitate a simple action movie story; however, the execution is just too good. The ear worm scenes are legitimately unsettling. Above all, Kirk's throughline of the "no-win situation" and his relationship with loss elevates the film greatly. >3. The Final Frontier
Like TMP, recalls the true science fiction spirit of Star Trek as they (literally) journey into the ultimate question. I think this one is misunderstood, but it does suffer from faulty execution; still, it's an adventure into the unknown, and the crew's waning disbelief as they near the ultimate answer is a great commentary on the concept of Star Trek. >4. The Voyage Home
Fun, funny... that's about it, unfortunately. >5. The Search for Spock
Christopher Lloyd saves it from being basicly unwatchable. Such a slog watching a teenage Vulcan scream and holler. David's death scene is well done, actually touches mortality in a more real way than we'd yet scene in Star Trek. >6. The Undiscovered Country
Some redeeming moments but overall just plain goofy, unengaging, rambling, and casting such a grim light on the aging cast, far past their expiration.
Yes it's entirely re-edited. The pacing is much better despite the DC being 7 minutes longer. Also it can't be understated how much the remastered effects change the film for the better

For context, they could've played Khan from Into Darkness to be more like Bashir from DS9, so more cunning and agile instead of the brute force from the original Khan Noonien Singh.
are 1,4 and beyond the only ones that actually feel like a star trek episode turned into a movie? I feel the rest is all dragged down by canonical character drama
sure. quick bump

Let the grown-ups make the posts on this thread.
When have old people ever been right about anything?
all the time, every time. the youngtards don't figure that out until they get old
An old person told me never to trust anyone over 30, and it's the soundest advice I ever heard.
The best Star Trek movie is Master and Commander, but that wasn't the question.
I can't imagine not being a huge Star Trek fan but still able to sit through 13 movies and form opinions on them.

The Motion Picture (director's cut) is one of the greatest science fiction films ever made
Is there any difference in the content of the movie between the original and the director's cut, other than the remastered sound and visual effects?
