    >Season 1
    9/10
    Legitimate 80s Nostalgia Kino Incarnate.
Don't ever let contrarians tell you it isn't good. It's almost perfect. The ending is a bit cliché but then again so is the whole show so whatever.

    >Season 2
    7/10
Noticeable drop in quality. It's pretty clear they never planned for a second Season with the same cast. It's also a bit annoying that so much of the season is still following the same story beats as Season 1. Still though, the Halloween theme is top tier and the mind flayer is the goat antagonist for the series.

    >Season 3
    6/10
The first several episodes are better than Season 2 and when the show is at its best, it rivals Season 1. Unfortunately the last two episodes divebomb the show so far off a cliff until it literally becomes a bad marvel movie.

    >Season 4
    7/10
People are really overeating this Season imo. It never gets as bad as the worst of season 3 but it's still way too self-aware. Also the whole season is a highly apparent retcon forced together just so they can wrap things up in season 5. Episodes are also all way longer than they need to be.

You obviously must be a big fan of the show cause there’s no way season 1 or any season is 9/10

      Anonymous

Pretty much agreed. I’d say the subsequent seasons never get above 6.5 on average, but I rewatched season 1 and yes it is almost perfect. The only real drawback is that Will is somehow the best child actor in the cast and doesn’t really have a role

        >Will is the best of the main 4

    One is pretty good.
Didn't watch the rest, felt like the story was done and that the first couple episodes of season 2 didn't add anything interesting.
Glad I dropped it when I did, because making the main villain a bipedal monster with a near human head was dumb as shit. Should've always been that big storm thingy or just the very nature of another dimension so incredibly hostile to life in our own.

I'm hoping the mind flayer turns on Vecna in season 5, but yeah, agreed

they retconned it so it's just a revenge plot now and the big bad is just using the upside down to extract his revenge, rather than the upside down itself being the threat.

Basically it's Nightmare on Elm Street only instead of Fredsy being trapped inside a burning house he was trapped inside another dimension.

Am I the only person who interpreted Vecna finding the Mind Flayer as an alliance/dark pact a La Warlocks? Vecna doesn’t look like he actually enjoys having all those hentacles up his butt or appear totally in control

s1 was really good, s2 was similar to s1 but more dull, season 3 and 4 are completely different, they're more amalgamations of 80s movies made comfortable for 2022, they are about a vibe of fun and le spook and le cry (for women and 2020 le hero covid meme we are survivors just like u!). its easy to look past the cringe cuz its still a fun hypnotical vibe. that being said i will judge season 1 and 2 then 3 and 4,
    1>>2
2 was too dirivative of 1 but more dull
    4>3
the first half of 3 was better than all of season 4 but overall season 4 had better upside down adventures lore and villians, in season 3 evil billy being possessed made it lame cuz we were suppose to be scared of a husk or be scared of the random thing we know nothing about who is possessing him, basically 4 villian and lore and upaidedown better, season 3 was slightly better banter fun character moments but 4 edges out 3 because it was consistently good, and the fact that they shoved the shitty actors and characters in their own personal hell/pergatory in russia cali nevada, its like we got 4 upside downs season 3 was a rediculous Russian lab under a mall. basically the scooby doo thing should have gone slightly further i think but the question is which character was scooby

But as I clearly stated in the post, this does not usually happen. Especially on Cinemaphile. Why is this season more "relevant" than previous seasons?

for some reason this show is a "guilty pleasure" show because its made for teenage girls.

          Anonymous

          a few reasons
          1. they soft-retconned the lore to be easier to digest and understand. Understanding seasons 2 and 3 is now less necessary.
          2. The splitting the season up into 2 "volumes" helped create artificial hype and keep discussion relevant for longer. For weeks one of the most popular things for zoomers to do has been to make Vecna Tiktoks.

          3. The show successfully ticks all the boxes for creating a hypnotic addiction for NPCs (see pic related). They tried this with season 3 but didn't get the formula quite right. With Srason 4 they upped the """horror""" dosage just enough to make it work for most people (think It Chapter 1)

Basically it's the call of duty of TV where it has effectively found a way to cheat and provide just as much of a soiboi dopamine addiction to keep people hooked without doing anything truely daring (for reference, despite all the teasing, only 1 main character died this season, and they were a new character)

season 3 WAS comfy but essentially became TOO comfy by the end. There was literally a giant spider monster running around town and yet the show seemed content to make a gag out of it. The super forced Trump/Russia Collusion subplot also was cringe.
Episodes 1-5 were fine. But the end of the season really flew too close to the sun

but what about the mind flayer?
    >"it works for me. When it said "you let us in, now you have to let us stay" that was actually me talking through it to you"
But this all started with the Demogorg in Season 1
    >"Haha Wrong Again! This started 3 years before season 1! You see there were actually several psychic kids and they were all telekinetic and I was the first one and you were my favorite so I killed all the rest except for you"
That girl from season 2 also had a number though and her power wasn't telekinesis. Was she the only one that had a different power?
    >"Lol don't talk about her. Just forget about her"
Why don't I remember any of this?
    >"You uh... had amnesia? Yeah let's go with that"
But I remember things from before when your talking about. Like that other girl. I used to play with he-
    >"I said stop talking about her. We're ignoring her now"
The point is I remember things from before when you're talking about
    >"Ah you see you uh... well you only have amnesia for the specific events that are necessary for what I'm talking about right now"

    See how dumb this is?

I’m annoyed that they retconned all of the “special” children to be Eleven clones. Regardless of what you thought of her execution, 008 demonstrated that the powers were more like X men (varied, unique) than like Jedi (everybody uses le force push). They completely abandoned that

even if Season 4, at its best, was on par with season 1 (it isn't) it would still suffer immensely from being the worst edited season in the show by far.
Seriously, was anything at all left on the cutting room floor? Some of these episods are literal hours long and you can't convince me they can't be chopped down to like 65 minutes, if not more. Why do we need so many scenes of characters monologuing for minutes on end? Why do we need so many scenes of character C telling character A that they should get with character B? Why do we need an entire third of the season dedicated to having El get her powers back when we could have had them not be gone in the first place? Why do we need an entire third of the season dedicated to this rediculous Russia arc that wouldn't even need to exist at all if the writers had a fricking spine and could have just kept Hopper dead?
If you can look past all of that, then sure, you do you.

        >Why do we need an entire third of the season dedicated to having El get her powers back when we could have had them not be gone in the first place?
imagine being mad that an arc is resolved.
You clearly never watched LOST back in the day. If you did, you would appreciate season 4 for showing that the series has a plan and a direction instead of leaving us with mystery box bullshit with no resolution. Thats why seasons 2 and 3 were so lame, we get no lore at all, just another nameless villain and a gate elle has to close. Just like season 1.

4 is great, youre just a gay.

          >You clearly never watched LOST back in the day. If you did, you would appreciate season 4 for showing that the series has a plan
I've probably watched LOST all the way through like 5 or 6 times and I've seen certain episodes many more times than that.
The Nina arc doesn't exist so El can get her powers back. It exists so the writers can draft up a bullshit retcon backstory for the new antag that was totally pulling the strings all along haha. It's the exact opposite of "having a plan all along". Since you referenced LOST, this would be like me defending Nikki and Paolo as being planned all along, or Walt growing too fast for the show to account for to the point where they have to ditch him being planned all along.
          >Season 4 is great
it has its moments. It's not "bad". But my point was that it has terrible editing and ad aresult feels more than twice as long as it should, which is kind of a rookie mistake when it comes to stuff like this.
          >you're just a gay
I'll admit I regret not fricking more women before I got engaged, but I'm certainly not a gay.

Yeah the Eleven stuff was torturously slow and boring. It doesn't help that MBB has somehow morphed into the worst actor on the show. Her heart really wasn't in this season

          Anonymous

MBB has the easiest job in the show. All she has to do is act moronic and scream.
By contrast Will's actor might be the most talented of all the younger kids and that's a shame because they have had absolutely no idea what to do with him since season 2.
Keep in mind that he basically wasn't even in Season 1, he was just a plot device.
Meanwhile in Season 3 he was just someone who had a spider sense and did nothing else. Seriously, they must have shown that same shot of him touching the back of his neck like 20 times.
Then Season 4 he's just gay and that's the totality of his character.
Now with season 5 it's back to the spider sense.

1 is leaps and bounds above anything else. How you rank the other three depends on how much you are personally bothered by their flaws:
    >Season 2
An uninspired repeat of Season 1 with an extremely boring subplot that I don't think anybody liked.
    >Season 3
literal capeshit tier scripting and unnecessary anti-Trump messaging for no reason.
    >Season 4
The writers are scrambling to make up new backstories that will allow them to bring the show to a close in the final season even if they contradict preexisting lore. Also, I hope you like pointless monologuing that extends the length of every episode unnecessarily.
