I’ve heard many say that Mr. Freeze should be the villain of the sequel, but what if it also had Ra’s Al Ghul and Solomon Grundy?
Ra’s Al Ghul could be something of a cult leader that is trying to take advantage of Gotham city after the flood, perhaps using the Lazarus Pit to make a name for himself with claims of it rejuvenating people and/or bringing them back to life. Solomon Grundy could be used as a walking example of it (though really he’d be hardly cognizant and mostly kind of a order-following henchman of Ra’s), Mr. Freeze may be attracted to the pit in the hopes it could bring back Nora, and the idea of rejuvenation and/or bringing something back to life could tie in thematically to Gotham’s current state.
As to how things like the Lazarus Pit and Freeze’s technology could fit into those universe: one; the pit could be something of a bluff; Grundy is something of a brain dead individual that was on the verge of death and is kept alive via (mind control?) technology and the green substance (or one like it) that Bruce injected himself with (these things would help explain his zombie-like state) and the pit could be a way of duping the citizens of Gotham; perhaps they are actually poisoned somehow and Ghul’s main goals are far more sinister/malign; and two, in regards to Freeze’s technology; if you look at the technology that Batman has and you think of how it works, just take those mechanics (albeit maybe changing some of them) and apply them to the realm of freezing; Freeze would just need to be as technologically advanced if not a little bit more so than Batman.
yesss we need another Mr freeze and another ras alghul movie, TAKE MY MONEEEEEY
Cool fanfiction, but reeves already confirmed he is adapting Mask of the Phantasm and weaving Hearts of Ice into it. After Falcone is killed, Phantasm is inspired to keep killing mobsters, like how Batman inspired Riddler.
Would be unadulterated kino if true
Can't wait for Reeves' visionary take on Freeze who is a serial killer with a frostbite scar on his face.
Why do you gays think Reeves is using any metahuman rogues like Grundy? He has been clear if he uses Freeze it will be a "grounded" version because The Batman is set in a "realistic" world just like Nolan movies. Reeves himself has stated in a podcast that he only knew Batman through movies and didn't even know Long Halloween was wrote by one of his teachers (Jeph Loeb)
Reeves is such a fricking hack. Nolan admitted he didn't know the comics either, but at least he had the sense to work with a writer who did know the comics. It's clear from The Batman that Reeves doesn't understand any of the characters.
I think Reeves is a good director (Liked his Apes trilogy a lot), but he isn't the "comic expert" Twitter and Letterboxd say he is. He is pretty honest about it. There seems to be a whole brigade of comic fanboys thinking they will see Ivy and Grundy and ManBat and all those villains, or the Justice League, ignoring Reeves himself saying his Batman exists in a "real world" setting over and over again. He has been clear too that Superman and other metahumans don't exist.
Just for clarification he only directed “Dawn” and “War”; “Rise” was directed by Rupert Wyatt.
Also in the main post of this thread I described how Grundy could be done in a “realistic” way.
Well I tried to think of a way Grundy could work in Reeves’ universe, which is what I wrote in the main post of this thread.
(Also about the realism point; this is off topic but I don’t like it when people say “this” or “that” is realistic because what people are really saying is “it’s what’s conventionally accepted”; i.e., “I won’t watch a movie with aliens because it’s unrealistic”, when it’s only unrealistic because they, and society as it believes its institutions, don’t think aliens exist or don’t know they do; how can you say something is unrealistic if you don’t even know it’s not real or possible to begin with? I know the alien example may not be the best but I hope I explained it right/got the sentiment across.)
Gorilla Grodd
That wouldn’t be bad (in general) but he’s a Flash villain.
Also if they were to do a gorilla villain I’d rather see the Ultra-Humanite first.
Batman has a villain called Gorilla Boss, so it would be him, but Reeves isn't going to use any fantastical characters.
I too think Reeves is a good director, but an absolutely abysmal writer. He did the latter two Apes movies (I tought the first one was the best though), but only wrote the third one, which I thought fell off quite a bit compared to the second one. Reeves' writing is extremely heavy handed and unsubtle. And his scripts have plotholes and things that don't make sense. Like in the third Apes movie where the little girl just walks into the heavily fortified human camp without anyone noticing.
Yeah I thought “Rise” was the best too
Thank you
I want Finchermode Egghead.
You best believe Egghead would be a compeling villain in a Fincher movie. Haneke made a horror where an egg breaking escalates the bad things rather quickly.
No Phantasm, no watch
>a batman movie having supernatural elements
kek
In the main post of this thread I described a way in which Grundy could be done without supernatural elements (Ra’s too.)
the idea is moronic and not going to ever happen even with watering down those characters.
Ehh I don’t think my idea is “moronic” at least as it applies to the Reeves universe; I think it’s the only way to do some of these characters (Ra’s and Grundy) in these films
It is very moronic
Like OP said I think it could fit Reeves' universe or could be the only way to make those characters fit, but honestly I think writers should stop trying to make Batman realistic. His lore loses a lot in a "realistic" world.
wtf i thought its cancelled by zaslav
It wasn’t
Could be kino
then this film will also be forgotten a week after its premiere.
You’re getting one of these
>Freeze
>Hush
>Calendar Man
>Court of Owls
>Mad Hatter
>Phantasm
>Hugo Strange
Other villains either have adaptations that still feel too fresh
or are simply too boring to carry the movie
or too fantastical to a point that making them grounded is just stupid and doesn’t work
I like this anon's idea for Manbat
That would be kind of neat, although the story would have to have detective elements (which could be done with just Man Bat) and would also have to focus on Gotham’s progress at least somewhat (would wouldn’t necessarily need a villain but if a villain relates to it I don’t know if Man Bat could; there may need to be two villains.)
When can we get a Lawrence of Arabia style Batman vs Ra's?
Matt reeves mimics a lot of what other better movies have done so I wouldn't be surprised if he does
