Correct. Japan is a nation where pedophilia is normalized. You are an adult man who watches pedophiles in rubber suits slapfighting. You are a pedophile.
?
are you the godzilla 2014 anon? i’m not disagreeing with you i think it’s the superior monsterverse movie because godzilla actually acts/looks like a gigantic radioactive monster… not some silly goofy capeshit hero
I guess if I had to rate them overall it would be Godzilla > PotA. If I had to rate the movies with the only factor being "fun" (because it fails on any other factor), it might be >Skull Island >KotM >Dawn >Rise >GvK >2014 >War
I have my tickets to go see Godzilla this Friday but I'm kind of dreading it. I don't necessarily hate kong but I feel like the last movie was basically a Kong movie and this one seems like a Kong movie also, it's all so exhausting.
at least Godzilla was the main catalyst for the story in that and Mechagodzilla ended up being the main antagonist . This new one Godzilla really does seem to be a side chaaracter
at least Godzilla was the main catalyst for the story in that and Mechagodzilla ended up being the main antagonist . This new one Godzilla really does seem to be a side chaaracter
What does Adam Wingard have against Godzilla? How can you be a fan of giant monsters and yet care so little about Godzilla?
I don't get this take, Godzilla was awesome in GvK. If any director disliked Goji it's Edwards, how the frick do you make a movie called Godzilla and then barely have Godzilla in it?
I just like shlocky action and giant beasts fighting. Plus the craziest funniest shit happens in KoTM. Remember when they literally nuke Atlantis to save Godzilla so he can fight the 3 headed alien dragon whos teamed up with a giant pterodactyl.
Pure kino slop.
It’s really tough. 2014 is definitely the worst but I’m not sure which is best. Sometimes I think skull island but nah. That’s a fun adventure movie in its own right though.
I saw it when it came out and really kind of hated it, and I've rewatched it a few times since and I've warmed up a little to it, but I still wouldn't really say it's 'good'. There's some cool scenes here and there but for the most part it's just really weirdly dull. A movie about Godzilla fighting other monsters should not feel as bland and boring as 2014 does, something went really wrong there.
Edwards is a hack. He's the kind of person who watches Jaws and thinks that it's effective because it blue-balls you on the shark. Missing the point that not seeing the shark is effective because every time someone is out on the water it creates an ever-present feeling of danger.
It's this weird trend in Hollywood latetly. Where they'll make genre films, and make no effort to make them any more intelligent than their source (G14 is still a classic dumb Godzilla story w/terrible dialogue) but thinking because they capture the scope and make it long and laborious to sit through that somehow it becomes sophisticated.
Then you have gays like
Have you seen the original Godzilla?
who act as though the lack of Godzilla was the problem. It's the fact that there's nothing smart or interesting going on when he's not. That we barely get to see him and when we do it's always ultra dark and cuts away too quick. Keep Cranston alive or make Olsen the protagonist trying to get home instead of Aaron Taylor Johnson. Do something so that this movie about giant, radioactive monsters isn't an absolute borefest.
Godzilla Minus One shits in the face of any G14 loving pseud.
I really don't see how 2014 is bland, boring or dull. Slow paced (like 1954) sure, but everything else in it makes up for the uncharismatic human lead which I imagine is what most people actually have a problem with.
54 is tightly paced and has iconic scenes that stay with you. 2014 is the bare minimum. It's an ok movie, not very memorable, and it drags. Just because both it and 54 are serious doesn't mean they have much in common.
1954 isn't particularly slow, especially for a 50s monster movie. But what makes it significantly less dull than 2014 is that there are actual scenes with Godzilla, instead of it cutting away whenever he shows up. Plus the human side is more interesting, the Oxygen Destroyer is kino.
Godzilla 1954 understood that people were coming to see a giant dinosaur frick a city up and actually delivered what people wanted to see.
It’s really tough. 2014 is definitely the worst but I’m not sure which is best. Sometimes I think skull island but nah. That’s a fun adventure movie in its own right though.
# >2014 is definitely the worst, the only one I couldn't even enjoy as a popcorn flick. >
Both Skull Island and 2014 are good, but I like Skull Island's tone and aesthetic more. If it wasn't for Brie/Hiddleston/stereotypical black nerd/CCP investor mandated chinese woman with no narrative purpose it would be an all time classic, a real shame some of the key casting was a big miss. King of the Monsters is a mind-numbing fart, I was so disappointed I stopped going to the cinema and never bothered to watch Godzilla vs Kong.
>”never bothered to watch Godzilla vs Kong”
You really aren’t missing out on anything, shit doesn’t even have good cinematography or pacing, and the human characters are the worst in the series, which is saying something
That's pretty close to how I rate them. I'd be inclined to place GVK above Skull Island for the action and visuals, but Skull would be head and shoulders above for human characters and storyline. The setpieces in GVK were so stupidly enjoyable I'd give that the edge, but the human characters really drag it down.
i respect Skull Island but rating GvK above KotM says alot about the viewer. KotM had some lame ass comedy sure but it also had the best ghidorah and rodan scenes of all time, i liked Mechagodzilla and all but GvK was a bit too cartoony to rate it above
Not that anon, but KoTM and GvK are basically on par for me. They're very similar movies. >GvK was a bit too cartoony
I have no issues with a monster movie being cartoony. If it's not going to be a horror movie like 1954 then it actually should be silly.
The human shit in KOTM is the worst out of all the movies, and I never liked how dark and stormy all the action scenes are. At least in GVK I could see the fights.
i think the human shit was pretty bad but the trip to atlantis/inner earth was akin to a classic human adventure plot from the older godzillas and I felt that watching it, I think the fights looked solid in both I just prefer Ghidorah and Rodan>Mechagodzilla
Them using the toho kaiju instead of making their own original monsters gives it a leg up for me. I just wish they focused on them more and didn't add a bunch of smoke and rain in front of them. GVK is a bit better because Kong is essentially the protagonist and there's cool setpieces like the neon lit Tokyo or when Kong has to jump on all the helicarriers to avoid Godzilla. I will say though that the KOTM soundtrack >>>>> the music for the other Legendary movies.

this place has given me more solid recommendations for music, film, literature and countless other forms of entertainment, Cinemaphile has given me more laughs than anywhere on the internet and its the only place where I can speak my mind and hear others speak their mind with complete anonymity allowing for a total freedom of thought, nah Cinemaphile is a great place and ive been hear for 14 years, people always say it ruins your life or whatever but I have a wife and a lot of plans in my life, this place is just a nice forum to chat with my bros that doesnt make me cringe like reddit
Both 98 and 2014 aren't great as Godzilla adaptations, but I thought 98 was at least an entertaining watch in spite of that. 2014 was blah, they should have had more fun with it.
>Although I give them high marks for originality and some wild ideas
Yeah there is some stuff I like about Shin, I think Shin Godzilla himself is a cool monster and I like his ShodaiGoji-inspired design.
The first half of the movie is pretty good tbh, it's the latter half that really suffers from pacing issues.
as someone who rates KotM at the top I think Shin was the best godzilla movie in the modern era besides it, the atomic breath scene was the best ive ever seen in a godzilla film, and the different stages of godzilla being all organic and disturbed was compelling
Nah, the movie blows. It's a movie about big monsters fricking shit up but I thought the camerawork made the monsters look small and unimpressive. How do you even frick that up?
The human drama is ludicrously melodramatic considering none of the characters are even slightly interesting, and the monster fights are just pure CGI nothingness, with none of the sense of hugeness that made Godzilla 2014 worthwhile.
You say that about KOTM
When GvK and GxK did it 10x worse
?
The human drama is ludicrously melodramatic considering none of the characters are even slightly interesting, and the monster fights are just pure CGI nothingness, with none of the sense of hugeness that made Godzilla 2014 worthwhile.
>with none of the sense of hugeness that made Godzilla 2014 worthwhile.
2014 was not worthwhile, it was a slog. I don't care how huge the knockoff Cloverfield monster was.
King of the Monsters isn't amazing but it's much better than 2014.
No, it's pretty good. It should have tipped you off that it's bait when he said "Almost every MCU movie is better."
The shittiest part of KoTM is a few bad Marvel-esque quips.
There's this Stallone movie called Daylight and it's one of the most "fake" real movies I've ever seen because of how formulaic and predictable it is, to the point where it reminds me of the fictional movies within movies that we're not even meant to take seriously like Jack Slater in Last Action Hero. Anyway my point is that the dialogue in KoTM makes Daylight feel like a real movie.
They definitely did Rodan well, but I wish we got to see more of him now that he's on Godzilla's side. Rodan is best when he's one of Goji's best bros.
Please Legendary buy the Rodan license again.

The best part of KOTM is that they gave all of the monsters at least one moment that was cool. This is the first time Rodan has been menacing and serious in god knows how long.
My biggest gripe with the movie is that Anguirus wasn't in it too so he could have a cool destruction scene.
If any Toho monster needs his image rehabilitated, it's that jobbing frick.
Anonymous
I've come to realize that Anguirus isn't as popular as I thought. He's Godzilla's signature sidekick and first rival but no love.
It has some of the best action in the American movies, but its human characters are the absolute dredges.
There's a scene where someone says "oh my god" and a character says "zilla".
The human characters were fine if you just cut out the Rick and Morty doc and the guy from Silicon Valley. They were the worst offenders and didn't really add anything to the movie anyway.
2014 lacks godzilla on screen time necessary to make it a good godzilla film, the flooding scene is sick af and the final albeit brief fight is cool but it makes up like 10% of the film
KotM>GvK>Kong Skull Island>2014
im all about Kaiju screentime
The issue with 2014 isn't even the screentime, it's how they use the screentime. Even when Godzilla is on screen you can barely see him, the movie goes out of its way to wienerblock you whenever something cool is about to happen.
>that scene where godzilla is squaring up with the other monster from elizabeth olsens perspective and they literally wienerblock you by having a door close in front of the camera before anything can happen
That was the moment I knew that movie couldn't be saved.
Every time Godzilla appeared on screen I went "it's gonna cut away in 2 seconds" and every time I was right. It was honestly funny how bad it got, completely took me out of the movie.
its even worse when the build up the first fight after godzilla gets ashore and then cuts to the kid playing with toys. then it cuts to the next morning and its just jarring storytelling. So they just both fricked off and ran away in different directions?
>godzilla 2014 is bad because it doesn't have the exact same priorities as my rubber suit jap movies
go and le nerd out about this on reddit you cringe homosexuals
I'm sorry but "showing Godzilla" should be a priority no matter what country the movie is made in. Godzilla 1998, King of the Monsters (to an extent, they did overuse the rain), and Godzilla vs Kong had no issue showing their monsters. It's only 2014 that decided to be "subversive" by not showing us the thing we came to see.
>noooo you have to make the movie exactly the way i want it because... you just do okay??!
frick off moron, go make a tier list of your favorite rubber suits or something you stupid autistic piece of shit

You're so mad. You should probably leave the thread if it pisses you off so much.
I'm sure there are movies that you actually enjoy that you could be talking about.
Quality isnt equal to godzilla screentime. But in those cases you better either have a decent enough human story or be building up the other monster(s).
Like Mothra vs Godzilla only alludes to Godzilla for the first half, but she has top billing in that movie and thats the 4th Godzilla and not the start of the first real American godzilla series that is just titled Godzilla
Exactly. Mothra vs Godzilla is my second favorite film in the series, and many of my other favorites are ones where Godzilla is only a player in the plot instead of being the primary focus.
I dislike 2014 because I didn't think it used the monsters well, and the human plot was very boring and barebones in a way that felt like it was made for a movie with more monster action that it actually had.
I dislike 2014 because it wasn't good. I like the other American Godzilla movies, and I like lots of other non-Japanese monster movies. Godzilla 2014 was just a disappointing movie that doesn't deliver what it promises.

The movie has nothing going for it outside of being a Godzilla movie. There's no good dialogue, no good story, no interesting characters, no compelling themes. It's a bog standard formula Godzilla movie sans any entertainment value. It kills its best actor in the first 30 minutes and benches its other 3 good actors for the majority of the run time. It's trash for pseuds.
Edwards is a hack. He's the kind of person who watches Jaws and thinks that it's effective because it blue-balls you on the shark. Missing the point that not seeing the shark is effective because every time someone is out on the water it creates an ever-present feeling of danger.

>projection
Do you have any actual arguments to make?

Do you? All anyone ever says is that he's boring, which isn't an argument. The movie is about how normal people surviving a natural disaster. The focus isn't supposed to be on the characters of the people being all that interesting themselves.

Are you actually this moronic? Obviously the point here is that a character simply being a normal, boring average person is not inherently bad. Namely, this is usually done in the war or disaster genre, where the character tension comes not from the character being "interesting" like in a psychological drama, but from the normality of the character being forced to deal with extra ordinary circumstances. The 2017 Argentine indie horror masterpiece Terrified has two very normal, very boring protagonists. The only interesting thing about them is that one of them is divorced (a common trope). Because the conflict is an external one, the intrigue is created by how the protagonists deal with the exceptional circumstances they find themselves in.
Again, I don't expect you to know any of this because godzilla fans clearly are not used to anything with more depth than two gay chinks in rubber suits fisting each other. But this is literally one of the most fundamental types of storytelling.

He’s literally just a boring character. It’s not that he’s average. It’s that he’s boring. He’s boring to watch and follow. The world is full of interesting people. Isn't this literally what the guy was saying? You seem to have some sort of dislike/hatred for soldiers as characters in general. None of that is an argument for him being a bad character, unless you're saying that inherently by virtue of being a white male soldier he's a bad character.
Anonymous
No I’m saying that he has no character and is basically just a soldier with no personality or intrigue. Being a soldier isn’t the problem. If you’re reading it like that then you’re looking for that. Stop the culture war bs. Not everything is a battle over whites and blacks or the military or wokeness
1 month ago
Anonymous
But you're not making an argument about why that's inherently bad. Most protagonists of war or disaster films aren't particularly interesting because they're supposed to be a vehicle for the audience to experience the exceptional circumstances they find themselves in. It's like complaining about the guy holding the camera in cloverfield being "too boring" or the protagonist in paranormal activity being "too normal"
If it's not about him specifically being a white male soldier then why the frick is this a complaint you only hear about godzilla 2014? It's not like any of the characters in subsequent films are more interesting?
Anonymous
It is kinda weird, I think it's mostly just people mad that they got jebaited into thinking Bryan Cranston was the protagonist and then he gets killed in the opening of the film. There's nothing inherently wrong with his kid, people just were expecting some epic Heisenberg vowing revenge on godzilla shit and they got a normal military guy instead

2014 was the peak of people getting tired of call of duty, gears of war and the "gritty" brown/bloom aesthetic with generic white guy protagonists. Breaking bad had just finished, and it specifically was one of the biggest shows ever because it had an antihero was was very far from being a generic lead.
So then you cast that guy and have him get killed early on and the new protagonist is the personification of the brown/bloom call of duty generic protag. There's nothing actually wrong with the film or the character it's just the cultural context sort of similar to how everyone's tired of capeshit now to the point where even good capeshit will probably get trashed

The average person did not think he was boring. That is a perception you have created in your mind by reading people's comments on Cinemaphile, reddit, twitter, youtube, etc. Commenters on social media make up a tiny minority of actual society. The people weighted towards commenting about 2014 godzilla on social media are highly likely to be nerds with no lives (godzilla fans) who are incapable of empathizing with a normal, fit white male lead who is married to an attractive white woman. It's that simple. This is why you don't see anyone complaining about "Boring characters" in subsequent godzilla verse movies when the characters are autistic children, radical climate terrorists, neckbeard hacktivists, etc.
"He's a white guy in the military" Is not an argument for him being boring or a bad character because again- war movies are an entire genre filled with characters who are almost exclusively this. Everyone in band of brothers is just a normal guy who found themselves part of a war. That doesn't make band of brothers bad. You have no argument. Seethe.

?si=zYR0djN8iBK2Yg8r Looks fun honestly. Glad Mothra is back and looks pretty good. Maybe i'm just easy to please but I've been loving the past 10 years as a G-fan. From the american movies and Japanese ones it's nice to get whatever you want each year.
Yeah I'm definitely gonna watch it, not gonna let doomers dissuade me from watching a movie with the three of the four giant monster icons (only missing Gamera) from a series that I've mostly enjoyed.
For me, it's >1. Godzilla Official Teaser Trailer >2. Godzilla Official Main Trailer >3. Kong: Skull Island Comic-Con Trailer
That's about all that's worth watching. None of the movies are great.
Too many boring, emotion-driven human subplots and distracting cast members, notably Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen. Same issue with Skull Island.
If you're going to do a monster movie, the focus needs to be on the monster. Hire a noname cast and keep the focus on the monster. The humans are the SUPPORTING cast and serve to tell the monster's story, not the other way around.
>Complaining about 2014’s human characters

2014 was the ONLY good godzilla movie that's been made. I'll say it. The human characters in it were fine. People whine about "not enough monster" because the director actually cared about his craft and built anticipation and suspense for each appearance, culminating in the fight scenes. It wasn't a film for slop slurping gays who just want to watch guys in rubber suits have gay anal buttsex in a fake city all covered in oil. It was cinema. And that's why you hated it.

That's what I thought. And yeah, everyone in band of brothers and generation kill are "bad characters" too because to gays like you, characters are only interesting if they're gay, handicapped sexual deviants with twenty sexual illnesses.
It's actually incredibly how rotten your brain is that you see a normal person and get angry that they're not more broken and mentally fricked like you are.

You're a fricking weirdo, I'm not even gonna reply after this.
Does every character need to be a unique special snowflake donutsteel thought? I find it kind of refreshing when characters are just normal people. That's kind of the point of 2014, that the characters are just normal people caught up in what is basically a natural disaster. You honestly prefer the autistic moronic child and her moron scientist mother?
The characters in the other monsterverse movies aren't great either, the discussion has been about if the Toho movies are shit in comparison to 2014, but at least the other monsterverse movies actually have Godzilla in them. 2014 just has a stock soldier character and they tell you there's monsters that the camera won't let you see. Feels like they ran out of budget for the CG.

>Nobody who has ever, ever said this has actually explained what made them bad characters. They're just normal people
They're boring people without anything memorable or interesting about them. Nobody could tell you a thing about any of the characters besides "he's a soldier and they're a family." I want someone interesting if I'm gonna be following them for 2 hours without seeing any monsters. >Jaws also had very little action
Jaws has great characters and more actual and impactful action than 2014. You can't even compare Jaws with Godzilla 2014 kek.

Same… although I liked the Brody family as a whole. It’s sad they never even mentioned them in the sequels. Writing off or killing off all the characters from the first movie is one of the reasons these movies suck now imo.
2014 is the only one with actual vision where the monsters feel like real godlike beings with weight and heft to them. You really feel like a small person in a world with those giant creatures. Everything that came after is slop.
Yeah I'm sorry you can't read, maybe I should add a bunch of gay sweaty fat chinks in rubber suits wrestling with each other to my next post to hold your interest?
It's not about monsters being "big" it's about them having weight and momentum. Compare how Godzilla moved in 2014 to the scene where he's sprinting like a human, swinging his arms and running with Kong in the newest slop trailer. It's embarrassing. Pathetic.
A movie being entertaining >>>> "weight and momentum." >to the scene where he's sprinting like a human
Godzilla is kinda like a human. He's got human-like moves.
See? This is what I'm talking about. Godzilla "fans" just want to see chinks in rubber suits have gay sex. They're the same kind of person who enjoyed the sequel to pacific Rim.
That's honestly the impression I get from people who didn't like 2014. I get the complaint that there wasn't enough godzilla in it... but what we did get was the best godzilla that's ever been seen on screen, period. Pacific Rim has very similar action in terms of giving everything weight and heft to it, it just has a lot more fighting in it.
Complaining that monster movie fans want to see monster effects is like complaining that sitcom fans want to see characters in funny situations. That's what the genre is about. We don't need subversion.

There are only two good monster movies. Pacific Rim, and Godzilla 2014. I'll take quality any time, and the few minutes of godzilla fighting the mutos on screen is infinitely better than literally every single slopfest of chinks in rubber suits combined

FRICKING POWER GAP >GvK
And I'm sure GxK the slop empire will be just above GvK, but that remains to be seen. Wingard would have to shit out something downright unholy for it to be worse than GvK.
I've seen all the leaks and still feel confident that it won't be worse than GvK. GvK is an absolute disgrace, it is one of the worst Godzilla movies of all time and I WILL die on that hill. 60 years of expectations rode on that piece of shit and we didn't even get a full fricking movie in the end. Half the plot was chucked in the trash just to shave a few minutes off the runtime and keep brainless normalgay animals from actually having to watch a movie for once.
Nothing makes me happier than watching zillagays who shat on 2014 because "not enough fighting" get the exact slop they wished for shoveled down their throats
Did you watch the TV series?? Hope you enjoy your godzilla cinematic universe! It will never end! Slop forever, and you'll never stop watching!
See? zillagays will always keep shovelling the slop down their throats. Marvelgays at least had the dignity to stop watching their own slop for the most part. Zillagays? Nope, they line up at the trough and ask for seconds.
The Monsterverse movies are better than MCU shit. And Marvelgays still watch that shit, only the latest Brie one bombed. Even Ant Man ended up making money, Marvelgays love garbage.

>GvK is an absolute disgrace, it is one of the worst Godzilla movies of all time and I WILL die on that hill.
I agree. I remember I left the theatre completely fricking stumped. I haven’t rewatched it but I can’t think of a single redeemable scene in that entire slopfest. However…I don’t know how they managed to make an even worse movie…but GxK is 100x worse, guaranteed.

I wouldn't go even remotely that far but it absolutely is the most numerously flawed monsterverse film.
It wasn't that bad. Basically the same as King of the Monsters. Lower tier Godzilla movies but watchable.

>2014
6/10, phenomenal framing and presentation of kaiju, plot and drama lose a lot of steam when Cranston's character kicks the bucket. >KSI
7.5/10, great understading of what to do with a monster movie, understands how to use human characters, works well as a cinematic universe entry too. >KotM
5/10, the love for the Toho monsters is obvious, but so is the incompetence of the director at actual direction, making it an incredibly tedious and frustrating experience. >GvK
5/10, the non monster parts are mostly unwatchable, the monster parts look like a generic video game, the plot is fricking dumb, but not dumb enough like Final Wars to become special, it's just awful dumb.
So you haven't even watched the Millennium era? You're missing out on some of the best Goji movies. >godzilla against mechagodzilla >godzilla, mothra, king ghidorah: giant monsters all-out attack >godzilla 2000: millennium >godzilla: final wars
Ape lover. Wingard doesn't give a crap about Godzilla. He wasted what was already established for him and turned Godzilla into a one note angry monster lacking any nuance. Oh, wait. He showed he's in love with Mothra or something big fricking deal. This won't appease most people.
1. KotM - It felt like a modernization of the early 60s Showa films in the best way. Big fan of the cinematography, music and action here. One of my favorite Godzilla films.
2. Skull Island - Great reimagining of a character and his setting. The choice to set it in the Vietnam era made for a very unique Kong film and the cast was quite good.
3. 2014 - Did what it needed to do in terms of being the second attempt at an American remake. It’s let down by its sub-par main character. A good movie on first watch, but not as rewatchable as the two above it.
4. Godzilla vs. Kong - Terrible. Underbaked and rushed film which doesn’t properly develop any of its ideas. The fact that the whole plot would have been solved had Kong not gotten involved really undercuts the narrative. Serizawa’s son being underutilized is a big disappointment. He should have been the main villain if they were going to go that route. Probably the most disappointed I’ve been in a Godzilla film.
>It felt like a modernization of the early 60s Showa films in the best way.

lol.lmao even. 84/85 was like a practice movie before actually launching Heisei. It's worth watching once for the experience but there's zero reason to ever rewatch it.
Which is better, these shitty Godzilla movies or the shitty Planet of the Apes movies? They seem on the same level in terms of schlock.
they only turned to shit after they introduced that bullshit hollow earth subplot
Black person it was there from the beginning if you were paying attention.
no it wasn’t rabbi
So the second and third movie? 2014 was the worst one, so it definitely didn't "turn to shit" after that. Skull Island was a significant improvement.

I'm being sarcastic anon
GvK is obviously better than 2014. 2014 is one of the worst Godzilla movies.
The five minutes in this youtube clip from 2014 are better and more worth watching than the entirety of all other godzilla films combined
it's science fiction. It's the most bottom of the barrel shit out there next to Romantic Comedies. But in any case I prefer Planet of the Apes
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was genuinely great.
I think the nu apes movies are actually pretty good. Some of the acting is hamfisted but it works. They tie into the original film quite well
Reboot Planet of the Apes is actually kino. Rise and War are fantastic
I guess if I had to rate them overall it would be Godzilla > PotA. If I had to rate the movies with the only factor being "fun" (because it fails on any other factor), it might be
>Skull Island
>KotM
>Dawn
>Rise
>GvK
>2014
>War
>dawn above rise and war
My man
New planet of the apes movies are great
Planet of the Apes series is legit kino
I have my tickets to go see Godzilla this Friday but I'm kind of dreading it. I don't necessarily hate kong but I feel like the last movie was basically a Kong movie and this one seems like a Kong movie also, it's all so exhausting.
at least Godzilla was the main catalyst for the story in that and Mechagodzilla ended up being the main antagonist . This new one Godzilla really does seem to be a side chaaracter
Godzilla 2014 had the coolest godzilla and basically, you're a moron and you probably enjoy the current direction of these movies.
>If any director disliked Goji it's Edwards
Strange that he made the best and closest one to the 54 original.
2014 is nothing like 1954.
>KOTM
>GvK
>Skull Island
>2014
I just like shlocky action and giant beasts fighting. Plus the craziest funniest shit happens in KoTM. Remember when they literally nuke Atlantis to save Godzilla so he can fight the 3 headed alien dragon whos teamed up with a giant pterodactyl.
Pure kino slop.
>kino
>slop
pick one
it's slopkino
its no less slop than any of the old godzilla movies (short of the original or biollante maybe), thus i wouldnt use the term
It’s really tough. 2014 is definitely the worst but I’m not sure which is best. Sometimes I think skull island but nah. That’s a fun adventure movie in its own right though.
>2014 is definitely the worst
Agreed. In trying to take it seriously, Gareth Edwards made the most ridiculous movie in the series. It's a very boring take on the material.
Have you seen the original Godzilla?
Are you implying Godzilla 1954 is boring?
Here's the one bit of 2014 worth watching.
?t=216
Edwards is a hack. He's the kind of person who watches Jaws and thinks that it's effective because it blue-balls you on the shark. Missing the point that not seeing the shark is effective because every time someone is out on the water it creates an ever-present feeling of danger.
It's this weird trend in Hollywood latetly. Where they'll make genre films, and make no effort to make them any more intelligent than their source (G14 is still a classic dumb Godzilla story w/terrible dialogue) but thinking because they capture the scope and make it long and laborious to sit through that somehow it becomes sophisticated.
Then you have gays like
who act as though the lack of Godzilla was the problem.
2014 is definitely the worst, the only one I couldn't even enjoy as a popcorn flick.
NTA but Godzilla 1954 is a genuine 10/10 kino.
>54 is tightly paced and has iconic scenes that stay with you. 2014 is the bare minimum.
Even 1984 Godzilla is more fun. 2014 is just the pits.
1984 is a really cool fricking movie and I will die on that hill
it's one of my faves
1954 isn't particularly slow, especially for a 50s monster movie. But what makes it significantly less dull than 2014 is that there are actual scenes with Godzilla, instead of it cutting away whenever he shows up. Plus the human side is more interesting, the Oxygen Destroyer is kino.
Godzilla 1954 understood that people were coming to see a giant dinosaur frick a city up and actually delivered what people wanted to see.

Objectively correct take.
>’m not sure which is best. Sometimes I think skull island but nah
It absolutely has the least flaws.
1. Skull Island
2. GVK
3. KOTM
4. 2014
I haven't seen the new one but judging by the trailer it'll be below KOTM.
>1. Skull Island
>2. GVK
>3. KOTM
>4. 2014

Good list. I'd definitely Tristar Godzilla above 2014 Legendary. Maybe above KOTM too, but maybe that's just nostalgia talking.
I give it bonus points for having a somewhat more functional human storyline and for doing a lot of physical miniatures and modelwork.
Both 98 and 2014 aren't great as Godzilla adaptations, but I thought 98 was at least an entertaining watch in spite of that. 2014 was blah, they should have had more fun with it.
The only good one is 2014. The rest are goyslop
ctrf+f: no shin gojira
Cinemaphile is really full of slopchuggers
Shin was okay but it didn't grab me, and it needed better pacing and CGI. Worth watching but nowhere near my top favorites.
>Shin was okay but it didn't grab me, and it needed better pacing and CGI.
Shin was like the Japanese saw 2014 and decided to show the Americans how making a boring Godzilla is done.
Although I give them high marks for originality and some wild ideas. Also has a better human angle then Garethslop.
Thread is about Amerislop, not Nippon Kino. They can coexist.

I'm probably going to watch the new one, but man is going to feel quaint after Minus One.
>man is going to feel quaint after Minus One.
Goes without saying.
KOTM is one of the most worthless pieces of shit I've ever seen. Almost every MCU movie is better.
Why? I haven’t watch it yet. Is it really that bad?
I felt every aspect of it was catastrophically mishandled. I might have been in a mood or something though idk
Nah, the movie blows. It's a movie about big monsters fricking shit up but I thought the camerawork made the monsters look small and unimpressive. How do you even frick that up?
There's no sense of scale. It feels like two normal sized animals fighting in a scale model of a city. Maybe it's because they move too fast idk
Shut the frick up pleb, no one cares
I'm sorry I insulted your favorite slop.
It's not. It's arguably the best of the Legendary Godzilla movies.
it has the best ghidorah and rodan scenes of all time
They definitely did Rodan well, but I wish we got to see more of him now that he's on Godzilla's side. Rodan is best when he's one of Goji's best bros.
Please Legendary buy the Rodan license again.

Where do you think you are?
The best part of KOTM is that they gave all of the monsters at least one moment that was cool. This is the first time Rodan has been menacing and serious in god knows how long.
The Rodan sequence is my favorite in the whole film.
It's the perfect cinematic kaiju destruction scene. Rodan was my favorite monster as a kid so I was happy he got such a great scene and bongo theme.
My biggest gripe with the movie is that Anguirus wasn't in it too so he could have a cool destruction scene.
If any Toho monster needs his image rehabilitated, it's that jobbing frick.
I've come to realize that Anguirus isn't as popular as I thought. He's Godzilla's signature sidekick and first rival but no love.
>the buildings destroyed by the gust of wind below Rodan's wingspread
It has some of the best action in the American movies, but its human characters are the absolute dredges.
There's a scene where someone says "oh my god" and a character says "zilla".
The human characters were fine if you just cut out the Rick and Morty doc and the guy from Silicon Valley. They were the worst offenders and didn't really add anything to the movie anyway.
lol someone who shits on KotM would say they like Marvel movies too, completely cringe
I remember watching that as a casual and went "WTF" when they skipped over it.
its even worse when the build up the first fight after godzilla gets ashore and then cuts to the kid playing with toys. then it cuts to the next morning and its just jarring storytelling.
Explain why barely having Godzilla in a movie named "Godzilla" is actually le good.
>go make a tier list of your favorite rubber suits
Why even enter a Godzilla thread if you hate it so much? It's one thing when homosexuals enter just to complain about the Monsterverse, but it's even more moronic for you to come in here and cry about the rest of the franchise.
you're a cringe homosexual who only cares about soifacing when his favorite rubber suit monster gets le epic CGI fanservice, just have a nice day for the love of christ
You're so mad. You should probably leave the thread if it pisses you off so much.
I'm sure there are movies that you actually enjoy that you could be talking about.
>go make a tier list of your favorite rubber suits
Maybe I will a little later.
I dislike 2014 because I didn't think it used the monsters well, and the human plot was very boring and barebones in a way that felt like it was made for a movie with more monster action that it actually had.
>i dislike 2014 because it's not the same thing as low-budget japanese rubber suit movies
literal mental illness
I dislike 2014 because it wasn't good. I like the other American Godzilla movies, and I like lots of other non-Japanese monster movies. Godzilla 2014 was just a disappointing movie that doesn't deliver what it promises.
>that doesn't deliver what it promises
it didn't promise anything, you just have an autistic rubber suit fanboy nerd wishlist and you didnt get what you wanted. this thread is filled with people who are like the "how do they make it so epic every time" star wars trailer guy but for godzilla, its sickening
>it didn't promise anything
It promised Godzilla. That's the only word in the title. It didn't do a good job at delivering Godzilla, or any monsters, to the audience. The human side was also bad, so you can't overlook the lack of monsters.
>its sickening
You're getting mad that you're seeing Godzilla fans in a thread about Godzilla. You could leave at any time and your problem would be solved.
>It didn't do a good job at delivering Godzilla, or any monsters, to the audience
wrong, it's the only giant monster movie ever made where the monsters actually feel giant, thus its the best one
>You're getting mad that you're seeing Godzilla fans in a thread about Godzilla
no i'm seeing gay redditor nerds jack eachother off, you should all be shot in the head
you're trying way too hard to fit in
go suck eachothers dicks on discord, you make normal people want to vomit
Cope and seethe.
>it's the only giant monster movie ever made where the monsters actually feel giant
pacific rim? kotm (the opening scene of rodan, and ghidorah?) 2023? shin? moron?
moronic post, not bothering reading the whole thing.
Leave the thread.
It's trash for pseuds.
>muh reddit cranston died too soon
Nice job, you gave literally the highest upvoted reddit opinion you'd see in any thread about the film. Nice! Good one!
>you can't be correct because uhhh reddit
Correct. You hate 2014's main character because he's a young married white man in the military. That's unacceptable as a protagonist for redditors these days. You'd have been much happier with the protagonist as a disabled lesbian Black woman
>projection
Do you have any actual arguments to make?
Do you? All anyone ever says is that he's boring, which isn't an argument. The movie is about how normal people surviving a natural disaster. The focus isn't supposed to be on the characters of the people being all that interesting themselves.
The problem is when nothing else in the movie is interesting either.
He’s boring. You’re the one bringing up being a married white man in the military
Oh no, the characters in band of brothers were boring! None of them were gay or transexual or black!
We’re not talking about band of brothers we’re talking about godzilla
I’m not asking for a guy with a special interest in trains or a mad scientist, just an interesting lead. Clearly the intrigue you’re talking about wasn’t created if everybody complains
He feels like the protagonist of an Xbox 360 era FPS vidya campaign.
Yeah he’s literally just soldier man
Isn't this literally what the guy was saying? You seem to have some sort of dislike/hatred for soldiers as characters in general. None of that is an argument for him being a bad character, unless you're saying that inherently by virtue of being a white male soldier he's a bad character.
No I’m saying that he has no character and is basically just a soldier with no personality or intrigue. Being a soldier isn’t the problem. If you’re reading it like that then you’re looking for that. Stop the culture war bs. Not everything is a battle over whites and blacks or the military or wokeness
Seethe.
My dad thought he was boring. He’s the arbiter of quality.
Yeah well my dad thought the movie was great and that he was an awesome protagonist. What now, homosexual?
nobody is going to read all this seethe and cope
I automatically assume any novel posted here is just some AI shit and skip it. If you can't get your point across in a couple of sentences your point is not worth considering.
>devolves into gay fantasies again
Mental issues.
?si=zYR0djN8iBK2Yg8r Looks fun honestly. Glad Mothra is back and looks pretty good. Maybe i'm just easy to please but I've been loving the past 10 years as a G-fan. From the american movies and Japanese ones it's nice to get whatever you want each year.
even if the new one looks cheesy we have certainly been eating good, its like marvel's peak but for godzilla movies
Yeah I'm definitely gonna watch it, not gonna let doomers dissuade me from watching a movie with the three of the four giant monster icons (only missing Gamera) from a series that I've mostly enjoyed.
My biggest wish is Gamera somehow getting a chance to shine too. Imo the gamera trilogy outshined the heisei era godzilla films.
Hopefully Gamera returns to film someday.
You actually watch this crap?
yes
Of course.
No I just pretend to on Cinemaphile
For me, it's
>1. Godzilla Official Teaser Trailer
>2. Godzilla Official Main Trailer
>3. Kong: Skull Island Comic-Con Trailer
That's about all that's worth watching. None of the movies are great.
KOTM is the worst movie I've ever bought a ticket to see
You've had pretty good luck then, Satan.
Frick you guys 2014 is kino
Too many boring, emotion-driven human subplots and distracting cast members, notably Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen. Same issue with Skull Island.
If you're going to do a monster movie, the focus needs to be on the monster. Hire a noname cast and keep the focus on the monster. The humans are the SUPPORTING cast and serve to tell the monster's story, not the other way around.
>Complaining about 2014’s human characters
They’re actually likeable compared to MBB and the new diversity hire special needs child in the newer ones, though.
I didn't mind MBB or the deaf girl in GVK. The fat Maori quip machine was pretty awful though.
What's easier to keep down; liquid shit or solid shit?
>Dad and his son/son's wife
vs
>random garbled collection of women/children/moronic basedmen
2014 was the ONLY good godzilla movie that's been made. I'll say it. The human characters in it were fine. People whine about "not enough monster" because the director actually cared about his craft and built anticipation and suspense for each appearance, culminating in the fight scenes. It wasn't a film for slop slurping gays who just want to watch guys in rubber suits have gay anal buttsex in a fake city all covered in oil. It was cinema. And that's why you hated it.
>2014 was the ONLY good godzilla movie that's been made
You genuinely have to be moronic to have this opinion.
I'm sorry you're mad that a western white visionary took your moronic sweaty gay chinks in rubber bondage suits jacking off to diaper fetish porn and made it into cinema. Frankly he shouldn't have made it a godzilla movie as you freaks are basically furries and don't deserve anything good.
But yes, there are no good godzilla movies aside from 2014. 2014 is a cinematic masterpiece- just the Halo jump sequence alone earns it a place in the highest halls of cinematic excellence.
2014 was a bad movie, not just a bad Godzilla movie. If that's a masterpiece to you then you've seen less than 100 movies and you were born in the 2000s.
Oh yeah, it's bad because, uh...
>muh epic meme reddit bryan cranberry died he should have been the main character!! :~~*
Nice opinion, you and everyone else in the reddit thread
>Not enough godzilla
Cry about it. The movie is objectively good with compelling characters and is filmed in such a way that the monsters actually feel massive and threatening. Godzilla causing a tsunami by just arriving. It's incredible, arresting cinema.
>bad characters
>no action
>mediocre cinematography
There was nothing good or memorable about it. Pretty sure I'm just being baited, judging by your other replies.
>bad characters
Yeah, and all the characters in band of brothers were also "bad characters" to you because anything that isn't some sort of gay in a rubber suit is a "bad character" to you. Hint: Nobody who has ever, ever said this has actually explained what made them bad characters. They're just normal people. It's fine to have a movie about normal people. I'm sorry a normal white family made you seethe.
>no action
And? Jaws also had very little action. Ever heard of building suspense? Didn't think so, you have ADHD clearly and just watch sweaty chinks in rubber fursuits have sex all day long
>mediocre cinematography
You watch sweaty chinks have sex in fursuits, you cannot judge cinema
>Nobody who has ever, ever said this has actually explained what made them bad characters. They're just normal people
They're boring people without anything memorable or interesting about them. Nobody could tell you a thing about any of the characters besides "he's a soldier and they're a family." I want someone interesting if I'm gonna be following them for 2 hours without seeing any monsters.
>Jaws also had very little action
Jaws has great characters and more actual and impactful action than 2014. You can't even compare Jaws with Godzilla 2014 kek.
By the way stop posting your gay fantasies. It's gross.

I’M A PAID LEGENDARY SHILL SAMEgayGING.
>They're boring people
That's what I thought. And yeah, everyone in band of brothers and generation kill are "bad characters" too because to gays like you, characters are only interesting if they're gay, handicapped sexual deviants with twenty sexual illnesses.
It's actually incredibly how rotten your brain is that you see a normal person and get angry that they're not more broken and mentally fricked like you are.
>someone wants interesting characters
>you immediately think of homosexuals and stds
You're a fricking weirdo, I'm not even gonna reply after this.
Does every character need to be a unique special snowflake donutsteel thought? I find it kind of refreshing when characters are just normal people. That's kind of the point of 2014, that the characters are just normal people caught up in what is basically a natural disaster. You honestly prefer the autistic moronic child and her moron scientist mother?

>samegay proves hes a samegay and proves hes a samegay and calls others samegay calls others samegay
Even though her character was nothing I really wanted Elizabeth Olsen to return simply because she's Elizabeth Olsen.
Same… although I liked the Brody family as a whole. It’s sad they never even mentioned them in the sequels. Writing off or killing off all the characters from the first movie is one of the reasons these movies suck now imo.

that came after it
2014 is the only one with actual vision where the monsters feel like real godlike beings with weight and heft to them. You really feel like a small person in a world with those giant creatures. Everything that came after is slop.
>b-but muh dark lighting! muh not enough monsters
Go watch your slop
>You really feel like a small person in a world with those giant creatures
The only thing 2014gays care about is "the monsters were big."
Pathetic.
A movie being entertaining >>>> "weight and momentum."
>to the scene where he's sprinting like a human
You're not a fan of monster movies, you're a fan of chinks in rubber fursuits having sex.
There are only two good monster movies. Pacific Rim, and Godzilla 2014. I'll take quality any time, and the few minutes of godzilla fighting the mutos on screen is infinitely better than literally every single slopfest of chinks in rubber suits combined
>the only good movies are from modern hollywood
Jesus Christ. Please stop posting.
I'm sorry, are you unable to read in your chink rubber fursuit?
Those are the only good MONSTER movies. Not the only good MOVIES

And I'm sure GxK the slop empire will be just above GvK, but that remains to be seen. Wingard would have to shit out something downright unholy for it to be worse than GvK.
>hasn’t seen the leaks
homie it’s worse than GvK
It wasn't that bad. Basically the same as King of the Monsters. Lower tier Godzilla movies but watchable.
See? zillagays will always keep shovelling the slop down their throats.
Kek no, Marvel is finished. Eat up zillagay! Your serving of Black folk and females is in the trough!
There's a Marvel movie coming out this year. Doesn't seem finished.
Yeah because the IP is owned by disney. Mostly they just make tv slop that nobody watches
Godzilla just got it's first TV season! Congrats, eat up! I bet you watched the entire season of gay Black folk for the one appearance of godzilla at the end!
What with these devianart trash? It was terrible but none of this was in GvK, you don't have to make shit up just to hate on it.
>GvK
Top two are the villains of GxK. Bottom two are just concept art, yes. But apparently they want to bring space godzilla in as the next villain.
the monster designs from gxk are deviantart tier bad anon
>GvK is an absolute disgrace, it is one of the worst Godzilla movies of all time
I wouldn't go even remotely that far but it absolutely is the most numerously flawed monsterverse film.

Both MBB & Godzilla himself are far more likable in Kotm.

We can't allow Wingard to get his third movie. Get someone who actually cares about Godzilla.
I hope he gets a third movie, I like Wingard. I hope Dan Stevens comes back too.
Ape lover. Wingard doesn't give a crap about Godzilla. He wasted what was already established for him and turned Godzilla into a one note angry monster lacking any nuance. Oh, wait. He showed he's in love with Mothra or something big fricking deal. This won't appease most people.

2014 is the best. I like Godzilla when he's serious, such as 1954, Shin Godzilla and Minus One. 2014 also feels like a horror film at times.
>2014 also feels like a horror film at times.
I definitely was afraid I was going to be bored to death watching it.
Don't really agree with this.
> Big fan of the cinematography, music and action here. One of my favorite Godzilla films.
Fricking Based Tho.
Pretty much my ranking although I didn't find GvK terrible, just not as good as the rest.
SKULL ISLAND>2014>KOTM>GVK
Do you need to post this every thread?
Angry hands typed all that.
>GvK flopped
huh?
>tfw we’ll never get Jodorowsky’s GvK
why live?
Not that anon, and why do you keep claiming that it’s one anon posting this image every thread when it is clearly multiple of us? Cope, seethe, and dilate Legendaryshill homosexual, I’m the original poster of that post in the pic and I wrote it just to troll some Millie Bobbie Brown waifu poster that was shitting up my Comfy Minus One Countdown threads, but I’m glad you’re eternally buttmad about it.
Blessed trips of truth, frick BurgerZilla.
Based.
Same seething reply every time.
Godzilla vs Scylla and Godzilla vs Tiamat(I don't know how it is spelt)

>1964 Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster
Even with its incoherent time travel effects GvsKG is far less stupid than this overrated as frick film.
Horrible taste.
Get fricked for not having 85 on there.
>boring as frick pod fight
>godzilla literally takes a nap halfway through the fight resting on a comfy building
lol.lmao even. 84/85 was like a practice movie before actually launching Heisei. It's worth watching once for the experience but there's zero reason to ever rewatch it.
I like Godzilla vs King Ghidorah a lot more than Mechagodzilla 2 but sure
1. -1
just posting to say 2014 is one of the top 3 Godzilla films and the other monsterverse movies are all bottom 10
I haven't watched a monster movie since King Kong 2005
None of them. Only exceeded in slop by Star Wars and Marvel.
Post release threads always suck. Normies need to get bored and frick off before we can talk in peace.
1. GvK
2. Skull Island
3.KotM
4. 2014
