Read the Silmarillion again and then explain. I already read it twice. It's. just a incoherent and unfinished mess.

what is incoherent about it? it's basically a history of the elves

        Anonymous

It's a bunch of chaotic notes with 500000000 names glued together to make money from it. I mean there's a whole lot of potential in it, but it was never finished. Not even partially.

the stories made sense to me. are you sure you're not thinking of unifinshed tales.

            Anonymous

No. I haven't read unfinished tales. It just felt unfinished. I mean one could've written like 10 books out of this.

It’s basically the Old Testament absent the interesting bits
            >Farathorn begat Garathorn who begat Nadriel who begat Eldriel
            Tldr: Tolkien was a hack

Basically. But the hack is his son who thought who could publish a book out of a couple of notes for some easy money.

Only the first couple of stories are about the creation of the world, and the genealogies are usually to give context to characters that show up later.

I'm sorry you are so butthurt about judaism and christianity that you can not read 10 pages of a fictional creation story and 6 lines of genealogy.

He was a Christian and took his inspiration from that. I don’t understand why this is contentious

I never said it was. The first bit is similar to the bible in that it's a creation story. After that it's stories about elves.

            - ...
I thought there were some pretty interesting parts in it. Unfortunately not finished. Let's forget all of the Eru and the Music stuff, this was a little too much. I think drugs were involved here...

I don't know. It's a bunch of short stories based on scattered notes where someone thought they might belong together. Maybe I give it another try. It's been a couple of years since I read it.

I was unfair to you and just being Saucy because that's the fourchan way. It's just not your thing and that's okay. It's barely my thing, but there are a couple of stories I really really like.

That's fine. I've been here long enough to not take things personal :DDDD
As already mentioned, I guess my "problem" with it is just that J. R. R. didn't finish it and it therefore doesn't have the depth and qualify LOTR has. So much "wasted" potential. I want w book/movie about Feonar...

It's more dry and boring than anything. Outside of the creation stuff if you don't have a vivid imagination to fill in the gaps you're gonna have a bad time.

There is more Fantasy other than Lotr to read.

Read Book of the new sun if you want strange edgy kino
Read Discworld of you want to have comical parody of Fantasy tropes while still having rich worldbuildning
Read The Wheel of Time if you really, really want to fall alseep

2nding New Sun. Very soulful, rereadable. Don't pay much mind to the unreliable narrator hype that built up around it, it's a nothingburger and will muddy your pleasure.
