The first two seasons at least. They brought in some experts to "improve" the show even though it was all-ready awesome and they those experts sabotaged the show.
I feel like I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like Ghostbusters. It's not funny and it's not entertaining. I've heard the explanation that it's a "dry comedy", but they don't seem to be into it at all. Not only are the Ghostbusters, in universe, just doing it for the paycheck, I feel like the actors, themselves, don't give a damn either. You're basically a stupid fricker who will lap up anything with good visual effects (ghosts, laser beams, and giant marshmallow men)
I wouldn't blame anyone for not liking Ghostbusters, especially if they didn't grow up with it. You're right it's not funny, but I do think it's charming and entertaining. (Haven't watched any of the recent movies though)
The recent movies are not charming or entertaining. You can feel the machinations of the marketing team and executives behind everything. “We need snd asian, and a black girl, and a lesbian romance to make this more acceptable to the youths. Oh and make sure to work in references to the original movie so the die hard fans stick around.” They’re VERY cynical productions.
>Not only are the Ghostbusters, in universe, just doing it for the paycheck
That is kind of the joke behind the premise. They basically carry themselves like schlubby bug exterminators, with this being juxtaposed against the whole "they take care of supernatural shit" element. >I feel like the actors, themselves, don't give a damn either
In Bill Murray's case you're right, but Aykroyd and Ramis wrote the movie and essentially viewed the project as their baby. I don't think anyone really gave that much of a shit when making the sequel, though.
I think dan akroyd genuinelly loves it because the dudes a serious /x/ guy IRL. Hell the best part of the recent movie was that arkroyd wasnt really playing a character but rather basically playing himself in it. And yes i saw the lesbian ghost ghosbusters movie, it wasnt as bad as people make it out to be but slimer shouldve been in it more. Also i liked how they used an actual puppet for him this time
Janine was great. How many of you will admit to rubbing one out to her?
I did lmfao annie potts is so hot
Ghostbusters was an absolutely baffling cultural phenomenon. The only thing that surpasses it in longevity, in my mind, is The Flintstones.
From 1983 until, like, 2007 (not sure, I used to know) there was something on a shelf somewhere with the Ghostbusters logo on it, and it wasn't frickin' comic books or DVDs, I mean like, toothpaste and cereal. Koolaid.
There was just this strange longevity to what was ostensibly a comedy where Dan Aykroyd gets a blowjob from a ghost.
Its very strange i only saw the movie when i was like 13 i never drank ecto cooler tho i heard it was available like in the early 2000s so i wouldve lived with it being available
>I think dan akroyd genuinelly loves it because the dudes a serious /x/ guy IRL. My philosophy has always been that the 2016 movie was not that bad, and would have done okay enough. Not a cultural phenomenon but not a total bomb either, it just would have been another movie that came and went and grabbed some fans...if Pascal and Feig just shut the frick up. A producer and director do not need to engage fricking random nobodies online. Let the movie speak for itself and shut the frick up. Their antics which amounted to millionaires picking on high schoolers and nobodies in the midwest made the whole thing look awful.
This latest movie was more enjoyable then 2016 which was mostly just really obnoxious. Call my a misogynist but i fricking hate melissa mccarthy. And i agree paul gayie was such a fricking prick, the ghostbusters 2016 debacle in my opinion started all the culture war shit we see now
>A producer and director do not need to engage fricking random nobodies online.
Disagree. We need the staff making media to be outspoken so that we know what their agendas are so we can help them fail. Love social media it allows us to see who deserves our time and cash.
I feel like I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like Ghostbusters. It's not funny and it's not entertaining. I've heard the explanation that it's a "dry comedy", but they don't seem to be into it at all. >Not only are the Ghostbusters, in universe, just doing it for the paycheck
Just because they're glorified jannies doesn't mean they have to do it for free
And that's part of the appeal. They had their own tabletop RPG where the premise was that the Ghostbusters as a service became a global franchise, and you just got hired at a local business. It makes being a wagie and tradecel cool, same reason why kids wish they went to Hogwarts instead of normal school
>I feel like I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like Ghostbusters.
Nah you're not alone. And thing about Ghostbusters is that it's NEVER been that big of a franchise to the point you can bring it back repeatedly like Ninja Turtles. I honestly gave the first two movies a chance since supposedly they were the best things. And while the first movie was tolerable the second one was awful.
And I don't remember the name of the character Bill Murray played but he was an butthole. Horrible character, he's the type of man who WOULD let his friends get killed because he prefers to chase single mother used up shitty pussy. I hated him completely. The other characters? The man with the ice cream hair whose name I forgot? He had no personality outside of being the almost robotic autist. He really felt inhuman I almost expected a plot twist that he was a ghost or an undead because I didn't understand why the other characters were friends with such a robotic unemotional man. Still more likable than Murray's character.
And Dan Aykroid's character is meant to be the heart of the group but I thought he was just bland.
And since the point of the franchise is that it's a bunch of middle aged scientists the series holds no allure. You're not going to get any cool characters. It's an extremely niche appeal. So much so that in the sequel movie the intro of the movie had the Ghostbusters being insulted and considered lamer than He man. I'm not joking that's how Ghostbusters 2 begins, with the main characters being insulted and being considered lamer than He Man.
Anyway this franchise has always been meh collectively. And I don't see why they keep trying to revive it so often. I hope the recent failure of the recent movie puts this series on ice permanently. It's not good enough to deserve to keep going.
>he's the type of man who WOULD let his friends get killed because he prefers to chase single mother used up shitty pussy
When did he ever put his friends in danger over that?
Him being a sleaze-ball is part of the shtick because, like the others, he ends up being a hero who faces down a monster to save the city.
Another clue is the female characters are attractive looking.
How do you know a cartoon is made in the USA? The female characters are disgusting to look at. Fricking loser Americans and their shitty Feminism inclusivity bullshit. And don't give me that Chel from El Dorado bullshit. That's a glitch in the system. By and large Americans design the ugliest female characters ever and I'm tired of idiots spamming off model art of them pretending ugly b***hes are hot.

I would say the Ghostbusters hype died around 1990, shorty after the second movie. The cartoon ended around the same time. But I cannot remember seeing any ghostbusters related merch after 90-91. Everything was very much Mario and TMNT at that time.
Why do autists love mario so much? I get TMNT because mutants and monsters and i get ghostbusters because ghosts and janines jersey accent and breasts but what the actual frick does mario have going for it?
Mario stuff was really mainstream huge in 89-90. It had the same thing going as Ghostbuters at the time, tons of related merch. Hi-C flavors, candy, bubble bath, phones, just anything you could slap a Mario on top of.
Because you completely controlled Mario in games that rewarded you for going everywhere and doing everything. Or rather, making Mario go everywhere and do everything. So in a sense, the love people feel for Mario is the love God feels for humanity.
Mario's appeal is not really stories and characterization the appeal of Mario is that he's an adventurer basically and in each new game Nintendo invents new varied power ups for Mario to use. That alone impresses audiences in what was at the time a rising new medium of entertainment, video games.
And video game characters work like that they are neat due to their abilities which you use in their adventures throughout their games. This is one of the reasons gaming series have taken over everything. What do you think sounds cooler to you the characters from Avatar who are limited to one type of element bending OR Mario who can do all the elements and MORE through his power ups? There you go.
>This is one of the reasons gaming series have taken over everything.
I fricking hate how gaymen became such a juggernaut of a medium that it sidelined other/better mediums because the shit taste masses only want to play games instead of watch movies or cartoons >What do you think sounds cooler to you the characters from Avatar who are limited to one type of element bending OR Mario who can do all the elements and MORE through his power ups? The avatar cast because theyre actual fricking characters and not ron jeremy mickey mouse

Games largely took over because they are not totally beholden to a middleman. You can make a game and sell it and that's that. It stands on it's own legs.
To make a show you need a major studio to approve of it, which brings on executives that want to make changes, advertisers who want to make changes, standards and practices who want to make changes, and they might mutate the whole thing into shit, and then the show is cancelled for being shit. Sometimes it is cancelled for not keeping advertisers happy because it does not push cereal or shoes well enough.
All other media needs to go through corporate suits in a different platform, while game developers can make their shit and peddle it.
Your right in alot of ways but i still hate it that way since i do not enjoy video games as a medium. I do like how animation seems to be doing alot with underground independent shows now so thats always cool >Sometimes it is cancelled for not keeping advertisers happy because it does not push cereal or shoes well enough.
I dont get this at all with shows, especially since i want them to make merch for said shows but they stubbornly refuse to make said merch and cancel the show cuz "it didnt move merch" even tho it didnt have any merch to begin with

Because on broadcast tv, series are sold to advertisers who choose to pay for them or not. Not to viewers. Viewers are not even considered in the process really. A show lives or dies based on how well it helps advertiser sales.
And sometimes an advertiser will decide a show does not cater to their demographic the product they are selling caters to so they threaten to pull their money unless something closer to their target is put in that timeslot. It's how successful shows were cancelled anyway and replaced with shittier ones.

Didn't move merch means it did not help paid advertiser sales at all. Those companies will blame the show for being so bad that it caused sales of whatever like Poptarts to go down last quarter.

Man frick advertisers, im glad cable is dying after all
I wonder why these never used this costume design again. In every other episode her "civilian" clothes are actualy just a re-treat of Janine's costume desing from the first TV series.
The Slimer seasons were pain incarnate no thanks to executive meddling. Extreme Ghostbusters only accepted the first 3 seasons as canon and made the ghosts more ghoulish than as a frick you to those dipshit executives.
This shit is more an anime than a cartoon (probably has to do with it being animated in japan but still) this never felt like an american cartoon despite being based of an american franchise
I always wanted to watch this show just because Ghostbusters were really cool. A small business that hunted ghosts, the mixture of sci-fi babble with the supernatural and the occult, I've heard there's some good worldbuilding and horror in the cartoon.
But I can't sit down to hear the Ghostbusters theme on repeat in every scene for 100+ episodes
The first two seasons at least. They brought in some experts to "improve" the show even though it was all-ready awesome and they those experts sabotaged the show.
qrd?
>Getting rid of Lorenzo Music because Bill had to be an butthole.
I watched a ton of this show as a kid and I don't recall the early stuff being much different than later seasons.
Upghost
Stay Puft marshmallow man is looking kind of sexy.

It's a well made movie about a very imaginative original concept, starring a likeable characters.
You do you, no shame in that, but it's a great movie
>original concept
Did they have backpacks that shot lasers to capture ghosts
Ghostbusters should've just been one movie.
Yeah, but the TV show is pretty cool during its good episodes. Might make some webm's.

You are.
Everything was fine with our thread until dickless here posted his contrarian bullshit.
Is this true?
Do you want the proper answer or the edited-for-TV answer?
Yes it's true.
This anon
has no dick.
Or he's some kind of rodent, don't know which.
Don't worry anon, I don't like the film either. I like Rick moranis, but the other guys didn't give a shit and just wanted some quick pay.
Dan Aykroyd spent years trying to make it.
Didn't care about him in the film, he was much better off with blues brothers, he'll even coneheads is a preferable movie to watch him in.
>Not only are the Ghostbusters, in universe, just doing it for the paycheck

Second movie. There's a scene where while his friends were in danger he was trying to get sex from that single mother character.
Murray didn't want to do any action scenes.
>stand around with a backpack
>special effects artists do all the work
>"action"
Anon, it's a comedy.
>They're just doing it for the paycheck
THAT'S THE JOKE.
The original movie is a masterpiece of comedy writing.
The Real Ghostbusters might be the first piece of media I experienced that had a face turn for a bad guy with Mister Stay Puft.
Doesn't the cartoon state that the Stay-Puft that Gozer became and the actual Stay-Puft ghost are separate entities?
Oh shit, I don't know. I'm going by what I remember from being a kid.
Yeah cartoon Stay Puff was just a big marshmallow ghost. Not a form of Gozer.
Janine was great. How many of you will admit to rubbing one out to her?
these look like as if they were animated in japan
they most likely were.
I love how you can almost immediately tell when some cartoon from the 80s was animated by a Japanese studio

TMS to be exact.
75% of the time when somebody say this here it isn't true.
Do you have a webm of the intro, when all the ghosts are ganging up? I love that scene.

extreme ghostbusters was kino
and kylie is top tier waifu

i had the same reaction in college
joker's not looking so hot
bustin
This show had some of the coolest toys
My favorite was the haunted toilet figure
