    >NOT LE HECKIN WIFE AND KIDS
The catalyst for all this was so insanely dumb and out of nowhere. Good movie but the finale was so hamfisted and had 'let's get this movie over with' type of feeling.

It’s a play on a Greek tragedy. The “joke” is that his fatal flaw that undoes him is the small bit of humanity that he has left.

The really stupid part is that Tony, a Pablo-tier drug kingpin by that point in the movie, would personally participate in an assassination instead of sending one of his trusted men. He could've sent Manny, Ernie, or that little Bruno Mars looking dude instead.

You can trace all Tony's depression and spiraling out of control to the women in his life. Tony should have never married Elvira. He already saw she was a nothing person that Frank was very tired of. But he thought he could turn her into a loving tradwife mother. She was exactly as she appeared: an empty headed, drug addict, with no inclination towards motherhood and no ability to bear children. Tony desperately wanted children and it's the reason he refused to kill kids at the end. Then Tony's sister was the only thing pure and innocent in his life. He wanted to protect her and make he happy, but just by interacting with her it corrupted her. She immediately wanted into the degenerate life even though it would destroy her. She went from shy, calm decent person to coke head, crazy, ungrateful, idiotic screaming banshee in record time. If Tony had found a sweet young woman to marry who was interested in being a mother, and if his sister was way less of a psycho hoe beast, then Tony wouldn't have needed to turn to drugs and alcohol to cope

      >But he thought he could turn her into a loving tradwife mother

its insane how many ppl fall for this and it also goes for women trying to change no good men

      >Tony desperately wanted children and it's the reason he refused to kill kids at the end.

The Mist. I've never actually had an ending make my stomach twist in knots, but that one did it

That one annoyed me because it was so contrived. Two seconds later the entire national guard just emerges from the mist along the very same road they just drove up. They must have driven past them to get where they were going. Artificial pathos.
The book's ending was far more ambiguous, they just drove off into the mist.
I would rather have seen the adventure of the lady who left the store to go and rescue her kid, and was seen riding with her kid with the national guard at the end. At least then we'd have some proper monster encounters.

The army walked way slower than the car. For the army to catch up immediately after shooting the family and before shooting himself, it means he literally passed them by 10 minutes before. Or else they couldnt have appeared that close.

This is such a stupid way to think about movies. There are a million ways this could have played out to have them be physically out of frame a few minutes earlier and get there in time for that scene.

          Anonymous

Like I said, artificial pathos. It's a synthetic situation to make you go
          >Ironic, isn't it! If only he had hesitated! And turns out the woman who left the grocery store was right to do so!
It's artificial and cheap, even stephen king didn't use such a cheap ending for his story.

Manny deserved his fate. He was too stupid. Goes AWOL when Tony left him in charge, no notice, no word, just disappears, then does the one thing Tony asked him not to do: bang his sister. Tony obviously, but Frank was a piece of shit too. They were both ready to backstab each others and there were dirty cops and informants into the mix as well...

It's surprising how long they kept their police connections hidden from Tony. He didn't suspect even after Omar got killed for it

          Anonymous

What I don't like is that it's left "ambiguous" that Omar was an informant
Frank justifies himself by saying that Sosa was just manipulating Tony and that there was no way his right-hand man was an informant, but logically there was no reason for Sosa to kill Omar out of nowhere, and he received that information mid-conversation with him

        >give Tony a slow death
doesn't seem Sosa's style, even salieri didn't have that; just De Palma's creative choice
Thematically it was to demonstrate that Sosa thought he could manipulate Tony's stupidity for his own gain, but that he couldn't manipulate Tony's humanity, and it fricked him over
he's sweating bullets on the phone saying, "You FRICKED me Tony" so I don't think he sees a way out for himself either
