>Red Rooms (French: Les chambres rouges) is a 2023 Canadian psychological thriller film, written and directed by Pascal Plante.[1] The film stars Juliette Gariépy as Kelly-Anne, a woman who is fascinated with the criminal trial of serial killer Ludovic Chevalier (Maxwell McCabe-Lokos), and is driven into the dark web world of cybercrime as she becomes obsessed with trying to find the missing video of the death of a 13-year-old girl which would definitively prove Ludovic's guilt or innocence
This was a good movie
I saw this a few days ago, great movie. The part where she dresses up as one of the victims in court was insane. Her username of the poker site was a reference to this poem by Tennyson.
https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45360/the-lady-of-shalott-1842
Thematically it ties into the film.
I really enjoyed how many long takes they did where one character would talk like the court scenes or interviews, then the camera would pan around to reactions or follow someone else. Very dynamic way to do court scenes
Can you summarize what the poem is about?
an old lady dies and then lancelot said hed still shag her
So she is the old lady and the killer is lancelot, in her mind?
It's not about an old lady. It's about a maiden (The Lady of Shalott) in a tower upriver from Camelot cursed to weave at a loom without rest. She has a mirror allowing her to see out a nearby window, she weaves the images she sees into the fabric. One day handsome Lancelot rides by and the lady is so struck by his beauty that she leaves her seat and goes to the window. The mirror shatters and a storm begins. She leaves the tower and gets in a boat to finally go to Camelot knowing the curse will kill her before she reaches it. When the boat with her body passes through the city all the people come out to see it, and Lancelot himself remarks on her beauty.
So I guess thematically Kelly-Anne is The Lady of Shalott, the images she sees online are like those the Lady sees in her mirror. The killer is her Lancelot who she will risk everything for a glance from. The images of a young woman losing everything and dying is also very potent for her.
This is how you make a metaphor work. Snyder could take a lesson.
The poker player Ching Ting or whatever is the name of a famous female Chinese pirate who retired and was incredibly wealthy
I wonder what the explanation for the actual killer somehow being involved in this insanely lucrative business was when clearly they had no evidence he ever spent much money on anything
Only thing I could think of is he spent it on buying other videos
The final bitcoin bid was like 40-50 grand for that video.
Actually no, it was like 500 grand i missed a zero.
Goddamn was she making that much modelling or is she just really good at poker?
I read the poem but I don’t get how it ties into the film. Other than vague shit like she’s in a skyscraper apartment and the poem lady is in a tower
>This was a good movie
Pearls before swine. This is a site full of mouth breathing American dullards.
This thread will die same as the last one.
Don't recommend them good movies. They don't deserve them and won't appreciate them.
Leave them to their capeshit.

If this thread dies it wasn't because of the Americans youre eternally obsessed with and blame all your problems on incel
Seething Amerilard detected.
I pass by regularly to see if people are talking about something good, and all the threads are clickbait and useless discussions about trash.
Why did she do it? I saw some people say she only did it to get the killer convicted but she definitely seemed to have a prurient interest in the videos.
She was clearly a hybristophiliac, one of those women who are actually turned on by the dangerous criminals and their crimes. She looked like she was practically having an orgasm in the scene where she dressed up like the schoolgirl to make him look at her
Also obviously her goal wasn’t just to convict him, his case was pretty clearly an open and shut one. At no point in the trial does it ever seem like he has a real chance. Even his biggest fan girl immediately knew he was guilty when she saw the videos the jury were seeing
Any other Quebec kino? Particularly crime/horror/thrillers?
This is the other buzzy Quebec horror of last year.
More of a horror-comedy though.

Some kind anon provided this tracker back when I was looking for some new French film
torrent911 . cx
It's in there with the French title.
Hope I can find subtitles.
Only portrayal of hybristophilia and fascination with true crime by women that I’ve seen pretty accurately represented in a film
>Only portrayal of hybristophilia and fascination with true crime by women that I’ve seen pretty accurately represented in a film
Women are just evil, aren't they.
This frame from the film captures the experience of showing it to someone.
>subtitles
I’ll wait for the dub
Heaven forfend you'd have use that shrivelled American brain and multitask.
Told you, OP. It's just not worth the effort.
Sounds shit
Clementine is cute
Watched last night. Great movie even.
Thanks for the recommendation, I just finished watching it and I’m surprised how many moments freaked me out considering we never see anything remotely gruesome
The closest it ever got to a more conventional thriller is those guys in the van who were clearly dark web hackers checking on who she was.
Ending where she gave the video to police made me wonder wouldn’t they be pissed and kill her?
But the dude was already pretty much fricked and going to jail, and the other bidders were just gonna wait for the leak afterwards anyway. So if she just leaked it online the police would see it that way, not like the red room guys could be pissed about that, and they must have not given a shit about killer dude
>This was a good movie
Okay I will trust a random anon one last time. But if I find it boring and trite like most recommendations, I will never listen to you guys again!
its a good film anon , maybe its more engaging to me since i know french but the themes are interesting in themselves and for some reason not more explored in mainstream kino
They’re not explored more because only women really get this obsessed with sick murderers and it makes them look bad
Okay I'm done watching. It was surprisingly decent. It was good at creating tension and had some neat audio and visual tricks. The main character being autistic and the emphasis on technology kept reminding me of The Hater (2020), also a thriller.
Overall thanks for the rec, babe.
Also the main actress was cute 🙂
Post her when she dresses like a schoolgirl
Yeah I just finished it too but im a bit confused. Did she know the whole time he was guilty, if so how?
Probably did. I guess it was obvious, like it is in some crime cases.
She already saw the first two murder videos a lot earlier and while he had a mask on in them, you could see his body shape, movements and his eyes up close. It was pretty obvious it was him. Hence why the girl who believed he was innocent so much up to then completely reversed when she actually saw the videos
> Did she know the whole time he was guilty, if so how?
The evidence was pretty damning tbh. Imo She knew all along thats why she was so emotionally interested in him, recall her tear in the opening court scene. She had the hots for him cause b***h was crazy.
What was he doing with the money he made off these videos? They sold that last one for like half a mil. It was the only thing his defense lawyer said that made me think he might be innocent
Saving them for a exit? Who knows. Just last year there was news of a forklift operator who died with millions on his bank accounts. He lived a modes life and invested his whole adult life. He never did much with the money. He just had it.
Yeah but they couldn’t find any link to him having the money in an account somewhere or owning them in bitcoins or whatever. Which you think they definitely would after they’ve found the fricking torture videos on his computer and raided everything
Also maybe I’m just biased but the way he acted in the start of the movie seemed more innocent. But then I was thinking how the frick would I act if I was accused of this and had to sit around for months hearing people say I did this. Probably try to zone out to ignore it so I don’t have a mental breakdown
I reckon he is just a freaky middleman who does the dirtywork and takes the fall. The money stays with the auction guy
Nice, she looked cute like this. Any pic where you can see the fake braces she has on? Maybe when they’re dragging her away
Honestly at some points I thought she was trans :/
Damn this culture of ours where it makes a man doubt a woman
I hate french canadians so much its not funny.
they make good movies tho
Ok, any good armpit hair scenes or anything?
Were the van men actually the dark web guys or was she just paranoid?
Why did she blend her Siri?
Was that inspired by Cedrika Provencher's case?
Just read up on this and I don’t really see how it could be? He seems much more likely to be innocent and the girl is way younger than these. And there’s no indication she was killed for some kind of video like this movies victims
It is in the news though, he’s suing the Quebec police. There isn’t much detail so it’s hard to know whether he’s guilty and the police just fricked it up, or the police decided he was their man early on and focused everything on him as a result.
They literally charged him with illegal porn possession two days after the body was found, and a judge threw it out because they didn’t get a warrant. That’s an insane level of incompetence. Now apparently they’re demanding he do a polygraph test before giving him any settlement (polygraphs have zero scientific value, they’re literally just for dumb criminals to feel like they’re getting exposed and bait them into confessing. You cannot use them in court as evidence in any western country I know)
