I have no idea why it's so highly rated. It seems like schlock from what I've seen

I really liked it at the time but I honestly can't imagine going back to it now. Some of the performances are still good and shit, I feel like I just grew out of it. It's really not deep enough thematically and there's no moral to the story.

      >no moral to the story

The moral of the show is so fricking simple I don't know how you could possibly say that, it's basically just a tragedy

Walter wins in the end though.

Not really. He had a bit of a bad time getting separated from his family for months, but even still, he was able to pass a huge amount of wealth onto his son and say goodbye to his wife and daughter, save Jesse, and avenge Hank before dying with his true love. Seems to me like it paid off.

His family hated him and he died alone, the meth lab might have sparked a bit of happiness but I don't see how you could read that Walt was completely content in the final episode

I think Walt lowkey hated his family, especially Skyler for holding him back for so long and I don't blame him. Cooking meth represented freedom for him. That's why he chose to do it even when Elliot offered him a job. He didn't want to be under anyone's thumb anymore, and he wasn't.

So yeah, basically I liked the show up until season 5 where I felt the themes of the show became really confused. Everything thematically is telling me that Walt being le based Heisenberg and taking charge of his own destiny was the right and profitable thing to do, but from episode to episode it seems to be telling me that Walt is the bad guy and I'm supposed to hate him. I really didn't get it and I want someone to explain it to me if they can.

One last post to say I think the fault lies with the hype built around the show after season 4 and people online arguing about Walt being evil influencing Vince Gilligan and the writers. I think they wanted to show Walt's downfall and make it clear he's not the good guy, but they still made him win because they couldn't figure out how to reconcile his character with that.

The whole point from the start was turning a normal, law-abiding suburban family man into a ruthless, murdering drug lord. It becomes clear as the series goes on that he destroys and ends many the lives of many people, both good and bad, just so he could indulge in a power fantasy. I agree with the other guy, in that his "victory" is very hollow due to him losing everything that was important to him, even his meth.

Sopranos has identical problem. Last season Tony becomes the biggest butthole on Earth because Chase hated fans rooting for him.

I think they set up Tony's shift a lot better, though. In season 2 he kills his best friend from childhood and then continues killing people close to him to the very end including his cousin and nephew. The coma episodes were basically meant to be his final warning to get out of the life and turn things around, and after he wakes up he does keep repeating "life is a gift" but he quickly backslides on it back into his old ways. Then there's the peyote trip which is pretty much the final nail in the coffin where he decides he's no longer looking for redemption.

He was already an butthole, but the stress he gets put under throughout the series makes him a total one. And I thought Chase refused to film a death scene for Tony out of spite for people turning on Tony?

Ugly shitty wife who gave him a handjob on his bday and a moron son vs being a drug kingpin feared by even Mexican cartels and leaving a legacy for at least decades?

Skyler was still a terrible, overly conservative suburban housewife with right wing values.

Skyler wasn't terrible after learning of Walt's secret, aside from the Ted thing. I mean being the meth kingpin of New Mexico with a shit ton of cash, Walt could've easily had some side slam-piece, probably could've taken Lydia for a ride a few time, but never did.

From episode 1 especially I didn't like her. I mean she gave the man a disinterested hand job for his fricking birthday! What does he get for Christmas? 20 minutes alone with Her and Ted's sex tape?

Just finished rewatching the show and holy frick I had forgotten just how bad I felt for Marie in season 4. I'd literally kill to have someone as supportive as she was in my life but Hank not only treated her like garbage throughout his recovery, but never even apologized for it. Kinda makes me not care as much about him getting killed.

      >Spend the whole morning getting Hank supplies and food/snacks
      >Marie........ get out
      >treats her so bad, she starts doing that keptoshit again and gets arrested
      >never apologizes
Hank just completely forgets he treated Marie like shit and we're supposed to forget about it as well. Hank was a piece of shit and Marie deserved better.
Also I would kill to have someone as supportive and loyal as Marie but
I'm ugly and moronic so that's never happening...
