Redpill me on RWBY

Is it an anime or a cartoon tryna be one? I’m on volume 4 but I’m kinda turned off by Ruby Rose and Jaune. Why is Ruby so unlikable? Isn’t she the main character?

The creators defined it as "anime but done right", so pretty much faux anime or just inspired. Ruby is terrible but so is everyone else is the shitshow

              >Who are the worst of the worst characters in this show?
As of the current volume, personally I would probably go with Cinder, Raven, and Oscar. Mainly because the writing around them is extremely bad despite being hugely important characters. On team RWBY specifically, it's Blake by far.
              >Qrow
              I'm sorry, anon.

I knew Oscar and Cinder would be shit. I never really cared for Raven. Blake was shitty from the very beginning.

              But Qrow…QROW
ARE YOU FRICKING KIDDING ME?!? WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?! WHY IS QROW GAY WHAT THE FUUUUUUCK?!?!?

He’s not gay. He meets some guy with a good luck semblance.
Then a comically stupid series of events happens for Qrow to end up getting the Good Luck Semblance guy killed.
Qrow says Ironwood will take the fall even though he wasn’t there and spends Volume 8 moping around like a loser.

They never make it explicit. It's in that zone of plausible deniability where they could just be really good friends. The things that really ruined him was he stopped being fun in volume 6 and he made the single stupidest decision in the entire show in volume 7.

it was a showcase of monty oums works of fighting animation
RT shoehorned a story in around the fighting scenes
Ruby's entire characterization is: i like guns, being a hero and eating cookies
Jaune is the true MC because he's Miles OC and monty is dead.

All the characters suck. There's too many. The characterizations are also both rushed and inconsistent. The plot is honestly all over the place and also bland. They wanted to build a world and they failed hard. Their entire success was built off Monty Oum's fight animations and the coomerific character designs. Both of which are gone. The war with Salem somehow manages to feel less dynamic than game of thrones yet more hard to follow and care about events. This is because the plot centers too hard on the rwby gang who are all over the map on different jobs that have to have a payoff for progression.

Game of thrones handles this by just having 3 straightforward plots at the same time and shuffling characters between them in a way that kind of feels like a small crossover.

TBF, Monty died midway through V3, and had already written the rest of it. V4 was were they had to go completely on their own, and it shows. I liked RWBY when it was one autistic weeb's passion project that he only got to make after years of being in the right position in the right company, because no one and nowhere else would ever greenlight this shit, but you could feel his passion for it, even when it was lame. Unironically the strongest example of soul vs souless I'd ever seen.

      >First, the world of RWBY: Ice Queendom is NOT an alternate universe or a reboot. While the story is set in the same universe as the main show, we’re calling it “canon adjacent”. Cartoon trying to be anime. The original creator, Monty Oum who passed away, used it as a way to show case crazy fights he made, he also did a lot of mocap for RvB. The issue with the story is that Monty isn't a writer so they had Miles Luna and Kerry (forgot his last name) make 2 pretty awful characters, Jaune and Neptune and used them as self inserts. Shame because it has potential but RT fell off in 16/17 when it became popular to be woke.

RWBY was Monty and is nothing without him. If you look back at the old RT vids, you can see him do ridiculous hours at his computer and it shows in his work. Incredibly fluid and engaging action that defined the show's look. It's very obvious Monty wanted to do a bunch of kickass fights and thought he could make a show by stringing together those fight setpieces with story inbetween.
