Finally watched this episode. Man, the way you guys talked about it I thought there was going to be way way way more spaghetti. It wasn’t that bad at all, he just fumbled delivering a message in a selfish way. But I was far more moronic than that in my 20s.

Shitty behavior. In general rationalized sleeping around. I never “cheated” on anyone, but I certainly safeguarded blame for shitty behavior by going to the “we’re not official” chestnut, and I did that often. I also went to art school, which is where Mordecai and I are equally moronic.

Principal and Pauper was going off the rails on established stuff. Mordecai was always a spergy jackass about romantic relationships throughout the whole show and this was just the worst iteration of it. Especially considering all the hoops he went through with CJ prior to it
Yeah but he never knew Margaret still had feelings for him. He was shaky in the helicopter episode but it seems like when Margaret calls that guy her bf he went full CJ mode
I mean, after the fact and being able to binge the show all the relationship stuff isn't that bad, but back when the shows premiered weekly and the whole ordeal could go month just to end in this episode it was pretty bad.
Principal and the Pauper is hated because it retconned everything we knew about Skinner into a lie. People consider it to be the tipping point for where the Simpsons started to go bad because that was the moment the writers decided they were willing to throw a character out the window for a joke. Which is bad in a character-driven comedy.
Dumped at the Altar is hated, not because of incompetence on the writers' part, but because it's hard to watch. It's extremely true to Mordecai's character, and the writers got the response they wanted from the audience, but that response was a negative one.
