They add traction but mostly it's to keep the feet flat. Most shoes especially running shoes have your feet angled down so it allows for a more efficient takeoff and landing. In lifting that angle will cause imbalances and you'll have to compensate.

I think the ballerina shoes was didn't fit her rough around the edges personality. The final design they gave her didn't look as good as the first movie but the reference to the original design was great. Pic rel was done early 2019 and works slightly better methinks.
I mean, they STILL have her balancing on her tip toes in OP's image despite not wearing the exact kind of shoe that's made for that. Clearly something about them "fit." I think they work just fine, and certainly more than converse.
Oh I didn't mean the second movie, like I said I liked the first movie's look better than the second. But I do like the idea of her having the chuck taylor's or something like it like like in her original design. The toe shoes are a fun twist but I disagree about the fit, it adds complexity with the straps to a design that rely on big contrasting shapes. They're also too thin and small so the whole figure looks like it has a weak foundation when standing up.

Not too sure how I feel about how different in color they are from the rest of the costume, but I think I like that more than not.
yeah, I remember the shoes have been a point of contention since her debut. No one seems to really have a concrete idea of what it even is in the early days given Robbi Rodriguez's vague and messy artstyle. The webs on her suit are cyan so technically it's part of the palette of her upper half but they're definitely the weakest link. They're too segregated from the rest of her costume to register as a pattern.

Parents have done that all on their own. Children are not just objects that exist to be molded into something. They are people and as someone who has known several trans people throughout their life, nothing was going to change their minds.
