Personally, I prefer the two of them together. Fred and Daphne are just too boring and cliche. Pairing Fred with Velma would also be more interesting.

      Fun fact
In the show that the Mystery Inc members were based on, Fred's inspiration ended up marrying Velma's inspiration
Also, the actress was a lesbian

I know this is hard to imagine nowadays, but there was a time where actors didn't have to be everything their characters were
Also, the actress came out after the show was over

          >In the show that the Mystery Inc members were based on
          what?

The characters, other than Scooby, were based on the main characters of a 50s sitcom called "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis"

Fred, Shaggy, Daphne and Velma were inspired by the characters of a very old show called "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis". Fred was inspired by Dobie. Velma's inspiration was another character on the show named Zelda. The actress who played the character Zelda was apparently a lesbian IRL, while the character wasn't.

Same here dude, I grew up seeing those episodes (and Solo Shaggy and Scooby) first. Of the solos, Reluctant Werewolf is my favorite. When I saw Red Shaggy in Cyberspace I was so happy.

Those old shows are gold, man. I used to watch reruns of them and Father Knows Best, Love That Bob, Jack Benny, and Burns and Allen on ThisTV Network. It was a hoot.

Shaggy comes from a rich family and is the star of his high school track team. He was never some loser, but a slacker.

I kind of figure Velma and Shaggy were paired up in the dance loop that Cartoon Network used to run. Not sure how often it happened in the OG series but that left me thinking there might be something to it, and FredxDaphne.

Where Fred and Daphne had the All-American good looks going: I'd've imagined a Velma and Shaggy connection would be more casual. Because they were comfortable with each other, had similar interests, and were chill, and things along the lines of a casual relationship like that might sort of follow a bunch of teens living la vida roadtrip. The time it was official, Mystery Incorperated, Velma being so violently into Shaggy and controlling to the point she doesn't want him to spend time with his dog is not the dynamic I ever imagined between them.

Shaggy has never shown an interest in mysteries, he's just a chill dude who likes hanging with his friends and eating food. In fact Velma has admonished and made fun of Shaggy's insatiable apatite before so she doesn't seem to be a foodie herself.

I guess I didn't properly qualify what I was explaining was the impressions I got as a kid. So don't think I'm about to invest much of my self-worth into championing my 25 year old predictions. But I wasn't saying
          >Shaggy and Velma are absolutely dating and are perfect for each other because...
          I was saying
          >I wouldn't have been shocked if Shaggy and Velma were an item, if they were one.
Also I was trying to emphasize it'd be more of a casual relationship rather than a "destined to be together forever" thing. As far as what interest they'd bond over, or what their dates would be like? Really up to the writers to make one up that doesn't apply to the rest of the gang. If you're asking me to guess at one now? I'd say stargazing. Is there any evidence at all for that? Yes: Shaggy owns a telescope and Velma is well informed in astronomy, like every academic topic. But really I think it's just convenient as it's an activity you can easily do living out of a van traveling the country.

Has Daphne having an interest in being a mystery writer EVER come up? I don't remember this at all. All I remember of when the franchise started trying to give her more depth was just either being wacky and moronic in Be Cool like Francine Smith or lamenting people only like Velma as a smart woman and sees her as a useless pretty face and don't take her seriously.

If they want to give Daphne some depth, drop the "muh sexism" bullshit and let her show an interest in writing in some of the DTV movies. That sounds really cool and cute.

Them again, they *could* have made it so she's the expert on disguises, being able to identify clues related to them and say shit like "this kind of nylon can only be found as an import... unless you worked at the docks!". Weaponize her love for clothing.

I guess she could be the “sexy one” that uses her charms to get information out of suspects. Or like “Face” from the A-Team
But it basically would never come up in any scooby doo cartoon which is about men in rubber masks scaring people
And making her sexy to trick men into giving up information probably wouldn’t fly in a cartoon for kids

Adding to this, you could have her method of investigation be of reverse engineer the costumes. She would bring up things like this footstep having the shape of a size something rubber boot commonly used by fisherman, suggesting that its owner must have been a guy with large feet. This piece of velvet doesn't react well to humidity, so its owner wouldn't want it to get wet. This used purple lipstick is of an expensive brand and she noticed this one rich lady they met earlier wearing the exact same brand. This fairy dust is actually a homemade mixture of these materials, sometimes used in movie props. Etc.

You could have scenes like Velma and Daph buying shoes. Velma is talking about the mystery and wonders why Daph is wasting time when they got work to do. It turns out that she was multi tasking by investigating the shoe related clue from earlier. Velma is a genius but when it comes to fashion, Daph has a freaky knowledge of it.

Hell, you could even give Daph a taste for horror movies while you are at it, just to make things funnier as she's genuinely interested in costume design while Shaggy isn't having any of it. It would bring something new to the group dynamic and explain why she enjoys tagging along to solve mysteries.

I wonder if it would be too similar to give Velma an outspoken interest in mystery novels and Daphne a love of horror movies. It would give Daphne something to relate to the others with regarding the mysteries they solve, it could be practical in that she's aware of the cliches of the genre and avoids the obvious pitfalls, and it could lead to some good jokes.

            >"Alright, gang, let's split up and search for clues! Daphne, you go into the basement, while me and Velma-"

            >"Oh, no, I've seen what happens to pretty young girls who go into the basement alone! You're coming with me."

But Daphne was a news broadcaster circa Zombie Island. Amateur broadcasting made the most sense for her superficial type of character.

But that means Fred is a camera guy permanently stuck in that role. It's sad he's just hired muscle with no purpose. If he fricked the slampig nerd girl that would be funny and cute tbqh.
