The audience thought he was doing a bit at first, he tells the story so well.
Very well handled by Dave getting on top of it and defusing it himself by making it a story and joking about it. Calling it "creepy things" he did and then revealing he just had sex with women. Not once saying the words "wife" or "affair", only "my family". It definitely would have gotten out and looked way worse if he had kept quiet about it.

I watched his show the most during the era when she would do bits, usually with the audience. A major part of me felt like she was having sex with Dave back then, but my prevailing thought was that surely he wouldn't be so bold as to put her front and center like that if there was any impropriety.
