I would not say it is completely woke perse but is clear as water that they tried to appeal to the female demographic, specially the female fans of things like twilight by making "the real Lobo" a bishonen pretty boy.

Nothing wrong with appealing to the female gaze but it becomes hypocritical when trying to use it to replace original popular characters and with how frowned upon is the male gaze in the industry.
Maybe it’s overdone? The entertainment industry’s been catering towards dudes since it’s inception. But even then, attempts to tap into the female market is mixed at best, abysmal at worst. Nubo wasn't woke, he was a shitty attempt at trying to turn Lobo into a 00s pretty boy antihero. The funny thing is, that's actually not a half bad idea if they went into it as tongue and cheek as they did with Lobo's 90s run, just making him a pastiche of a different comic book era and maybe have the new and old one interact with each other. Unfortunately, the writer lacked any sort of self-awareness and it predictably sucked.
But, to be fair, I DO want to frick him, so they were at the very least somewhat successful at their goal
