Season 1 is basically like edgier Simpsons, conveniently arriving right as The Simpsons was starting to wane quality. Seasons 2 - 4 gradually ramp up the edgy and random elements, but still have solid character writing and are funny as frick. Season 5 is just as funny but is also when the character writing starts goes off the rails. Season 6 is like a worse season 5, still pretty good but it's not really recognizable as how it started anymore. Season 7 is hit or miss and every successive season is like that, but with a worse and worse miss-to-hit ratio.
Honestly the most recent seasons are the worst but not because they're too crazy, rather they've tried to rein in the show and focus it on the character writing but the character writing is so bad now. It's just boring. They should go for as edgy and crazy as possible instead, since other shows are more tame these days.

It's like all of these shows it should have ended decades ago and the people making it even admit it. It's almost all garbage and for the tiny moments that are actually funny you should just watch a five minute YouTube compilation once a year and you'll have seen everything that's worth seeing.
No shows are worth going on for so long. A show that is still worth it even 5, 6, 7 seasons along is rare much less this garbage. The people making it are all bored out of their skulls with it by this time and painfully shit out old rock hard feces bullshit for the money.
