Ren, sick of Stimpy's antics, gives Stimpy a smartphone to distract him. Stimpy falls in love with the phone immediately, but it interferes with Ren's sleep. After a long day of work, Ren comes home to find Stimpy still in bed, rotting away on his phone. Ren knocks out Stimpy with chloroform, and then takes the phone and throws it off a remote cliff into the ocean. The phone comes to life, calling a taxi and returning to Ren and Stimpy's home. Ren comes back from work, only to find out that Stimpy has been possessed by the phone. Possessed Stimpy grabs and swallows Ren, and Ren tears the cables out, bringing Stimpy back. The segment ends with Ren realizing Stimpy just wanted more time with him, with Ren now living inside Stimpy.

Go rewatch the original show, the "Games Animation" episodes are even grosser than the Spumco episodes, I'd say "Double Header" is probably one of the darkest ones they made, the later seasons in general were darker and less funny

This isn't the 90s anymore, gramps. If you look at the meetings, Spumco letters, & R&S storyboards that were shelved or rejected by Nick, you will find the R&S was NEVER made for kids. Case & point: Stimpy's Pregnant was one of those episodes rejected by Nick that John revived in APC. Also some of Games Animation episodes were featured only on MTV. This reboot is being funded & sponsored by Comedy Central, an adult-oriented network.
R&S was very much a kids show; they just assumed they could get away with more because Nick was a cable channel. And they DID get away with more. Even the stuff that did air would have IMMEDIATELY been kicked off of network tv.
That was the best part of it. Restrictive rating allowed for creativity in what they could get away with. You don't get that with APC or this reboot.

To be fair, gross out came out in the 80s. John K was not the first & definitely wasn't the last person to do gross out. Spongebob got its gross out factor from Ren & Stimpy. Bob Camp has even had involvement in some Spongebob episodes.
Ren and Stimpy didn't invent it but it is what popularized it and the gross-out in Spongebob was mostly in it's later seasons, at least "Ren and Stimpy level" gross-out

MTV LatAm used to air Adult Party Cartoon a lot during the mid 2000s alongside Drawn Together so it did got a kind of a cult following in LatAm, since some of the episodes lasted about an hour they would split them into 3 episodes and air them on different days making it seem like the series had more episodes than it actually did

His greatest contributions were convincing the team to pull fully boarded and written episodes. This caused constant production issues and delays, causing Alex Hirsch to be replaced partway through in order to get the show on track. Why do you think Alex didn't say ANYTHING about Inside Job at all? Now you know. Also protip when posting in these leak threads, try not to bump. Type sage in the options field to not bump the post. Slight exaggeration but I'm not wrong. For starters, he didn't promote Inside Job. I don't think you can call 5 Twitter posts when the show first released "promotion". This is terrible promotion anyways. If I was a fan of Alex Hirsch I would be confused as frick as to what Inside Job is. He doesn't accurately tell anyone what it is or who it appeals to, just "HEY YOU LIKE GRAVITY FALL, THIS OTHER CARTOON ALSO EXISTS". This is the bare minimum of promoting the show you are executive producing. If I was him I'd be far more vocal. Snipple is the Studio Mir of comedy cartoons, but I do agree that Toon City and Top Draw are better Filipino studios but all 3 of them are still much better then Toei's own Filipino studio (pic related).
Rough Draft is stiff and stilted, Snipple at least is more fluid then Rough Draft and Mir but thats it.

For a modern cartoon this isn't bad animation, yeah it's shit compared to the original but it's better than I expected. Why the FRICK did they make this decision though? A huge part of Ren and Stimpy's aesthetic and humor came from contrasting that era's "feel good" vibes with the absolute insanity actually happening in the show.
The 50s and 60s were John K's childhood, the 90s were the childhood of the people making this show, so they're updating the nostalgia.
It was like the defining aesthetic of the show though, I get it's a reboot but it feels like a weird thing to ditch.
If they had kept anyone from the old show it'd still use it, but with their current crew it'd be false anemoia. Better to make it their own than to just mindlessly copy something without understanding it.
I guess that's fair. A lot of people in the modern animation industry are probably too removed from that era now to really replicate it in the way a lot of artists in the 90s were doing.

So I saw the clips and this is...actually promising! The animation isn't nearly as bad as you were saying, the acting is good, and while there's definitely modernization at play, the overall presentation is identical to the original series. I actually got a chuckle out of the modern rock Log, the "multiple types" of logs being the same is exactly the kind of joke the original would make. I'm looking forward to this!

Adding my two cents, the backgrounds are amazing. Does make me wonder how the audio mixing and music will help the action though because when it cut to the cable, it was a very modern style of boarding, which for no reason needed to be a cut away detail shot.
The expressions are a bit recycled but I'm glad it was taking it's time to build the tension. I just don't see Ren being that "action" oriented, he's a bit too cowardly to fight back like that.
I'm willing to give this cartoon SOME credit, if it can build the appropriate atmosphere when it all comes together. This sort of animation is MILES better than the Looney Tunes short animation, and the line weight really helps.
Big problem here is that the original series already did an episode like this with Stimpy being addicted to TV.

from what I understand the Looney Tunes films were really only intended to be shown once in theaters until TV changed that, so before then they repurposed and remade a few cartoons. of course things going to be different in the TV age when things are reran over and over
You could catch "reruns" of animated shorts when theaters would play a bunch of them for child matinees or double features before tv existed.
In terms of quality it goes Spumco Ren and Stimpy >= Adult Party Cartoon Ren and Stimpy > Games Animations Ren and Stimpy > Comedy Central Reboot Ren and Stimpy.

Both are fine. Some of the composition is worse on the right but the animation is fine on both.
The Games Animation version doesn't draw Ren correctly in the first few seconds. On top of that, it looks like they were too lazy to add a background. The colors in the Spumco version are more appealing. There's a background, it had shading , & it's animated while Ren is animated. The Spumco version is superior.

Yes that's a lot of rigging. They're doing a decent job masking it though.
You can't really expect TV animation to be fully frame-by-frame. Even before rigging existed "limited animation" was the cel equivalent.
LTC uses a lot of tweening/rigging but that video is not one of them. The video in
has some actual examples of it.
There is a lot of rigging going on it. They didn't care to hide it as well in the other one. With enough effort you can approch frame-by-frame quality with a rig base.

That's one single episode and it's not even 10 min. That's just a promotional thing. There's no chance in hell they'd make and entire series looking like that.
Also interesting seeing nips trying on full western style animation. You can tell they're kind of uncomfortable doing it seeing how strangely restrained the movements are.
It's not promotional, plus Animaniacs'2020 was going to be frame by frame by the original show's team until Wellesley Wild butchered it into the tween SJW nightmare we got and forced the original show's team to do Tower of God and Shenmue: The Animation instead.
Same song and dance with Tiny Toons Looniversity, Erin Gibson forced the original teram to do a Rick and Morty anime that ended up being written off because Lupin Zero, Four Knights of the Apocalypse and Kawagoe Boys Sing failed to make back the spin off's budget, plus TMS took Bakugan away from CN in protest because they hated how Tiny Toons Looniversity was handled.
That Pokemon short was more of the studio used not being use to full animation (except for Magic Bus who is use to it due to being a TMS/Telecom subcontractor back in the day), Telecom was (is if they pony up enough money to hire the old crew back as seen in the opening/cut scenes to Puyo Puyo Quest and Sonic Superstars) the master of full western style animation in Japan.
