rich vos fricking sucks and isn't funny. he just lisps the same boring kvetching and sex woes bits from the early 2000s and still does the awful forced edginess from the era when everyone was trying to bite howard stern's style. he IS the joke and paying to see him is the punchline.

the ideal situation is that Ant and Jimmy kept doing a show in the Sirius studio with Erock, Sam, and Travis as producers, cranking out comfy low key shows and being completely neglected by management. people conflate Opie's presence (bad) with the sleepy, insular atmosphere of the Sirius studio (good)

people don't want Opie & Anthony back. they want the 2011-2014 vibe back.

in the later years, Opie's douchiest tendencies were beaten down. they all sounded pretty disillusioned with Sirius, and had given up their hopes of being world-conquering radio stars* and were punching the clock. I don't know how many listeners O&A had during this era, but it sounded like a show being made for a tiny core of diehard fans, done from sheer habit rather than passion. Opie is mostly a hack, but sometimes even he could be funny in this environment

*paradoxically, the seeds had mostly been sewn for O&A's legacy to eventually eclipse that of Howard's

Yeah, but I gotta admit, having Opie there to actually move the show along was needed. He acted like the host and the other 2 were the talent. Yes he was unfunny, but he also added that cringe element that the other 2 could not. Especially when shores were present. Ant and Jim would simp, and it would be up to Opie and Patrice to get anything funny from pornstars.

The Jim and Sam show was just 2 guys jerking off to wrestling and porn stars. God how many times did that Dominican b***h 3rd chair thier show? And Ants public access show is just sad, its just one step above Ethan Ralphs or Nick Fuentes bullshit shows.

Opie has a god awful podcast no one listens too. I have nothing nice to say about it, except the best ones are him out on the street bothering random people. There's just something Kino about a washed up radio host bugging joggers and talking to crazy people on the streets of NY

as much as people like to credit Opie for “steering the ship”, there were so many times he would interrupt good riffing with a caller who added absolutely nothing to the show. his insistence on starting bits also made for a lot of tedium, considering they would get a few okay jokes out of a bit then move on, only to have Opie steer the show right back into the bit, milking it completely dry. I understand 90% of their show was essentially them padding for time, but Opie’s contributions stemmed from him being a pissbaby over not being clever enough to jump in and riff with the others, so he would instead just kill it all together.

Totally agreed. He functioned best when he was a tard wrangler. Not a!it of guys out there that can steer a bunch of comics back to watching whatever dumb YouTube video he wanted them to react too.

Listening to CumTown, I always found thats thier problem, they riff so goddamn long on one subject, it's not worth listen to an episode, just catch the highlight on youtube. If they had an Opie, they could have a product. Yes some of the magic would belost, but having a structure would see them be millionairs instead of whatever degenerates they are now

I’ve never understood the hype for Cum Town in the slightest, personally. I’ve always preferred Sleepy Cast which was tightly edited and paced incredibly well without making the conversations feel disjointed. but even it also suffers from its fair share of lulls - particularly in season two

                Anonymous

"steering the ship" means doing prep, or at least taking prep made by the producers. judge when a topic has run its course, and bring up something else.

Chris gaya from High Society Radio is a legit ship steerer. On that show, Chris Pepper Stanley and Bronx Johnny have most of the funny lines. gaya has said his job is to "feed topics to Stanley and Johnny and let them knock it out of the park." He even has a habit of saying "hold on hold on" a lot. Every one hour podcast usually has five or six topics, and the show never drags.

if you're a Detroit person, I'd also point to Drew Lane, Marc Fellhauer, and Brandon Mcafee of the Drew & Mike show. There's a wide gap between podcasts with non-broadcasters who just start talking with no structure, and shows that know how to break up the show with different topics.

There's also shows like Cum Town, or any Nopie O&A episode, or some of the better 2 Bears 1 Cave episodes, where the hosts can let the conversation go where it goes, and it's funny and interesting. This is some magical territory, and better than well-structured radio show.

also there was the time Jay and Luis were gone so Dave Smith was the host of Legion Of bawds with Ant, Nick Mullen, and some bearded guy. Dave turned it into a Mclaughlin Group episode with Dave bringing up a news story and going around the table. It was much much better than LoS.

but it's a high-wire act, and they frequently fall off after a while
at least on a podcast you can edit it afterwards

a lot of opie's instincts were honed from older drivetime radio stuff, weren't appropriate for the quasi-podcast that the show became
so you're right, but his problem is that when he was doing it right, you didn't notice it
plus from a business perspective it's maybe wise to mollify the kind of guy who would phone up and stay on hold for hours
