Jeremy Gilfor and Scott Marder
Gilfor has been a writing assistant on Rick and Morty since 2019, but this is his first time as a writer. Scott Marder has been the co-showrunner since season 5 and his previous writing credits are Rickmurai Jack (with Jeff Loveness) and Ricktional Mortpoon's Rickmas Mortcation.
This episode will challenge Rick on his foundational belief that nothing matters when he discovers a form of an afterlife. He will treat it with irreverence and a denial of it having much meaning, but by the end it will shake him. Probably some tear jerking shit with Diane (he’ll reference the weird smelling dick for levity). Before we get to the heavy stuff, the conceit/joke of it will be that all forms of the afterlife are equally valid. He’s going to norway because he wants to go to valhalla, but it’ll get crazier as the afterlife is shown to contain all versions of itself, including the wackier ideas. tl;dr Life after death is just a silly scientific thing for Rick… until it isn’t.
Second guess, it’s a trap meant for the recently deceased, and going into the light is a bad thing. Rick WILL find Diane, but he needs to “destroy false heaven” to bust her out of this purgatory (and let her pass on). The tearjerker is neither of them truly know what’s on the other side, or if there really even is one.
Jeremy has been assisting since S4 with writing but this is his first direct credit. Marder did “Rickmurai Jack” with Loveness and “Ricktional Mortpoon's Rickmas Mortcation“ as a single credit. Also the showrunner. Bit of a wildcard team up.
>Rick WILL find Diane
But it isn't HIS diane. It's Parmeseean Rick's, who should either be with her, or suffering in the RNM version of hell for his crimes. That's alreadly the biggest issue with this episode, and also 3rd reality the show is set in after the frundles incident. It doesn't seem to acknowledge the Smiths are now in a reality where they all died, so their counterparts should all be in "heaven" too. And the problem with the second reality jump, is that it feels like the show tries to pretend it mever happened, and still act like this is universe C-131.
>And the problem with the second reality jump
3rd. They switch realities when Morty pisses off the squirrels and asks for his mind to be wiped. Let's also not forget this isn't C-137's Rick's body anyway, that body got killed when he broke out of prison, he shuffled his mind to another Rick of an unknown universe.
In short, it doesn't matter and nobody keeps track.
Same, bro.
Season 6 was a slight upswing and somehow they cratered from there. I don't understand how it happened. It wasn't even the Roiland fiasco because the season was fully written and voiced over when they fired him, so what gives?
To me, the problem is that they're incapable of just embracing their writing. Not even talking about how obnoxious Rick looking at the camera and saying how stupid it all is, but how they keep alternating between episodic nonsense but also try the serialized stories only to pussy out and then say that people are moronic for wanting serialization.
Both are fine, the problem is that they keep trying to argue that being moronic on purpose is fine because they are aware of it, and also they look down on capeshit as if they don't do generic Star Wars shit all the time.
It gets old. Fricking Family Guy has become more tolerable despite being absolute shit simply because they embrace their formula
So this episode and next weeks episode are the only ones of the season that did not show any footage in the trailer. Doesn’t look like it will be a two parter though. So next weeks episode has to set up a new major plot line to end on a cliffhanger with
I hope it's gonna end with some Cinemaphile-ass "and then Rick accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, repented for his sins, and was accepted into heaven walking into God's warm embrace".
I have already seen the episode. No I will not give a source because it give me access to next weeks early too. Here’s the tldr of importance >Rick finds a way to go to heaven >the first thing he finds after talking to god is Rick Prime plowing Diane >God has a laugh at Rick since he was rude to him >Rick Prime reveals this was his plan all along so he could win in a way that can’t be taken from him and now Rick has to live with the knowledge >episode ends with bigfoot killing Rick and him getting sent to heaven where a final clash between him and Rick Prime happens in the next episode
Agree to disagree on Spaghetti, but either way I only know what the final episode is about, not how good it is. I can say it’s a solid concept.

30 minutes left.
>either way I only know what the final episode is about, not how good it is. I can say it’s a solid concept.
I want to believe. The title reveal card looks hype anyway.
Funny you say that, by process of elimination it’s almost guaranteed that the finale is the same writer.
I've got nothing against Heather Anne Campbell as a writer (yet), just didn't care for the spaghetti premise and found Heartstring-Pulling Montage #7 eyeroll-worthy. And I thought her fortune cookie episode was one of the highlights (relatively speaking) of the last season, so she's 1-to-1 for me right now.

It's kind of the reverse for me. I didn't think that the spaghetti episode was perfect, but it was one of the highlights of this season for me, while Final Desmithation was just bland.
I am still in awe of how bad the previous episode was. Like it's surreal that it even aired. It is the kind of thing you'd expect as an April Fool's joke, but it's not April.
I worked out at 6 and read about 50 pages of a pretentious 90s artsy frick novel earlier today. I'm good. Just want the mega. >what novel
It's Underworld.
the little cube guy is like a parody of the comedic relief sidekick that every animated movie ever has except it's not a parody and is just actually that trope
>first three minutes of the episodes set up the heaven thing >cuts to ice T and the snake 7 >the rest of the episode is rest of the geometrons gag from the after-credits of the last episode
your reaction?
Those anons forgot that bigfoot was included in the season's poster and foreshadowed in the Unity episode, so they thought that bigfoot appearing confirmed the fake leak at the beginning of this thread.
>Morty given exactly ONE job >fricks it up as usual
yeah watching it currently and morty is so damn moronic. Like it's a giant monster that brutalized your grandpa also he just learned this lesson this fricking season, and every other season. He talked about taking the test and being jaded but obviously that test is for pussies. If the test said morty is a sociopath than it's wrong morty is a massive empath or idiot lol
It's originally called Rick & Morty: A Way Back Home, but there are rumors about the creator being dead or sent to prison, so the game never got finished, so someone else picked it up and has been working on finishing it.
The "remake" is called Another Way Home. Latest patch is 3.8 Part 3.
That was before the person remaking it realized he layered the pants on wrong, actually.
Also… there was a joke in this episode that was suspiciously like a joke from the game. Probably a coincidence but it’s a funny thought.
why the frick are these american adverts so fricking garbage? is this what amerigays have to put up with? >le random woman talking about an app that gets you stuck in debt >le twix advert >le santa goes to wayfair >machine washable sneakers
now that i think about it its more like a 6, the thing is: this is indeed a classic episode, we asked for it and we got it, wacky science adventures, but was it worth it?
No, that’s not what a classic episode means. There is no episode in the first two seasons that is like this.
This is closer to Sperm or bawd Dragon, wacky/goofy to be wacky and goofy (which is fine, but NOT what people are asking for when they say “classic Rick and Morty Adventures”).
Well then what the frick are you asking for? Don't just say season x or whatever describe to me exactly what kind of plot you personally think is "classic" tell me your fricking platonic ideal rick and mort adventure.
I'll use an episode like the Needful Things one >A plot is Rick getting in a pissing contest with the literal devil >uses his science to be petty and calculate how all of Needful's products screw the buyer over >Summer reveals she actually likes working for Needful despite being evil and Rick gets hurt/jealous >starts Curse Purge Plus to continue his pettiness streak >Satan gets so depressed that he tries to kill himself, and Summer ironically uses a Monkey's Paw to save him >Summer calls Rick's bluff of how interested he's in continuing his business when he knows he won and Needful is at rock bottom, which causes him to destroy his store >Summer helps Needful get successful, but shocker, the Devil screws Summer over and then plays on a fiddle >Summer comes to Rick while he's lonely and he comes up with a plan >they get fricking jacked >And then they go to one of his conferences and beat the shit out of him >Rick and Summer's arcs for the episode are resolved in a funny way that you didn't expect
And then there's the B-plot that was also funny about Plutonians platforming Jerry because he still thinks Pluto is a planet. Season 7 couldn't dream to come up with such a funny episode just based on how the characters play off each other.
brought up a good point.
It seems like in these new episodes the characterization takes a backseat so they can focus on whatever wacky plot they can come up with, but it's hard for the audience to care about these adventures if Rick and Morty barely feel like characters. They just exist to move the plot forward and have no motivation or conflict or an arc or anything that makes a character interesting. They're just props at this point.

Did therapy kill Rick's characterization?

>Did therapy kill Rick's characterization?
No, season 3 did. Starting with the premiere.
>High concept sci-fi idea (or even better, two of them split between an A-plot and B-plot) >A-plot and B-plot established in the cold open, diverge >A-plot concept first explored, ideally something that Rick and Morty have conflict on in some way, or some differing points of view, but at least means something to one or both of them (and the audience) >B-plot progresses, usually someone from the family getting in over their head, exploring their character in a funny situation >Fun progression of the A-plot, usually something goes wrong, becomes more than it first appeared >Ad break >Escalated tensions bring consequences to both the A and B plots (separately), now in a crisis situation, Rick and Morty have to work their way out of a situation while the family member only gets in worse trouble. >At some point A and B converge, leading to either a shared theme, or shared resolution, or one situation holding the key to the other >Clever/unexpected climax, the characters having learned, lost, gained or experienced something meaningful to them. >Funny after credits gag that recontextualizes something from the episode
Basically, classic Rick and Morty was all about good high concept ideas, good structure, great character interactions and clever resolutions. It’s not just “these are the serious episodes” “these are the silly episodes”.

i was going to ask the same question, if rick and morty having a wacky science adventures with no plot, just fun and nothing more isnt a classic adventure then i dont know what the hell is

Looking into a bit more, maybe the difference between season 1 and 5 is about B plots. Season 3 onward looks to focus more on an A plot where B looks to be backgrounded. With season 1 atleast, maybe Roiland's improv made it less overt?

Almost every season 1 episode was written air fricking tight. They really really knew how to structure episodes back then. The reason I say this feels like Season 5 is Season 5 is where they did a lot of “people like silly, right? That’s what classic Rick and Morty adventures mean, right?”

Maybe its the hero's journey Dan uses. If season 1 was largely improv and had Roiland more involved, that might play into it.
6/10. there were some funny moments but personally I think they should have focused on the valhalla stuff and saved "bigfoot becomes an assassin for the pope" for it's own episode because the idea sounds wacky but feels wasted here.
yeah same here. that preview has me intrigued, a horror ep that opens with the characters talking about how nothing scares them any more means there's some SCARY shit about to go down
they'll go through some "scary" maze, leave telling each other how boring it was, suddenly some villain or event threatens their lives, they barely scrape by, one of them has to sacrifice their life for the other, it's all dramatic, then reveal that the whole thing was a dream sequence and they never left the maze
season finale for showing how they react to each other when they believe their lives are in real danger
Yeah, I had the feeling that the whole "going to heaven" thing wasn't going to be the plot after the intro. On one hand, I was expecting the story to be something moronic about Space Beth fighting a bunch butt-raping aliens but somehow the plot not deviating was even worse
Always find it funny when atheist writers make religious figures buttholes, despite being complete buttholes themselves. "Aw religion makes people evil, so many people have died because of it!" Yeah yeah, and you gleefully punching people you deemed to be nazis and now scaring israeli people into hiding isn't.
>punching people you deemed to be nazis and now scaring israeli people into hiding
you could have referenced any number of atheist dictators like stalin or mao and you chose schizophrenia instead
Well that's what's current after all, dipshits flying the flag of a people that would rape and behead and burn them, not always in that order, because they're the "little guy."
atheism isn't any better
being moronic is not related to your beliefs
no, I literally opened a tab and googled it, it sounded like it was going to be an anime reference, and I was prepared for it to be misspelled, and then I saw 'homestuck' and it made me so angry that I had to respond
This is probably the weakest season yet. The only ones I've genuinely liked so far are the Jerricky and Rick Prime episodes with the Observer episode being a light amusement.
>most supposedly "classic" type of rick and morty adventure so far this season >people still shitting on it
What do you people want? I liked it, felt like they could have done more in exploring different types of afterlives besides Valhalla, but still, was pretty fun.
>most supposedly "classic" type of rick and morty adventure so far this season
They're not clever or interesting like in season 1. It's just wacky shit and violence.

Pluto being a planet worked for the era, but the devil plot might've worked because there wasn't much characterization at the time. Up until then, the closest the show got to supernatural was scary terry.
It's a mediocre episode. They took an interesting concept and just made an episode that's just ok. Like they go to Valhalla, make an MCU joke, call people in Valhalla dumb despite being correct that Valhalla is real, the Pope is a dick, this all feels rather bland by Atheist standards. > "classic" type of rick and morty adventure
Can we drop this homosexualry? Enough of this crap with serialization vs episodic adventures. Just write some fricking JOKES.
He means episodes 4, 5, 6 of season 7. I guess you could watch 5 if you care about lore stuff, and 6 for some goofs, but honestly I don't think any episode this season has been so good it's worth checking out if you've already dropped the show.
I'm just going to avoid this and subsequent seasons, entirely. I'm going to pick up on the imperfections the new voice actors are going to have for Rick and Morty, and it's going to bother me.
Good call. I got over the voices being different quicker than I thought I would. I can still tell, but I usually don't care anymore. But the writing. The writing is abysmal. I'm probably going to drop it after the season finale next week.

Idk why you think episodes are written for the season they aired in, when the after credit commentary talks about planning going back years to earlier seasons.

i think the only reason i can stand watching the new season is because the dialogue is considerably less
>M-M-M-M-MORTY WE GO-GOT-GOTSTA DO THIS(BUUUURRP)WE-WE GOTS TA DO THIS MORTY (BURRRP)
like holy shit what a massive, yet small, change to improve rick (imo)
Was like this last year too after the first 1-2 episodes.
Also reminder, 364 days ago was when AS premiered that Yule Log thing after the season finale of R&M and it took a 200ish post thread up to a 1500 post thread in a few hours
In the early season episodes, themes and plot threads were woven together really well. They're goofy adventures, but there's a solid structure and a logic underpinning them, whereas the newer ones usually feel like "and then this wacky thing happened" over and over.
In the prologue to the game, when Rick first abandons Morty, he starts throwing rocks at him and telling him to “go on, get” while Morty asks him to stop. It’s basically the same gag with bigfoot. Probably a coincidence, but, it’s a funmy thought.
The best part about the Summer naked gag is it served literally no purpose other than fanservice. Even her lingerie scene in “Lawnmower Dog” was important for the plot, this was just thrown in there for Summerbros. Based.
Did all your blood go to your dick? The Summer clone was there because they needed a third clone body for Bigfoot and Summer is the third most likely Smith to be in the Project Phoenix system.
I’m sure that’s what was said in the pitch haha. Literally given a new body immediately, it was done for the fans (that’s a cool thing by the way not a bad thing). I thought I was gonna have to wait until the anime for something like that.
Best Season since S2, insane how the Roiland parasocial fanboys keep crying when in average it has been way better than all the slop of the last years.
I agreed with you back in episode 6, but 7 and 8 were bad and 9 was mid. At this point the season is too inconsistent to have the crown, I have to give it to Season 6 if for nothing else but a little better consistency.
Nah, I'm having fun with all the episodes even the corny ones.
Maybe because the season is getting too overhated by braindead morons nitpicking on the voice of some moron who was never a good VA to begin with and just struck gold by voicing the main characters by chance, or maybe because I'm in a kinda shitty point in life, so relaxing in a sunday night watching Rick Morty being stupid fun is a healthy escapism for me.
The "open your mind" episode was the shittiest one for me, but the numbers episode was surprisingly funny despite the lack of Rick. I'm loving this season so far.
I hated more the suicide episode.
These episodes were they try to be extra deep about the meaning of life and suicide, like the piss-dude episode are the most cringy ones for me.
The voice shit is pure copium. Very few complaints about these episodes come back to the voices. At worst, people point out certain spots where the voices are noticeably off. But you don’t ever see people say “this episode was bad because of the voices”. All complaints are about the content of the episodes
>The voice shit is pure copium
Not really, the morons aren't being obvious about it because they have been getting told to frick off more and more for their weird platonic love for some sex offender they never met.
But you can't tell me with an straight face this season's hate is getting judged solely on itself, and not by these mentally ill fans behind it making every excuse possible to nitpick, when we just had the >die hard-tier episodes like last season, just because they aren't saying it, doesn't mean isn't on the back of their minds.
This season has been getting review-bombed by Roilandgays since Ep 1.
Also props for Killing Rick Prime instead of dragging that shit for 3 fricking seasons.

More cope. The actual good episodes have decent scores on IMDB while the trash ones don’t. Last weeks in particular is a pathetic 4.4.
If review bombing was real EVERY episode would have a shit score
Hugh Jackman is bottom five of the series.
Kuato is arguably bottom five of the series.
Numbericons took a bold direction (no Rick), it’s not surprising that people are mixed on it.
This last episode was just a bog standard Season 5 goof-off episode.
Jerricky had a mediocre conclusion.
Unity episode had President and Wong who are already controversial and a pretty flimsy lesson for Rick (pick up your Ex’s calls?)
Suicide Spaghetti tackles a controversial subject, was bound to be controversial.
I actually enjoy the season more than most but to chalk all the criticism up to the voices is just as unfair as the people who don’t give the show a chance because of the voices.
>people point out certain spots where the voices are noticeably off
That's part of what's keeping me from bothering to watch Season 7; based on the trailer, it doesn't look like the voice actors can imitate the same emotional range Roiland gave to the characters he voiced. Even if the new voice actors were perfect, I still wouldn't finish this season off due to the poor writing. There are some episodes in previous seasons that I wouldn't rewatch - especially most of Season 6 - because of this.
I love eating stale bread with a side of expired tuna and crap seasoning, but people that don't, are way dumber than me because...because they just are!!
lol. That's how you sound, anon. The fans for this shit are such insecure little b***he, moreso than the show's own writers.
I seriously need to rewatch RM to have a veredict, but this season is nowhere as bad as the obnoxious, RM-obsessed fans are making it out to be, the only season I remember actually finding kind trash while airing was S4 and S6.
And I actually like the new voices more, even tho they barely hit different than the old ones, they feel more distinct and unique, where as before they kinda mashed together sometimes.
>Emotional range
Dude was a literal soiboi C-tier VA that voiced meme characters.
All his other projects flopped hard because he is a talentless hack and found Gold with Rick Morty, this obsession as if the show lost an irreplaceable VA on the level of Tara Strong is insane.
Calm down, please. People dunking on your shitty VA replacements which will voicing only medicore seasons here on out instead of actually memorable shit isn't the end of the world. Unmortricken was as good as it's gonna get for them, clearly.
yeah I kind of liked this one, it felt like they had fun with it, and I liked Rick being able to bring them back from valhalla into clone bodies, that's a fun idea. I think the last two being pretty bad is doing a lot of work there by comparison but I'm not hating it
I do like to see that normies are waking up. The only people defending this seasons duds are diehard R&M gays who have built their entire identity around this show and really need it to survive
Not gonna lie, this is about the most boring direction possible for “Rick discovers the real, actual, factual afterlife”. Like, that should be a big deal and immediately leads to interesting conflict for the character, but they chose to blow it on a shitpost with bigfoot and the pope.
Yeah, that part was dumb. Only Valhalla? None others? And there's no payoff to it. It may as well just have been another dimension he keeps getting stuck in
Valhalla is not offensive to anyone. The writers are deathly afraid of offending people, which is why even their portrayal of an evil pope is milder than that of an average JRPG.
They could have easily not offended anyone by having Rick have to contend with the fact that there is an afterlife, instead of somehow spinning that revelation into “religion still silly” somehow. What a weird episode.
how come episodes don’t have B plots anymore? not that i’m complaining about the lack of beth and summer, but it’s weird how little screentime the smith family has gotten this season
>discovers that spaghetti comes from people, instead of banning rick from doing this, he goes out of his way to make this viral on their on planet, and it obviously would create a loop of people wanting to eat this spaghetti (because this is the terminator snake episode again).
>it was cute that he tried to get rick on a good mood on the observer rocks episode, but of course he had to kill of them to continue the plot.
>he is pretty much irrelevant in the numbers episode, it didn't had rick, it may as well dont have morty either.
>press the fricking red botton, press the fricking red botton, press the fricking red botton instead of trying to become friends with the beast that just killed rick. >>but but i said sorry >Then stop complaining on how rick is going to revive both > also what the frick is that joke "what is this? Judge-valhalla?" This is "illumi-what'y" levels of writing.
Didn't the latter seasons tried to turn morty into someone who is getting smart like rick? What happen to that? Maybe because without turning morty into a stupid kid, none of this episodes could have worked.
What does reddit call it? Flanderization?
People hated mini-Rick Morty so they steered away from that. Unfortunately, the new writers think that means he should be dumb instead of endearingly naive. They got Jerry right, it’s crazy to me they can’t figure out Morty.
Morty had exactly one episode this season of good characterization (Observers) and his worst characterization yet (Kuato). I think Rick has gotten better since his jump the shark moment, but I worry for the show if they still aren’t getting Morty right.
The worst episode of the classic era was Get Schwifty, but ironically those are the types of episodes we see more of whenever the modern team tries to be “oldschool”. We want Mortynight Run’s, Total Rickall’s, Meeseeks and Destroy’s, even Lawnmower Dog’s, not Purge, Heist, or Schwifty’s.
Get Schwifty has good jokes. All around perceived as one of the best eps. Total Rickall was a clusterfrick that overstayed its welcome and made Poopy Butthole into a recurring character.
It's one thing to be critical of the shit tier writing, and then there's being a jaded fan who rejects everything after season 2.
At that point it's preference. I personally think the parasite episode was full of dumb shit for tweens, and it doesn't sit right with me, but I still appreciate it for what it is. What I don't appreciate is all the season 6/7 slop like the Dinosaurs episode that technically had good things to offer, but came off as trying to entertain preteen girls.
how the frick do you take a concept like "rick goes to heaven" and end up with a bunch of shitty action sequences, fire the entire writers' room already
Yep. Actually solid fricking premise for his character specifically and it was just a mediocre goof. What a waste.
I legit was expecting some sort of something about meeting up with Diane, maybe ending up bad and causing Rick Prime's concious to tap on this energy Rick wanted so badly. But instead it was just garbage all around
Diane being a nagging AI, the car, or a giant robot is about the extent the Rick's characterization ought to ever have gone. Don't be so dense as to think it would add anything of value.
Diane is only part of it. Rick is confronting a direct refutation of his atheistic beliefs, a challenge to his claim that life is pointless, and he isn’t even conflicted by any of it.
He explains at the beginning that it's not really an afterlife but a network of consciousnesses sharing a projection. It would probably collapse or disappear if the universe it's in went cold too.
He explains at the beginning that it's not really an afterlife but a network of consciousnesses sharing a projection. It would probably collapse or disappear if the universe it's in went cold too.
Yeah I was excited to see him cope with science confronting the unexplainable. Rick discovers heaven is just such a cool concept and they used it as a backdrop for dicking around.
that's not funny because they didn't do anything with it
that seemed heavily cliche if you ask me, plus didn't they do that already (in this very same season) with Morty's churro?
the joke is that bigfoot is a regular human who doesn't want to go into the wild, the churry joke is he thought he was meeting his family of fellow sentient churros
There’s been a lot of weird cross-pollination this season. >Prime has a Kuato >Morty already had an encounter with an ape >Abandoning Churry just like Bigfoot >”Tuesday” used so often it led to theories about it >Morty’s a dog (literally and then the quote)
I was stone-faced pretty much the entire episode, only to see the writers laughing up a storm in the Inside the Episode segment that followed.
I genuinely am starting to think these writers are incapable of being naturally funny. They've been stuck in their echo chamber for so long that they've convinced themselves otherwise. You can tell when a scene is MEANT to be funny, but what good does that do when said "joke" doesn't even land? I understand that Rick and Morty will never be the same moving forward because, aside from Harmon, it's all new people managing it and in a way that's more "corporate" and "assembly line" than ever before; but it really shouldn't be that hard to just make an adventure EXCITING and ENGAGING and for the jokes and character interactions to be actually FUNNY. Even a script written in 1-2 days like Purge Planet was able to just be FUN. Please end this fricking show already. I'm growing numb to it now.
Reddit is starting to turn on it. There is a small minority of diehard defenders running downvote bot farms but even they aren’t able to drown out the warranted criticism of this season
You know it’s dire when negative takes can get traction on Reddit. I notice a lot of them try the “you hate it cause it’s not Roiland” cope and that gets downvoted pretty hard too
It doesn’t matter who is delivering these scripts, they are unfunny garbage. Roiland isn’t a magician who can make these dud plots funny by burping on them a few times. Aside from the plot dump episode 5, every episode has felt like it should have been a B plot to something else. Only Jerricky and Observers had enough meat to stand on their own, and even then, just barely
>complaints about decay have been going on since at least S5 >but no, now all criticism is purely because Roiland was fired
I genuinely wish they would have kept the Roiland voice reel for these purely because I want to see people defend these episodes without being able to lean on Roiland asshurt
They’re not. They can be clever, they can be poignant, they can even manage a good execution of a good high concept once or twice a season, but they just aren’t funny. The Observer episode was a mindfrick because it was the first episode in years that had a few actually banger jokes (not just a little funny, very funny). Not sure what happened there.
Observers was written by one of the new writers for the season, and he seems like a guy who understands comedy. That's why I'm kinda bummed that he immediately left for the boring Futurama revival right after. I feel like this could be another reason behind the show's inconsistent writing: too much turnover, but somehow the least funny new writers are the ones who've stayed.
He for sure left? Damn shame.
I’m one of the weirdos who doesn’t prioritize comedy first for this show, I care more about the character interactions and sci-fi concepts, but I can understand why so many people are put off by this season, I didn’t think the comedy could get this weak.
I watch primarily for the cool adventures and creative ideas (Jerricky and of course Unmortricken were good examples), but the jokes and comedic timing overall have taken an actual nosedive this season. It's noticeable. The way most episodes play out is also really awkward now.
This post [...] brought up a good point.
They're just props at this point.
is right. Rick and Morty feel more like props for the new writers' lame jokes. Nothing feels natural.
I think a big thing this show had early on going for it was Roiland just blurting out all his thoughts like an autist. You never hear non joke humor like this anymore
Just small chuckles. But more than the other episodes. It's not like I'm calling the episode a masterpiece. What would your vote for the best episode this season be?
I guess if that’s all you care about… did you like Season 5?
Couple of them were okay. But it probably has the worst episodes overall.
>What would your vote for the best episode this season be?
Obviously the plot episode with giant Dianes and alternate ricks delivering their archetypes. Everything about the show has been on a downward spiral since season 6.

NTA, but I disagree strongly with that characterization of the show’s trajectory. To me, Season 4/5 are the obvious low points of the series (5 more than 4). That era of the show felt like they gave up trying to elevate the material and just did anything for a cheap laugh most of the time.
Season 6/7 show more ambition with the concepts and characters, and overall I’d say they’ve handled the family better (6 moreso than 7). The only thing that is definitely, unequivocally worse in this era is the humor, the show isn’t as funny as it was in 4/5. 7 has higher highs but lower lows than 6 which was mostly pretty stable (decent to good, not great). This season had a few greats, one good, two mids and two bottom of the barrel kill it with fire episodes. I think they fixed Rick’s problems, and I really like where Jerry is at. Summer and Beth are maybe a hair better, but still pretty meh. Morty’s characterization is the big conundrum the show faces (outside of the humor) for now.

b***h if I write an episode about two gorillas buttfricking each other, a B plot about the gimp gorilla's sentient hemorrhoid isn't going to tip the scale in a non-moronic direction.

It would if the sentient hemmoroid was compelling.

No you dunce, you can't write an interesting story about a sentient ass vein just as much as you can't make diarrhea cakes a good plot device. That's why ebin die hard references will always be lame and unfunny. The idea was moronic to begin with.

Do you even remember what the B-plot was? It was fairly unrelated to the Die Hard stuff.

>the show isn’t as funny as it was in 4/5
Bingo. 4 may have been random with its ideas, but it was a funny season. 5 had some high highs but some of the show's lowest lows midway. 6/7 each have some episodes that have taken the characters in interesting directions, but my god are they unfunny. Neat ideas, awful execution. I actually have to start rethinking now if my least favorite season is 5 or 7.

>Christianity AGAIN? AFTER COWBOYS?
Chris Parnell is the best voice actor in this show and I'm tired of pretending he's not.
Anonymous
Chris Parnell is right up there with Tom Kenny and Richard Horvitz and Will Forte and Will Arnett as "voice actors whose presence on a cast list will get me to at least give the show a chance" and those specific people basically never steer me wrong. Honorary mention goes to Wendie Malick, who I only remembered from Just Shoot Me, but seeing her name made me give Owl House a shot, initially. It seemed too girly-cutesy and fantasy to be up my alley but I saw a clip of Eda and heard the voice and it was like I was a dog and someone just opened a bag of bacon bits across the house
Finally a good episode, the 2 before this one were awful specially the water T one, but i loved the moronic spare rick running around in this one and the joke after the credits was the best
it's basically only been Jerricky, Spaghetti (i'm being generous) the rick prime one, the clip show (again, generous) and this one that have been any good. The other... three? intervention, kuato, ice-t? They've all been absolute shit. This season has been rough. The best we've had has been about half of a peak episode spread out over like three different okay episodes
>bigfoot killing rick was foreshadowed in the unity episode >this has a lot of potential for storylines >the promo for this episode involves rick learning about a real afterlife >this has a lot of potential for storylines >we got this instead
disappointing tbh
Yeah, it’s more subtle than Kuato fricking up the attribute slider potential, but, I actually think it’s worse. I was really looking forward to a better episode based on the premise of Rick discovering the afterlife.
You morons STILL expect the writers to actually deliver on what they appear to be building up at the moment?
Face it: out of everything over the last 7 seasons only Evil Morty had something that even resembles a satisfying resolution.
>the divorce?
Wasted. >Rick and his friends in federation jail?
Wasted. >The rift? >Rick leaving with the crows? >Rick Prime?
Wasted, wasted, wasted.
Unironically just turn off your brain and watch the "high IQ" show, you'll be better for it.
A revenge leaving Rick and the viewer hanging and jobbing to the better villain, yes. Rick Prime existed to cause backstory and then die, that’s it.
Yeah, because their ability to deliver on one can't be indicative of their ability to deliver on the other, right?
[...]
No, he fricking wasn't. >n-no, you see, it's SUPPOSED to be dogshit because the writers want you to feel just as dissapointed as Rick
>It’s shit unless I feel le epic sauce about it regardless of tone or purpose!!!!
Decent episode, IMO. Way better than the previous two.
I probably would have liked it more if they spent more time fricking around in the afterlife and if Rick spent some time building his huge science fortress instead of just doing it off-screen, but I still enjoyed it anyway.

Expectations? Predictions?
>predictions?
bigfoot will kill Rick
with he’s dick
It really is true that Dan Harmon and his brood spreading out from community and Rick and Morty ruined Hollywood
Aw geez, Rick
If these last two episodes aren't good I'm done. This is the worst season yet and that's saying a lot.
Same, bro.
Season 6 was a slight upswing and somehow they cratered from there. I don't understand how it happened. It wasn't even the Roiland fiasco because the season was fully written and voiced over when they fired him, so what gives?
It’s just gone on for too long. Very few shows can have more than 2 seasons without visible decay
Most of them were fine. Then the Ice T episode happened. I get it. They were trying to do something new. But don't do it again.
these fricking titles
I hope it's not gonna end with some reddity-ass "and then Rick destroyed heaven".
If this episode doesn't begin with Rick saying what a piece of crap the last adventure was, I'm done with Rick and Morty for ever. I mean it.
Here’s the tldr of importance
>Rick finds a way to go to heaven
>the first thing he finds after talking to god is Rick Prime plowing Diane
>God has a laugh at Rick since he was rude to him
>Rick Prime reveals this was his plan all along so he could win in a way that can’t be taken from him and now Rick has to live with the knowledge
>episode ends with bigfoot killing Rick and him getting sent to heaven where a final clash between him and Rick Prime happens in the next episode
Unironically would be a high point of the season
>Rick gets cucked
Ok that would be good shitpost material
Funny bait, but Rick Prime isn't coming back, let alone as a resident in Heaven.
That’s hot, actualky
That's a high IQ move so I doubt it's true
I know for a fact what the next episode is about, so unfortunately not true.
Is it good at least?
They’re confident in it.
Eh, they were confident about the spaghetti episode too and it was a snoozefest.
Funny you say that, by process of elimination it’s almost guaranteed that the finale is the same writer.

nah, the other episodes have been serviceable
this one really feels like a new voice that doesn't even try to be like the original
Why is morty's wiener blur bigger than rick's?
Rick is a dicklet.
I guess pic related is canon...which makes sense due to there being infinite realities.
Why are Summer’s pants cut so low?
It's a porn game, anon...
Name?
Rick and Morty: Another Way Home
It's originally called Rick & Morty: A Way Back Home, but there are rumors about the creator being dead or sent to prison, so the game never got finished, so someone else picked it up and has been working on finishing it.
The "remake" is called Another Way Home. Latest patch is 3.8 Part 3.
That was before the person remaking it realized he layered the pants on wrong, actually.
Also… there was a joke in this episode that was suspiciously like a joke from the game. Probably a coincidence but it’s a funny thought.
I caught that too. When they threw the cans at Bigfoot telling him to go on and get I was like, is this a reference?
damn, bigfoot really wants to kill rick

The throughline is that Rick wanted to harness infinite energy but then had to give that up to prevent the pope from using it.

6/10. Nothing special, second half was much better than the first.
Frick it, I liked it better than last 2 episodes. Not the most interesting or funniest, but I was entertained
Yeah this wasn't nearly as shit as the last two.
Solid 7/10.
4 or 5/10. Weak and forgettable but not quite as low as some of the others this season.
4/10. Dull as hell and trying way too hard. A real let down after the Water-T episode.
4/10 Summer’s canonical naked ass shouldn’t have been the best thing about it.
strong 5, its just an episode
now that i think about it its more like a 6, the thing is: this is indeed a classic episode, we asked for it and we got it, wacky science adventures, but was it worth it?
This is not a classic episode. Dan and his team will never "get" Rick and Morty and apparently neither do his fans.
Well then what the frick are you asking for? Don't just say season x or whatever describe to me exactly what kind of plot you personally think is "classic" tell me your fricking platonic ideal rick and mort adventure.

It seems like in these new episodes the characterization takes a backseat so they can focus on whatever wacky plot they can come up with, but it's hard for the audience to care about these adventures if Rick and Morty barely feel like characters. >High concept sci-fi idea (or even better, two of them split between an A-plot and B-plot)
>A-plot and B-plot established in the cold open, diverge
>A-plot concept first explored, ideally something that Rick and Morty have conflict on in some way, or some differing points of view, but at least means something to one or both of them (and the audience)
>B-plot progresses, usually someone from the family getting in over their head, exploring their character in a funny situation
>Fun progression of the A-plot, usually something goes wrong, becomes more than it first appeared
>Ad break
>Escalated tensions bring consequences to both the A and B plots (separately), now in a crisis situation, Rick and Morty have to work their way out of a situation while the family member only gets in worse trouble.
>At some point A and B converge, leading to either a shared theme, or shared resolution, or one situation holding the key to the other
>Clever/unexpected climax, the characters having learned, lost, gained or experienced something meaningful to them.
>Funny after credits gag that recontextualizes something from the episode
Basically, classic Rick and Morty was all about good high concept ideas, good structure, great character interactions and clever resolutions. It’s not just “these are the serious episodes” “these are the silly episodes”.
>Escalated tensions bring consequences to both the A and B plots (separately)
>At some point A and B converge, leading to either a shared theme, or shared resolution, or one situation holding the key to the other
That might be it.
i was going to ask the same question, if rick and morty having a wacky science adventures with no plot, just fun and nothing more isnt a classic adventure then i dont know what the hell is
No, that’s not what a classic episode means. There is no episode in the first two seasons that is like this.
This is closer to Sperm or bawd Dragon, wacky/goofy to be wacky and goofy (which is fine, but NOT what people are asking for when they say “classic Rick and Morty Adventures”).
They did the most boring idea they could have ever done with 'There is an actual afterlife'

S1 tier but less spastic without the Roiland elements.
Not at all like Season 1, this was like a season 5 episode.
It followed a basic premise and didn't try for being deep. The pop culture references were milquetoast and the humor was reddit tier playing safe.
So, season 5.
7 or 8/10
6/10. there were some funny moments but personally I think they should have focused on the valhalla stuff and saved "bigfoot becomes an assassin for the pope" for it's own episode because the idea sounds wacky but feels wasted here.
wish they'd gone to other afterlifes
mid, it was an episode. Not offensively bad but zombie simpsons mid. Not something I'd bother to rewatch nor continue watching.
>Mac and Cheese wrap
That sounds horrid.
Why are these threads so inactive now?
Can't even bother getting a decent Rod Serling impressionist
>horror-themed dimension
Alright I'm intrigued, they better not frick it up
yeah same here. that preview has me intrigued, a horror ep that opens with the characters talking about how nothing scares them any more means there's some SCARY shit about to go down
they'll go through some "scary" maze, leave telling each other how boring it was, suddenly some villain or event threatens their lives, they barely scrape by, one of them has to sacrifice their life for the other, it's all dramatic, then reveal that the whole thing was a dream sequence and they never left the maze
season finale for showing how they react to each other when they believe their lives are in real danger
Was anyone else hoping this was a Rick, Morty and Jerry episode based on the preview
it's incredible how many things other than that they could have done with the plot of 'rick discovers heaven is real'
"Aw religion makes people evil, so many people have died because of it!" Yeah yeah, and you gleefully punching people you deemed to be nazis and now scaring israeli people into hiding isn't.
religion is and forever will be slop for low iq people
>religion is and forever will be slop for low iq people
glad you agree brown monkey
atheism isn't any better
being moronic is not related to your beliefs
religious people are stupid hence why they chop the tip of their penises off.
t. measly 110 iq
>punching people you deemed to be nazis and now scaring israeli people into hiding
you could have referenced any number of atheist dictators like stalin or mao and you chose schizophrenia instead
Well that's what's current after all, dipshits flying the flag of a people that would rape and behead and burn them, not always in that order, because they're the "little guy."
This.
someone please post a mirror or mega, my fricking moirail wouldnt shut up about gay people on call and made me miss the live premiere
>my fricking moirail
You don't deserve anything
Reminder that these anons all instantly knew what he meant and outed themselves as fellow Homestucks.
FRICK YOU FRICK YOU FFRICK YUO FRICK UOU DIEBDIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE
kinda karkat coded post there ngl
no, I literally opened a tab and googled it, it sounded like it was going to be an anime reference, and I was prepared for it to be misspelled, and then I saw 'homestuck' and it made me so angry that I had to respond
>"instantly knew"
>what are timestamps and Google
have a nice day
>my fricking moirail
Holy frick am I on 2013 tumblr
>my fricking moirail
fricking homestuck shit go frick yourself
I forgot all about that word... I wish it had stayed that way.
>naked morty
I was hoping Morty would incarnate in Summer next haha
Is Roiland and Harmon out of the picture now?
Isn't there already a horror themed dimension the hellraiser people came from?
mega please
>tease bigfoot at the beginning of the season
>THIS was what it was building up to
ok
This is probably the weakest season yet. The only ones I've genuinely liked so far are the Jerricky and Rick Prime episodes with the Observer episode being a light amusement.
no mega or link you all hate me you all want me to die
So we'll be seeing night shopping Jerry next episode.
>most supposedly "classic" type of rick and morty adventure so far this season
>people still shitting on it
What do you people want? I liked it, felt like they could have done more in exploring different types of afterlives besides Valhalla, but still, was pretty fun.
Hi Dan, you don’t know what a classic Rick and Morty episode even means.
>most supposedly "classic" type of rick and morty adventure so far this season
They're not clever or interesting like in season 1. It's just wacky shit and violence.
>clever or interesting
Have any specific examples?
I'll use an episode like the Needful Things one
>A plot is Rick getting in a pissing contest with the literal devil
>uses his science to be petty and calculate how all of Needful's products screw the buyer over
>Summer reveals she actually likes working for Needful despite being evil and Rick gets hurt/jealous
>starts Curse Purge Plus to continue his pettiness streak
>Satan gets so depressed that he tries to kill himself, and Summer ironically uses a Monkey's Paw to save him
>Summer calls Rick's bluff of how interested he's in continuing his business when he knows he won and Needful is at rock bottom, which causes him to destroy his store
>Summer helps Needful get successful, but shocker, the Devil screws Summer over and then plays on a fiddle
>Summer comes to Rick while he's lonely and he comes up with a plan
>they get fricking jacked
>And then they go to one of his conferences and beat the shit out of him
>Rick and Summer's arcs for the episode are resolved in a funny way that you didn't expect
And then there's the B-plot that was also funny about Plutonians platforming Jerry because he still thinks Pluto is a planet. Season 7 couldn't dream to come up with such a funny episode just based on how the characters play off each other.
Just write some fricking JOKES.
im going to go insane i need to watch it where is it someone send link
I bet 5 dollars you next episode is going to be a twilight zone parody, that guy in the preview gave off Rod Serling vibes
why has rick and morty been so bad since the pilot?
why did they force bigfoot back into the forest after giving him a human body?
It was a bit, seeing off an animal/ animalistic character returning to the wild is a cliche that they parodied
it was moronic
rick is the n****r of intelligence
Since Season 7 is almost over, I'm going to assume that it's a good thing I never watched it.
You'd be right.
You made the right call. It's somehow worse than seasons 3-6.
Watch 4-6
I've watched all of the previous seasons.
He meant episodes 4-6 which are the best of the season. I’d also say 2 is worth a watch.
I'm just going to avoid this and subsequent seasons, entirely. I'm going to pick up on the imperfections the new voice actors are going to have for Rick and Morty, and it's going to bother me.
Well, at least you’re not contributing to the endless stream of doomposting, I’d much rather people drop more than b***h.
He means episodes 4, 5, 6 of season 7. I guess you could watch 5 if you care about lore stuff, and 6 for some goofs, but honestly I don't think any episode this season has been so good it's worth checking out if you've already dropped the show.
So were we robbed by having Bigfoot getting a custom body instead of sticking to the Summer clone? Also, has Summer also been replaced by a clone?
Summer being a secret anime fan would actually be good because she'd have some consistent characterization for once.
Whoa there calm down mega satan
she literally named her incest baby Naruto
Which is why there is somewhere to grow on the concept of her being a secret weeb
It would also explain why her mind oddly goes to brother/sister incest more than it should. She’s probably aware of the trope.
Nah, we got just the right amount of fanservice. I’m satisfied with what we got.
If Morty decided to get with SummerFoot, would it be incest or beastiality?
Ep posted where
i think the only reason i can stand watching the new season is because the dialogue is considerably less
>M-M-M-M-MORTY WE GO-GOT-GOTSTA DO THIS(BUUUURRP)WE-WE GOTS TA DO THIS MORTY (BURRRP)
like holy shit what a massive, yet small, change to improve rick (imo)
Rick hasn’t sounded like that since Season 3.
That style of improv dialogue has been dead since season 3, though. Personally I miss it, it made Rick seem unhinged rather than a grouchy scientist.
I wish king jellybean had plapped morty
>We got to see Summer naked before Beth
Based pervs
so morty gets to walk around naked all the time but summer cant show her ass for like 3 frames before getting a coat thrown over her
Black person be happy they’re still throwing us bones. That whole gag was completely superfluous, it was done just for us.
Where that summer side boob be at?
These threads are slow as frick this year. It's truly over.
Was like this last year too after the first 1-2 episodes.
Also reminder, 364 days ago was when AS premiered that Yule Log thing after the season finale of R&M and it took a 200ish post thread up to a 1500 post thread in a few hours
Do you think they'll do another Christmas special this year?
>Do you think they'll do another Christmas special this year?
Not happening.
Nope. They are going to beat the shit out of Yule Log reruns though
mega please
Why do you guys jerk off to Summer so much? She isn’t even that attractive
I like that she is average. Years of porn has made it hard to me to get hard for hot girls
Why not? She’s cute, has a sexy voice and when she’s not written by a woman, an appealing personality.
My older sister is a redhead and I project my incest fantasies onto Summer
You mean jerry in a redhead wig
post mega
idk what happened to meganon, but it's already up on kimcartoon
In the early season episodes, themes and plot threads were woven together really well. They're goofy adventures, but there's a solid structure and a logic underpinning them, whereas the newer ones usually feel like "and then this wacky thing happened" over and over.
It heavily reminds me of nu Ren and Stimpy where they think whacky gross shit and violence=funny
everything was fine and then this homosexual showed up
you smashed your bell didn't you? such seething hatred for the black guy with two seconds screen time
Did you catch the joke the real life show now shares with the game?
I'm never going to watch Season 7.
which was that?
In the prologue to the game, when Rick first abandons Morty, he starts throwing rocks at him and telling him to “go on, get” while Morty asks him to stop. It’s basically the same gag with bigfoot. Probably a coincidence, but, it’s a funmy thought.
You do realize that bit is like 50 years old right? R&M didn’t invent that
hot
The best part about the Summer naked gag is it served literally no purpose other than fanservice. Even her lingerie scene in “Lawnmower Dog” was important for the plot, this was just thrown in there for Summerbros. Based.
Did all your blood go to your dick? The Summer clone was there because they needed a third clone body for Bigfoot and Summer is the third most likely Smith to be in the Project Phoenix system.
I'm genuinely surprised he didn't have a Beth clone on-file for this eventuality but I think the logic is sound.
I’m sure that’s what was said in the pitch haha. Literally given a new body immediately, it was done for the fans (that’s a cool thing by the way not a bad thing). I thought I was gonna have to wait until the anime for something like that.
and it was summer only once, the rest of the time it was the fat buff guy. So, why did it need to be summer just that one time? Fan service
Bigfoot Summer > Regular Summer
I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself but I still think the show should, and can be better than this. That said I think the finale will be good.
The voice shit is pure copium. Very few complaints about these episodes come back to the voices. At worst, people point out certain spots where the voices are noticeably off. But you don’t ever see people say “this episode was bad because of the voices”. All complaints are about the content of the episodes
Yep.
If Roiland voiced these episodes I would have the exact same complaints. This episodes are not good and the voicework is not the reason for that
>people point out certain spots where the voices are noticeably off
That's part of what's keeping me from bothering to watch Season 7; based on the trailer, it doesn't look like the voice actors can imitate the same emotional range Roiland gave to the characters he voiced. Even if the new voice actors were perfect, I still wouldn't finish this season off due to the poor writing. There are some episodes in previous seasons that I wouldn't rewatch - especially most of Season 6 - because of this.
Because they can’t. The new VAs had to be plucked from the union so they had to settle for good enough
I love eating stale bread with a side of expired tuna and crap seasoning, but people that don't, are way dumber than me because...because they just are!!
lol. That's how you sound, anon. The fans for this shit are such insecure little b***he, moreso than the show's own writers.
Roiland was still employed when these episodes were written. He recorded all these episodes. These episodes are bad regardless
Rick and Morty's voices meshing together sometimes was something I liked. I was hoping that someday they'd do something big with it.
Seasons ranking
2 > 1 >>> 3 >> 4 ≥ 6 >>> 5 > 7
Episode rankings this season
Observers (mid) > Rick Prime >> Jerricky > Valhalla > Spaghetti > Unity 2 >> Kuato > Numbericons = Poopy Buthhole (dogshit)
Unironically agree with you, season 3 onwards was just the beginning of the end. Some episodes were bangers but overall it was a garbage season.
Wow next ones the finale already
>Emotional range
Dude was a literal soiboi C-tier VA that voiced meme characters.
All his other projects flopped hard because he is a talentless hack and found Gold with Rick Morty, this obsession as if the show lost an irreplaceable VA on the level of Tara Strong is insane.
So, you're telling me you had no problems with Tracy Morgan replacing Norm MacDonald as Pigeon?
Tara Strong is even more of a hack
also she supports israel which is a red flag, honestly
So does Rick. No one cares.
Your have absolutely zero media literacy if you think Rick supports Israel. He started virtue signalling like mad to hide his anti-semetic beliefs.
Calm down, please. People dunking on your shitty VA replacements which will voicing only medicore seasons here on out instead of actually memorable shit isn't the end of the world. Unmortricken was as good as it's gonna get for them, clearly.
I liked this episode. It was just a fun concept with some bits that made me smile. Wish the rest of the season was like this.
a good episode finally
yeah I kind of liked this one, it felt like they had fun with it, and I liked Rick being able to bring them back from valhalla into clone bodies, that's a fun idea. I think the last two being pretty bad is doing a lot of work there by comparison but I'm not hating it
You never needed a high IQ to appreciate Rick and Morty but the show has gotten dumber recently.

Correct order except for episode 8 which should be mid and Episode 9 but the score is always overinflated on release day. Good job normies.
That would be offensive to atheists, who are now the most sensitive of all.
JRPG "evil Church" has to be the most ricecel trope to ever exist; it absolutely reeks of fear and reverse-orientalism of the West.
Rick and Morty's goofy pope hardly seems much different from the goofy black guy president.
observers > spaghetti > rick prime > jerricky > this one > air force wong > hugh jackman > kuato > numericons
how come episodes don’t have B plots anymore? not that i’m complaining about the lack of beth and summer, but it’s weird how little screentime the smith family has gotten this season
This episode had a B plot, but only in the first half before it merged with the main plot.
This episode proved B plot can't salvage the trainwreck if the writing is utter shit and R&M's presence is only there to drive the plot.
nu-rick and morty has a lot of episodes with plots that are disorganized and all over the place. harmon needs to fire his writers.
Unfortunately the worst writer is a producer and one of the worst is a co-showrunner.
At the very least he needs to let the girl go that wrote Kuato.
Morty has become incredibly stupid.
>discovers that spaghetti comes from people, instead of banning rick from doing this, he goes out of his way to make this viral on their on planet, and it obviously would create a loop of people wanting to eat this spaghetti (because this is the terminator snake episode again).
>it was cute that he tried to get rick on a good mood on the observer rocks episode, but of course he had to kill of them to continue the plot.
>he is pretty much irrelevant in the numbers episode, it didn't had rick, it may as well dont have morty either.
>press the fricking red botton, press the fricking red botton, press the fricking red botton instead of trying to become friends with the beast that just killed rick.
>>but but i said sorry
>Then stop complaining on how rick is going to revive both
> also what the frick is that joke "what is this? Judge-valhalla?" This is "illumi-what'y" levels of writing.
Didn't the latter seasons tried to turn morty into someone who is getting smart like rick? What happen to that? Maybe because without turning morty into a stupid kid, none of this episodes could have worked.
What does reddit call it? Flanderization?
People hated mini-Rick Morty so they steered away from that. Unfortunately, the new writers think that means he should be dumb instead of endearingly naive. They got Jerry right, it’s crazy to me they can’t figure out Morty.
There should be a balance between the two. Having him be mini-Rick was too far in one direction. But now they have made him completely moronic
>Get Schwifty is one of the best episodes
>Total Rickall is a clusterfrick
Spicy fricking take for sure.
And no, there are plenty of gems after S3E1 jumped the shark, but the Schwifty-style shitpost episodes are not among them.
At that point it's preference. I personally think the parasite episode was full of dumb shit for tweens, and it doesn't sit right with me, but I still appreciate it for what it is. What I don't appreciate is all the season 6/7 slop like the Dinosaurs episode that technically had good things to offer, but came off as trying to entertain preteen girls.
>frankenstein wasn't the same one from total rickall
cringe
>b-but he was a parasite!
don't care
The seasons is suffering badly from not having B-plots. The last three episodes all should have been B-plots.
how the frick do you take a concept like "rick goes to heaven" and end up with a bunch of shitty action sequences, fire the entire writers' room already
How could she be in heaven if she was erased from existence across all dimensions?
We don’t know what heaven entails.
Yeah I was excited to see him cope with science confronting the unexplainable. Rick discovers heaven is just such a cool concept and they used it as a backdrop for dicking around.
I did laugh a lot at Survival Mode Clone Rick
You hyped me for a two parter season finale you fricks.
Xavier Renegade Angel did more with the scamming heaven concept in 1 minute than this episode did in 20.
It feels weird to actually laugh at something after all of season 7 with precisely 0 laughs.
Summer has Jerry's butt
Obsessed
Why is project phoenix functional again? I thought the writers got rid of it because it removed all stakes.
ok i liked the ending when they're sending bigfoot back into the wild, that's funny
so that's two jokes along with the pope first talking to bigfoot, basically on par for season 7
That and the first 5 seconds when Jerry was going to heaven, after which it proceeded to turn into the regular slop.
that's not funny because they didn't do anything with it
the joke is that bigfoot is a regular human who doesn't want to go into the wild, the churry joke is he thought he was meeting his family of fellow sentient churros
that seemed heavily cliche if you ask me, plus didn't they do that already (in this very same season) with Morty's churro?
I don't know why people say that. It was a different joke.
There’s been a lot of weird cross-pollination this season.
>Prime has a Kuato
>Morty already had an encounter with an ape
>Abandoning Churry just like Bigfoot
>”Tuesday” used so often it led to theories about it
>Morty’s a dog (literally and then the quote)
Somehow there's redditors who find this shit the pinnacle of comedy though, so as long as they preach to the choir they think it's fine.
Reddit is starting to turn on it. There is a small minority of diehard defenders running downvote bot farms but even they aren’t able to drown out the warranted criticism of this season
Pack it up, Harmon.
You know it’s dire when negative takes can get traction on Reddit. I notice a lot of them try the “you hate it cause it’s not Roiland” cope and that gets downvoted pretty hard too
It’s true though, y’all are just mad your guy finally got caught and got what was coming to him
Stop trying to bait with Roiland, it’s stupid.
homosexual most of the people watching this show don't know who roiland is
It doesn’t matter who is delivering these scripts, they are unfunny garbage. Roiland isn’t a magician who can make these dud plots funny by burping on them a few times. Aside from the plot dump episode 5, every episode has felt like it should have been a B plot to something else. Only Jerricky and Observers had enough meat to stand on their own, and even then, just barely
>complaints about decay have been going on since at least S5
>but no, now all criticism is purely because Roiland was fired
The way most episodes play out is also really awkward now.
is right. Rick and Morty feel more like props for the new writers' lame jokes. Nothing feels natural.

I think a big thing this show had early on going for it was Roiland just blurting out all his thoughts like an autist. You never hear non joke humor like this anymore
Alright, this episode was probably the best one this season so far.
How?
Because I laughed more than I have in every other episode?
I guess if that’s all you care about… did you like Season 5?
How the frick do you laugh at something with so little comedic value
Just small chuckles. But more than the other episodes. It's not like I'm calling the episode a masterpiece. What would your vote for the best episode this season be?

When I think about it, S6 was just as cancerous as this one if not more.
Die Hard had a good b-plot. Way better than Kuato.
The rest sounds like a you problem.
Motherfricker your goddamn b-plots don't do shit to improve bad writing.
It does when only half the episode is uninteresting instead of the whole episode.
b***h if I write an episode about two gorillas buttfricking each other, a B plot about the gimp gorilla's sentient hemorrhoid isn't going to tip the scale in a non-moronic direction.
It was fairly unrelated to the Die Hard stuff.
yes but the episode still sucked, the show became what it made fun of in the past
>an endless series of callbacks
>the show isn’t as funny as it was in 4/5
It seemed too girly-cutesy and fantasy to be up my alley but I saw a clip of Eda and heard the voice and it was like I was a dog and someone just opened a bag of bacon bits across the house
watch it without being high next time
But it wasn’t very funny…
What are you guys talking about? Reddit is fellating this episode, calling multiple jokes "hilarious".
Reddit is desperate to call this episode good because they hated last episode.
Finally a good episode, the 2 before this one were awful specially the water T one, but i loved the moronic spare rick running around in this one and the joke after the credits was the best
Naked Summer was the highlight of the episode.
Best to worst:
>Prime
>Spaghetti
>Observers
>Jerricky
>Bigfoot and the Pope
>Unity 2
>Water T
>Kuato
>Hugh Jackman
You guys loved Spaghetti that much?
Yes, I genuinely think it’s among the best modern era episodes.
R&M threads haven't produced megas all season.
great episode + naked summer as a bonus. I'm a happy man
The moment the brought back B plot the quality of the episode skyrocketed.
How many more episodes does this season have? I'm waiting for them to all be out before I bother downloading and watching them
only season 1 had 11 episodes so take a guess
This is by far the best episode of the season, which is a surprise to noone since this season has been god awful
You’re an insane person.
it's basically only been Jerricky, Spaghetti (i'm being generous) the rick prime one, the clip show (again, generous) and this one that have been any good. The other... three? intervention, kuato, ice-t? They've all been absolute shit. This season has been rough. The best we've had has been about half of a peak episode spread out over like three different okay episodes
I want Summer Smith to sit on my face.
well yeah, you have eyes and taste. Also, double-dubs. Radical.
Dude. She is underage.
And I am a chair.
Yep.
wow they really gave her kind of a caked up dumper. I'm into it.
second half was extremely weak it was just the same joke over and over for no reason felt like they didn't know how to fill time
You can see Morty’s character development because he didn’t react in disgust at the sight of his sister’s naked, wet body.
>bigfoot killing rick was foreshadowed in the unity episode
>this has a lot of potential for storylines
>the promo for this episode involves rick learning about a real afterlife
>this has a lot of potential for storylines
>we got this instead
disappointing tbh
Yeah, it’s more subtle than Kuato fricking up the attribute slider potential, but, I actually think it’s worse. I was really looking forward to a better episode based on the premise of Rick discovering the afterlife.
This, you could have sent the plot in a thousand different ways but instead you have
>le religion...is dumb
>le pope...is le bad
You'd think atheists who don't care about being offensive or incororect would be able to write *better* plots about religion, but nope.
>Captcha: WH02R
Two separate things. You’re talking about the overarching plot, we’re talking about delivering on the potential of an episode.
Yeah, because their ability to deliver on one can't be indicative of their ability to deliver on the other, right?
No, he fricking wasn't.
>n-no, you see, it's SUPPOSED to be dogshit because the writers want you to feel just as dissapointed as Rick
Rick Prime was handled exactly as it should have been.
with Evil Morty doing all the work?
A revenge leaving Rick and the viewer hanging and jobbing to the better villain, yes. Rick Prime existed to cause backstory and then die, that’s it.
>It’s shit unless I feel le epic sauce about it regardless of tone or purpose!!!!
Uh oh he used the nono word.
Decent episode, IMO. Way better than the previous two.
I probably would have liked it more if they spent more time fricking around in the afterlife and if Rick spent some time building his huge science fortress instead of just doing it off-screen, but I still enjoyed it anyway.
