Rick and Morty feels like something that wouldn't have existed in the pre-2016 era. It has all that raunchiness and cynicism that you really only see nowadays. It feels weird thinking about how something like that was around just when social media took off and changed everything for the worse.

this, the first season felt really fresh and unique, and irreverent
it must have been a similar feeling to how Simpsons felt to people when it first came out
the decline of R&M started already in season 2 but it coasted on the popularity of S01 and there were some good episodes still.
S03 was dead on arrival and its been steady downhill since then.

I tried re-watching Rick and Morty last night to show it to my gf who had never seen it. We both almost immediately came to the conclusion that it is irredeemable slop. I genuinely can't tell what people enjoy about it, it's so bad that it actually gets on my nerves
