hell yass, Tolkien wrote Gaaldriel as a moody rebellious teenager running around with a sword, and everyone that disagrees is simply wrong!
I also heard it from good sources that he always meant for her to be fricking around and have several one-night stands with a charming human rogue, I am really glad that Amazon decided to include that forgotten part of Tolkiens legacy in their hit show, which by the way looks amazing.

Nobody on earth wants to see women in armor fighting.
            Men dont and women dont.
It goes against their archetypical hero myths.

At least they are making her seem vulnerable, or at least they are decreasing the power of the elves. I always had the impression that elves like Galadriel, Fingolfin, Finrod, and Fëanor were basically superheros.

That troll or whatever she's fighting couldn't even scratch her and she could essentially just flip her wrist and the sword would blow the troll in half. (I mean, these elves fight mountain sized dragons)

        >Destruction of the Two Trees
Likely because they are starting in Valinor and in the age of the trees so they need to show what happened that led to Galadriel and co leaving for middle earth and why there is a sun now.
        >War of Wrath
Also pretty likely because it leads directly into the events of the show. Kind of like the last alliance to the books/movie except shorter time has passed.
        >Glaurung and Turin Turambar
Unlikely but since they are doing Dagor Bragollach Glaurung could make an appearance
        >Balrogs 1v1ing Elven Lords?
Not some of the more famous instances but there will be balrogs in the Dagor Bragollach scene, this was confirmed by leaks

She's a lot older than Elrond, he was basically a child right at the end of the First Age whereas she saw the Kinslaying, crossing of the Helcaraxe, wars of Beleriand etc etc

But Elrond fought in the War of Wrath while she was headed away from the fighting. She has not witnessed personally as much as Elrond. She is only ever stated to be present for the first kinslaying, which has very little to do with the current conflict.

      > Before the crossing of the mountains the Hobbits had already become divided into three somewhat different breeds: Harfoots, Stoors, and Fallohides. The Harfoots were browner of skin, smaller, and shorter, and they were beardless and bootless; their hands and feet were neat and nimble; and they preferred highlands and hillsides. The Stoors were broader, heavier in build; their feet and hands were larger, and they preferred flat lands and riversides. The Fallohides were fairer of skin and also of hair, and they were taller and slimmer than the others; they were lovers of trees and of woodlands.

      > The Harfoots had much to do with Dwarves in ancient times, and long lived in the foothills of the mountains. They moved westward early, and roamed over Eriador as far as Weathertop while the others were still in the Wilderland. They were the most normal and representative variety of Hobbit, and far the most numerous.

Harfoots probably interbred until they were a uniformly "browner" skin tone

Darker of skin doesn't equate Blacks and abbos. Hobbits are based on british peoples. They had zero contact with hypothetical lotr Blacks, if they even exist in middle-earth. Tolkien never mentioned them.

          Anonymous

You'll never get through the shills conditioning with this argument. That Tolkien was writing in an era when English authors saying someone was 'dark' meant 'dark of hair and eye', 'brown' meant 'tanned' and even 'swarthy' meant basically Mediterranean colouring. On the rare occasions when early 20th century English writers mentioned black people at all, they'd call them black (or very often, Black).
Common sense, and understanding of changing literary practices means nothing in the face of such rigid brainwashing.

        >Tharâkh Bazân is a most unusual wonder to find beneath the roots of a mountain. It is more commonly known as 'Durin's Garden', for Durin himself ordered it built so that any dwarf might come here and be reminded of the wider sun-lit world beyond the bounds of Moria. Clever constructs of polished metal and crystal guide light down from far above to grant life here, beneath the mountain. It seems that the evil things that now infest Moria likewise find this light uncomfortable, for among all the works of the dwarves, Tharâkh Bazân remains relatively unmarred by their ravages.

Almost all the 1st age stuff is Galadriel related and the show will start in Valinor with a young-young Galadriel (+ Finrod) so much of the 1st age stuff happens in sequence from there.

S1 is setup in terms of them trying to make it clear why the people of middle earth would fall for Sauron's deception. The showrunner have said that the main themes of the show is 'the fear of death and a desire to live forever' so they want to setup how this applies to the different races of middle earth

Like the Numenoreans is easy, they literally want to live forever
The elves don't want their kingdoms to fade or be lost to war like they were in the past
The dwarves want endless treasures so they can sustain their greatest kingdoms

So there you have a situation where some manipulator can come in, play on these fears and offer them something that ends up being too good to be true and that's where Sauron comes in

I really wanted to get chills... But the problem with this is that they lack the underlying moral foundation that the lotr universe has. All this show has is good scenery. Good landscapes and cities. Some of the costumes are even good but they actors are ugly so they ruin it. They are ruining all the archetypes so this won't have the depth and power to it as the original. It will look good on the surface but since its designed to force a political message of equality and social justice the story will be thin. Its as nihilistic as devoid of values as our current society.

Galadriel saying to Elrond 'you haven't seen what I have seen' refers to her witnessing the destruction of the two trees by Morgoth.
She's experienced a time of peace just for her world to be turned upside-down overnight be the re-emergence of evil.

Everybody else around her thinks evil has been vanquished for good after the War of Wrath, she doesn't trust/believe this to be true and she's experienced the result of this type of complacency while living in Valinor

No one saw Morgoth and Ungoliant destroy the trees.
She's probably just referring to the shit that went down in the FA when Morgoth began steam rolling the Noldor. Which is stupid as she left Beleriand before the fall of Nargothrond. But the authors are hacks and pushing teh "warrior Galadriel" notion so they'll probably make it so she fought in some of these battles.

Eru Ilúvatar. That's the name of the creator figure. He's straight up the Christian God.

        Anonymous

The trees were created by one of the main gods, called Yavanna
At this time there is no sun or moon so she created them to give light to the world (well just the part she lived in lel). Some of the elves in Tolkiens work got to live among the gods (Galadriel was one of these lucky ones) and they would revere the trees as holy creations, which they were.
Being born under their light was like the highest privilege any elf could hope for so they mean alot to these elves.

Eru Illuvatar is the creator god and to help him sing creation into existence he made a pantheon of spirits. The most powerful rank being called the Valar and the second rank of lesser spirits called the Maiar.
When the world was made it was lit only by the stars. This was when the elves first awoke and because of this stars are very important to their culture.
After some time the Two Lamps were created, one in the North, one in south; One bright gold, the other silver. They were mounted on mountainous pillars and they both shone constantly.
Melkor, a chaotic and asynchronous Valar who railed against creation and the harmony of Eru, destroyed the Two Lamps.
The Two Trees of Valinor were grown afterwards as a replacement and this time they were right next to each other, and would alternate their lights so one shone for half of the 12 hour day and the other shone for the remainder.
Melkor destroyed the trees of light.
Then from the last fruits of the trees the Sun and the Moon were created and they were put high into the sky far from the reach of Melkor, and carried by two Maiar spirits forever in motion.
By the time the Sun and moon were created humans had awoken.

Thanks, anons. That's actually a really cool story

He's seen some shit but come on bro that's not accurate at all. Galadriel experienced the destruction of the two trees, was a participant in the 1st kinslaying where she witnessed Feanor slaughter her mothers people and spent 144 years travelling across a frozen hellscape while others she knew died around her, just to then get jumped by orcs right at the end.
This is all before she even got to middle earth and way before that zoomer was born

The War of Wrath sunk fricking Beleriand. It was far worse and more destructive than any of that.
And, depending on the version, Galadriel may not have even traveled across the Helcaraxe. The version all the warriorgays use where she fought alongside the Teleri has her sailing to Beleriand with Celeborn.

Are you moronic? Can you not read a post? I didn't say these were "trivial events" only that the WoW was worse.
And no, absolutely nothing indicates he would have Galadriel take part in the WoW. lmao talk about headcanon. But we do have Tolkien straight up mentioning that she left Beleriand long before the war.

                >But we do have Tolkien straight up mentioning that she left Beleriand long before the war.
In one version, in another she is present in Beleriand during the war of wrath and its stated the reason she didn't participate in the prior wars against Angband is because she thought it to be 'hopeless without the aid of the valar'
What do you think Tolkien meant by adding this line, anon, you need me to spell out the implications to you or you just going to ignore and seethe some more? 🙂

Dude, the War of Wrath was by far the most horrific thing to happen in Arda history.
Galadriel was over the mountains for it's entirety while Elrond was an orphaned child who lived through it.

Their experiences are hard to compare but Elrond is not the character to play the "I've seen more fricked up shit than you" card.

See above, you are just choosing to go with the version where she wasn't in Beleriand where in other versions she was. There are multiple versions of Galadriels story and it was such a mess that not even Christopher Tolkien could work it out exactly what she got up for much of her life.

                Anonymous

As far as I'm aware, there is absolutely no version where it's mentioned she stayed in Beleriand. In fact, in the very version you mentioned, she departs before:
                >In the years after they did not join in the war against Angband, which they judged to be hopeless under the ban of the Valar and without their aid; and their counsel was to withdraw from Beleriand and to build up a power to the eastward (whence they feared that Morgoth would draw reinforcement), befriending and teaching the Dark Elves and Men of those regions. But such a policy having no hope of acceptance among the Elves of Beleriand, Galadriel and Celeborn departed over Ered Lindon before the end of the First Age

                Anonymous

                >there is absolutely no version where it's mentioned she stayed in Beleriand.
Read her chapters in Unfinished Tales, in fact all the later versions she stays in Beleriand
                >She did not go West at the Downfall of Melkor, but crossed Ered Lindon and came into Eriador.
Christopher also said that she would have been present at the Ruin of Doriath

But all of this is kind of just biting around the edges of the point - pic rel
The show has to do something with her, she's one of the three most important eldar in middle earth history and even Christopher Tolkien didn't know what his father was doing with her most of the time

I have. The quote I brought up is from UT and is actually mentioned as being from the very last version Tolkien wrote. Even the one you brought up could be interpreted as her leaving beforehand.
Regardless, it's a moot point as the only version that JRRT actually published has her leaving "ere the fall of Nargothrond or Gondolin". The only argument against it is a specific reading of a single line.

Whatever may yet come to pass Manwë along may know and it is not revealed in the books of Mandos.
There is however versions of a Final Battle (Dagor Dagorath) where Morgoth returns to Arda and destroys it; with Túrin and Eonwe slaying him forever. I Believe the latest commemorative version of The Silmarillion begin with a statement of a scholar, comparing said battle with the Apocalypse in the Bible (again don't have the book in hand).

The fact that he didn't include the second prophecy. The chapter on Aulë contradicts the lack of knowledge of the end of the world that's said in the last passage of the Quenta Silmarillion.

not him, but it really feels like Christopher didn't like it, so he cut it
                wouldn't be the first time.
for example, there are rumors that Tolkien wrote at least 3 possible origin stories for the orcs, but Christopher didn't like the theological implications of the other ones and cut them out, leaving only transformed elves.

They knocked it out of the park with the visuals. It's a shame that this has to be wasted on a production that doesn't give a shit about Tolkien's writing.

      Anonymous

Some of the visuals are good. Most fall apart when you look past the smoke and mirrors even a little bit. Like the dwarven kingdom. May be nice on a superficial glance but then you remember these are dwarves at the height of their civilization, filthy rich with mithril. So why is everything so dull and boring? Just look at the pig iron crown their king is wearing.

        Anonymous

The discovery of mithril is literally a plot point for the dwarven storyline. They are not filthy rich yet

They compressed that millenium into some 20 years so they don't have to throw away their human actors and replace them with new roles. I would be surprised if there were even a single scene that depicts humans aging and dying while elves stay young.

Half of that billion went into purchasing the rights and another quarter goes into massive astroturfing campaigns. Leaves little left for the actual series. And it shows.

This concept is so dumb, because its literally fan-fiction , playing off the Tolkien name. There is litterally nothing new to show other than fan fiction.

Again, even male warrior elves were not bulky.
Also, quote the part where she engages in these "athletic feats".

he did. he released almost everything

I meant together with the silmarillion, not as another book 30 years later. That shit always pissed me off,
Why does the children of hurin even exist?

            >Jesus these people are fricking moronic, why wold they fatten her up on purpose?
their target demographic is liberal white women in their 20s (they assumed that men will be on board anyways because of le brand lmao, same shit as with Star Wars).
they can't have the actress be too attractive, or their target audience will feel threatened and won't watch the show.
so you cast a rat-man and fatten her up.

This does not look special in the least. Showing a bunch of people spouting aphorisms tells me nothing about the story, who the characters are, who the antagonist is. In fact it doesn't feel epic at this point. I have a feeling this will be some generic fantasy with a well-loved IP slapped on top, like Halo.
