The showrunner have said that the main themes of the show is 'the fear of death and a desire to live forever' so they want to setup how this applies to the different races of middle earth

I really wanted to get chills... But the problem with this is that they lack the underlying moral foundation that the lotr universe has. All this show has is good scenery. Good landscapes and cities. Some of the costumes are even good but they actors are ugly so they ruin it. They are ruining all the archetypes so this won't have the depth and power to it as the original. It will look good on the surface but since its designed to force a political message of equality and social justice the story will be thin. Being born under their light was like the highest privilege any elf could hope for so they mean alot to these elves.
Eru Illuvatar is the creator god and to help him sing creation into existence he made a pantheon of spirits. The most powerful rank being called the Valar and the second rank of lesser spirits called the Maiar.
When the world was made it was lit only by the stars. This was when the elves first awoke and because of this stars are very important to their culture.
After some time the Two Lamps were created, one in the North, one in south; One bright gold, the other silver. They were mounted on mountainous pillars and they both shone constantly.
Melkor, a chaotic and asynchronous Valar who railed against creation and the harmony of Eru, destroyed the Two Lamps.
The Two Trees of Valinor were grown afterwards as a replacement and this time they were right next to each other, and would alternate their lights so one shone for half of the 12 hour day and the other shone for the remainder.
Melkor destroyed the trees of light.
Then from the last fruits of the trees the Sun and the Moon were created and they were put high into the sky far from the reach of Melkor, and carried by two Maiar spirits forever in motion.
By the time the Sun and moon were created humans had awoken.

May be nice on a superficial glance but then you remember these are dwarves at the height of their civilization, filthy rich with mithril. So why is everything so dull and boring? Just look at the pig iron crown their king is wearing.
The discovery of mithril is literally a plot point for the dwarven storyline. They are not filthy rich yet
