Well Rebel Moon was overhyped, expensive, and vastly underdelivered. But ROP is waaaay better than RM. If ROP is like a 7-8/10 like it is then RM is easily a 4/10. I'd even say aspects of ROP are better than the LOTR movies.

Nope. I just like some aspects of LOTR that weren't present in the movie, such as the theology and mythology of middle earth. There is pretty much zero theology or reference to spirits in the LOTR movies the closest we get is some spoken lines with no shown reference point, the shadowy parts where the ring is worn, and the cringe ghost army.
Comparatively in ROP we get a lot about the theology and mythology of middle earth, with people having mature conversations about topics like life and death, time well spent, friendship, etc. You actually get the distinct impression from ROP that the physical world is a thin veneer over a spiritual world and that spiritual forces are the primary factors at play, which you don't get from LOTR.

I was actually willing to give it some slack because I'm very into LOTR and wanted to see the second age in live action, but it tanked even my low expectations. I refuse to believe anyone who was a part of this project had any passion whatsoever for the source material. You can feel it in the original trilogy, but there's none of that present in amazon's corporate garbage.
What is it with recent fantasy series having the most unhinged, worst narratives possible despite having great source material to draw from? The witcher, wheel of time, and now rings of power all suffer from the same issues and many of them stem from the writers room.
Now that Chris is dead the IP is going to be raped beyond all recognition and RoP is only the beginning.
