I think the main issue is that it had too many characters and most people just wanted resolutions for the season 1 cast. After Wally never came back and Artemis got engaged to Barbara's ex I think alot of people gave up on the series.

So many years of nerds hailing him as a god tier writer of art. as if writing a basic c-grade book plot isn’t enough to be held as a masterpiece of tv animation. Yes, Gargoyles was pretty good. It was not high art and the show had plenty of flaws. Every time he got a new, canceled show his sycophants would come out the woodwork and say, he woulda, coulda if only this poor, oppressed, misunderstood genius could be given another season! Well he got two here and he fricking squandered any good will the show had.
