Jack turned down The Godfather because he thought it should be an Italian but in reality he seethed over passing it up and hated Pacino for not thanking him in passing it up.
You forgot Apocalypse Now, he turned the leading role too >Riding high on the massive success of his Oscar-winning performance in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and steady takeover as Hollywood's brightest star, Jack Nicholson was offered the lead role of Willard and was heavily considered for Kurtz but ultimately turned down both parts.
Deckard would be good. Rest not so much. I'm sure he would have done justice to Lecter but Hopkins is so good in that role I can't imagine Jack as an upgrade, and I'm a huge Nicholson fan. While Indiana Jones would have been fine for an easy paycheck I'm glad Jack steered clear
>While Indiana Jones would have been fine for an easy paycheck
That was a pretty demanding shoot with a lot of travel. Plus Ford did all his stunts where death wasn't a possibility.
>Hadn't considered the shoot
It's virtually the exact opposite of an easy pay check, great role though. Star making role though Jack already was a star. Tom Selleck is the guy that would be full of regret that he wasn't able to do it. >Jack would never have done his own stunts lol
Wouldn't have thought so, although he just didn't really make those kind of movies so I guess there's a chance he might have if the right role dictated it.
>ruined
just because they mightve been better the way they ended up doesnt mean Jack could've ruined them, hes never ruined a single film. Best actor of all time
This is interesting and I hadn't considered it before. He's been in unquestionably bad movies, but they aren't worse for him being there. Even goofy shit like Wolf is more fun because he knows how to ham it up. Really magnetic charisma--one of a king star
heard there was a special a special reason why all this has happened that no one can understand
I don't think we've heard the last from anyone even REMOTELY involved in all of this
that's not just my instinct, but also what a lot of people might be saying
Pretty sure Kurtz was only ever offered to Brando, though he was supposed to turn up in top fitness but instead showed up over 300lbs which necessitated filming him in darkness or shadows, which luckily ended up working so well.
Yeah and Shirley Temple could have done Wizard of Oz but everyone knows it would have been worse. Nicholson stayed away from roles that weren't any good for him, he's an artist. He knows what's up. Grabbing every opportunity that comes to you is what bums do.
I can definitely picture him as Michael, I've been imagining him doing the "that's my family, Kay, it's not me" scene in my head this whole thread and he'd be fine, potentially great, however I still think Pacino is a better fit for the role.
Good
He would have been a massive improvement in Blade Runner
Jack turned down The Godfather because he thought it should be an Italian but in reality he seethed over passing it up and hated Pacino for not thanking him in passing it up.
Jack just hates those frickin guineas
Nicholson as Father Karras would've fricking sucked.
Yeah, because there's a chance Jack wouldn't have done the Last Detail.
He would've been great in the part.
Nicholson as Rick Deckard would have been epic.
It would have brought real detective cred to the character that Ford didn't really have. Ford was always more an action star than a sleuth.
I try to imagine him in that role and I don't know if he'd be too goofy or not goofy enough.
The only one that would have been an improvement is Deckard. Noir scifi Chinatown
>chinatown if it cyberpunk
He could have pulled off Deckard or Lecter pretty well.
I can't picture Nicholson as Indiana Jones
I can see it
I can. There would be one movie and it would be a contender with CK
somebody screencap this and post on twitter, take a photo of it, then fax it to me.

Apparently Taxi Driver as well
>Nicholson turned down the part of Travis Bickle. Actor who got the part: Robert De Niro.

Ford was natty ripped as frick too
The only film he wouldn't have ruined is Blade Runner. He wouldn't have been better than Ford tho.

Imagining rejecting all these and STILL being known as one of the all-time greats.

Daily reminder
He could have done Godfather, Taxi Driver, Blade Runner & Apocalypse Now.
Pretty sure Kurtz was only ever offered to Brando, though he was supposed to turn up in top fitness but instead showed up over 300lbs which necessitated filming him in darkness or shadows, which luckily ended up working so well.

Shit maybe he should have turned down more roles.
He could’ve pulled any of those off because he’s better than Harrison Ford and Al Pacino.
I can definitely picture him as Michael, I've been imagining him doing the "that's my family, Kay, it's not me" scene in my head this whole thread and he'd be fine, potentially great, however I still think Pacino is a better fit for the role.
> Michael Corleone - The Godfather
> Deckard - Blade Runner
He'd have been terrible in these.
I don't know, I think he would've brought a lot of drive to the roles.
>Deckard - Blade Runner
>He'd have been terrible in these.
Are you some kind of moron?
Then he’s a better casting director than most casting directors. He’s wrong for every single one of those.
