BW season 1 is organic animals beast modes on. a planet that looks like/is Earth(with Machine Wars as a small toyline with vehicles), BW II is a bunch of animalformers on an Earthlike(is Earth) planet with the enemies being vehicles.
BW Season 2 introduces third modes, then BW Neo has the characters use third modes as well
BW Season 2/3 leans into the time travel aspect and g1 elements ...and so Car Robots was seemingly conceived with the cast being time travelers.
The American side of the fandom gets confused about Fire convoy looking so much like Optimus-when JP continuity for kids shows tends to be fast and loose as is, but doesn't mean they aren't in continuity. The Convoys work on Ultraman logic- look similar but aren't all the same. Big convoy also was designed with features as a G1 Convoy homage(mainly his chest). In the 80's, Masterforce also seemed like a full reboot- but it's not. It's just a different sensibility with continuity.
