      Normie opinion

That the story was too black and white and it needed a character willing to walk the more realistic and thin grey line.

it was all downhill after he killed off L anyway.

      Another normie take.
The Near ending was 10x more based than any L ending could have been.

You didnt pay attention enough. I get it, you are a pleb who does the anime equivalent of speedreading. Most casual viewers didnt get it either, dont feel too bad.

Just finished Death Note earlier tonight. Near was fine. Not as good as L, but not bad. Light’s ego being his downfall was a good way to finish the series after winning the cat and mouse game with L.

Lights ego was in fact not his downfall.
Lights doenfall was assuming Near was the same as L (as all the haters also falsely claim)

Alright you idiots ready to have your mind blown?
          >Light lost because he trusted Mikami too much and beleived he was untouchable and his hubris etc. Etc.
          >No!

Light lost because Near used the Death Note in order to defeat him! That is the piece of the puzzle most didnt get. NEAR USED THE DEATHNOTE.
Near was the balance between Light and Ls ideals. He stood for justice and knew Kira was wrong, but also recognized (and keep in mind for a Japanese this is a very bold statement) that sometimes killing is okay for the greater good.

Near used a piece of rhe deathnote to write in that Mikami foils Light.
Near was the balance between the two ideals. And that is ultimately why he succeeding where both others failed.

                it doesn't count because:
                >L doesn't kill him
                >the inmate is a volunteer
                >L doesn't know he will 100% be killed, just put in a potentially deadly but very unlikely situation
                >state mandated execution arguably isn't "killing"
                >you could say giving a chance to a death row inmate to get a pardon is the opposite of carrying out the sentence aka killing him (in your own logic)

a good ending would have been showing what Light achieved after beating L. like Light said in the beginning every time a book gets dropped in the human world it's a big deal that shifts the world. you don't even need a full episode for that, just four to..eight minutes at most for further exposition.

Heres a super meta and this one isnt canon, just my personal speculation mind you, Mello is a Shinigami.

He mirrors the Shinigami sacrificing themselves for Light (well, Misa, but you get the point), and is constantly fixated on a single specific food item. In Ms case, chocolate, the same way Ryyuk finds applea irresistible.

Wasn't it the case that the comic was so popular that they were forced to continue it after L died? Like that's how they originally planned to end it and then they had to come up with some bullshit to continue it.

    Read the manga.

The second half is compressed in the anime and leaves many things out, especially how Near concludes that Mikami is X-Kira.

The first half is 25 episodes and the second just 12. No surprise that it's a little janky.

It's not like it was some kind of astronomical coincidence though. Rem was watching over Misa specifically because she felt like the death of the other Shinigami shouldn't have been in vain. Pretty soon her feelings of protectorship turned into feelings of love due to constant proximity.

Near was fine I guess, he was never going to be as good as L but it’s whatever. The problem with the ending of death note was just how fricking stupid it was. It’s been ac while since I watched it, but basically didn’t Light lose because he was fooled by a fake copy of the death note, a copy that was so perfect and exact that light couldn’t tell it was a fake one despite thoroughly examining it and verifying it even going so far as to check it with a microscope? And then that 100% accurate copy down to a microscopic level was made in a matter of hours? I mean that’s just bullshit, if you want to make light lose you gotta do better than that. That happening just ruined all sense of immersion and suspension of disbelief for a series that was more or less pretty grounded in the parameters of its universe, and it just ruined the ending. That’s why death note ends with lights victory over L, because the ending of the second half was just so bad.

      Anonymous

Yeah it was moronic. Light beating L actually made sense, Near pulling countless things out of his ass to beat Light killed the entire goodwill the series had. It would have been perfect if it had ended with when Light beat L.

Another thing that was moronic was Misa knew L's name for a long time/long enough to write it in her death note, but for some reason she doesn't? Yet Near gets dozens of literal deus ex machina bullshit at the end going his way to win. The mangaka was too much of a pussy and actually listened when sj made him rewrite the last half of the series.

Except the entire point is they used the death note and wrote Mikamis name inside which allows you to control their actions before they die. It WASNT accurate and if the death note hadnt been used Mikami WOULD have seen through it.

Cope and seethe lol. In the manga the death note was still stole and swapped out with a 100% accurate fake death note that was somehow made in a couple of hours. Still a trash ending and you repeating over and over again that near was willing to use the death note doesn’t somehow make that stupid plot point any better. It ruined the ending because it made no sense. So your favorite manga has a shitty ending, happens sometimes.

iow L had better character than Near, who was a machiavellian. Got it

In the manga it was higly hinted that Near wrote Mikami's name on the true note he stole, ordering him to not noticing the Death Note switch. He died a couple of weeks later in prison in a suspecting manner

this is why the live action japanese movie was superior. the ending was perfect it didn't drag.

It needed to end with L or Light winning, or even have L die but still defeat Light from beyond the grave. Having a university of proto-Ls was lame and demeaned his character.

this is how the movie ended. L also used a mechanic of the death note that wasn't on the manga and the anime AFAIK but makes actual sense.

I recently started rewatching this and goddamn it’s not as good as I remember. A lot of moronic things and coincidences
    Very overhyped series
And I didn’t even make it to where he killed L. I dropped it around episode 13

What are the biggest flaws in death note?

As much as Near ultimately turned out to be annoying, the scene where he meets Light for the first time and scares the shit out of him is one of the best moments in the show.

The show was never good, too much time spent wanking off Light.

L won because Light was disqualified using some homosexual deus ex machima with Rem. Literally unfair.

The whole Near arc was to correct this.

Daily reminder that he did absolutely, legitimately, genuinely, unironically, literally and figuratively nothing wrong.

Nah, it was ruined long before by the author
    >L almost got Kira but he asspuled some new rule from God of Death to be saved x5
    >L almost got Kira, but some moronic God Of Death decided to sacrifice himself for the sake of some pop idol c**t with 1 digit IQ

    etc.

    >Say I'm going to die in 60 years

You can manipulate the deaths only up to 30 something days. If you write someone will die one exact year after you wrote the name, it will break the rule. So the victim will die of heart failure after 40 seconds

Hes a much better character in the manga with his own personality. Madhouse were hardcore Light fanboys so they butchered Near and overall the entirely of the second half, with lots of cuts

Just wanted to say that L's dub actor was fantastic. Something Juliani? He was Gaeta in Battlestar Galactica

Near was based who did what he had to do to get results
L was a cringelord holding to some false sense of justice

Worst part about him is his design, if he didn't look so much like L there would have been a lot less backlash.

Second arc would have been improved dramatically by introducing Near and Mello a bit earlier, while L is still alive.
Make L say some shit like "I have brought two new detectives on the case." Give Near and Mello some development while L is still alive, then have the go their separate ways after L dies.

yeah felt like near and mello were to solve the mistake of killing off L early

The second half has horrible pacing because after L died they decided to rush it so instead of adapting 3 chapters per episode like they had previously done, they decided to suddenly adapt 6 chapters per episode.
I think the worst episode is the one where Light's dad dies, they adapted like 10 chapters for that episode.

    unironically the grand filter.

you can tell how ignorant a viewer is by whether they criticize near as a knockoff L, big neon sign they do not understand the significance of the near + mellow team up, and how them working together with L + mellow's sacrifice is the only thing that leads to Light's capture.

Why are you Black folk ignoring that Misa at any point could have killed L but conveniently didn’t? The “oh there’s actually 4 more people like L that magically do everything right and have 200 iq and will team up to take Light down” is also the ultimate hack shit. Literally indefensible. Face it that he wrote himself into a corner and didn’t have the balls to use the original ending.

If Misa killed L it would have implicated Light immediately and given L backed up all the files on his investigation, Light would have been in the shit. This isn't complicated.
