Only Tarantino had the balls to actually film it. My whole life boomers idolized this actor thinking he was a real life fighting God. Tarantino was also probably annoyed by this so once he had a movie he could use Bruce Lee, he was gonna do something no one ever did, SHIT ON HIM

    >Bruce Lee was arrogant about his skills
this is 100% true and it isnt disrespectful of him. Tarantino invents a war hero stuntman who killed his wife, and likely others, and got away with it. a character incredibly good at combat who could be intimidating.
The point of the movie is a form of revenge for Sharon Tate. The hippies/manson family die horribly at the hands of Cliff and Rick. The flamethrower is established. Cliff being an expert in combat to the point you KNEW those hippies were fricked the moment they broke in needed to be established too. Fighting Bruce Lee covers that while also being hilarious.

Pretty much. You'd think that people would look at it more like "Cliff is such a purposeful Gary stu that he can easily beat up Bruce Lee" instead people get pissed off about it. Even tho Bruce later is shown as being friendly with Sharon and The Bride's yellow and black outfit in Kill Bill 1 was clearly in honour of Bruce Lee as an icon

All of those tough guy movie fighters from back then would get absolutely destroyed by a novice mma fighter in current year. Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Steven Segal, etc.

I like how Tarantino basically proved that Asian men are the most desired race
Apparently the fastest growing porn category has changed from BMWF to AMWF

Isn't established that if Fiction Man meets a real life person, Fiction Man wins every time?

The weird part is that Bruce's negative depiction was a last minute change; in several script drafts the movie's ending fight included Bruce helping Cliff kill the Manson gang; the foreshadowing is left in the final film in the brief scene where he's teaching Sharon Tate martial arts

It would have utterly changed the context of the whole movie and made it seem much more Bruce-worshipping since he'd be central to the climax and basically part ways with Cliff going "hey tough rival, you are my new best friend now" but maybe it would have been a little too cliche

a good change imo. to have real people involved in the killing of the manson family would tarnish it. Also its a film all about Cliff and Rick. Sharon Tate isnt so much a character but context for the finale payoff

Yea, that sounds dumb enough for Tarantino to write it. I'm guessing some editor was like "naw, that's fricking moronic" and saved the movie.

Indeed. It goes so OTT at the end that it should have REALLY gone for it.

Its would be too much. The movie ends up wish fulfilment enough. Having Bruce jump in would turn it into some dumb anime crossover shit

this was an unsubstantiated rumour posted on Cinemaphile in the months leading up to OUATIH release

i dont think theres any credible evidence this was ever part of a draft or an idea Tarantino had, just someone's fanfic

Bruce Lee's legacy was strong enough to survive 1 parody film appearance. He's still cool for all his foibles.
It was the legacy of asian men latching onto a dead guy that couldn't survive it.

Bruce Lee was a good showman. That's it. He wasn't some godly fighter. He was a practitioner of an art, and popularized it. But he was not a real fighter, he was an influencer of his day

Eastern martial arts is just a way for old people to get their bowels moving. Very little to do with defending your opponent
