They did not invent the concept. That honor would go to Max Headroom.

But in all seriousness the idea of using a virtual avatar version of a character from a fictional property, as a concept has been used long before Roosterteeth did it. Heck there are "vtubers" who predate Kizuna AI, even though she is treated as the one to start the trend./spoiler]

what do the voice actors, writers, and, just in general, long time showrunners at rt really think of this i wonder. Are alarm bells ringing in their heads at how desperate this is? maybe actual despair that over ten years of work on rwby and this is where its ended up? maybe they dont care cause its a paycheck and its what the kids are into. but there used to be something more than that in this series. the future looked so bright once

all the old hands' minds have been warped with time and anyone new that joins is already fricked up mentally from the get go. say what you will about the guy who died during vol 3, but even if he had lived the show would've ended up in a similar place anyway.
rwby itself was a great idea, but it was the ones who thought of this idea would ruined it.

then again anything that was shit could have been better if better writers had it instead so I'm not really saying that much here

        Anonymous

It's not really much of an idea so much as a series of thin premises for cute anime girls fighting things. As for Monty, I'm not sure if the show would be better or worse if he still lived, but the path of the show would be different at least, if only because his autism would've inevitably derailed the plot at a couple points.

I wouldn’t expect V10 news until after JL2 releases, I think CR/RT is waiting to see how well the movie does before making the final decision. I’m leaning towards there will be no V10 but if there is I would bet money it’ll be the last volume and a complete rushjob to have somewhat of a proper ending.

RWBY is utterly dead, and in my opinion it was dead on arrival. A stillborn franchise. If a reboot ever occurs in the hands of competent writers they should scrap everything, and only keep the style and feel of the early seasons. Any lore or plot points or worldbuilding from current RWBY should just be thrown out.

It had nothing going for it beyond style and idk "soul" because it was clearly made with love and passion. But thats just not going to carry it all the way. Its story is dogshit its characters are bland as hell, its themes are nonexistent until Roosterteeth decided to have Ruby an hero herself, its worldbuilding is a dumpster fire, its tone is bizarrely grimdark

I wonder if CRWBY regrets everything after the timeskip. RWBY in the main serious is so depressed and serious all the time. But in literally anything else (Chibi, games, this Vtuber shit) she’s back to her genki V1-3 personality. Seems like they kinda miss writing her that way, but never get the opportunity to in the actual canon show.

the series used to be fun and actually funny. i rewatch random episodes of seasons 1-3 time to time but for the life of me i dont want to rewatch anything past that. they leant way too hard on the angst and dour mood and game-of-thrones-lite scheming and factions and everything. show used to just be about cute girls fighting monsters in cool action scenes. sometimes thered be melodrama. i havent watched the last two volumes but having jaune kill penny and ruby commit suicide is just ridiculous shock

The timeskip, or at least having the teams separate after that for two volumes, was a mistake but RWBYJ and Neo falling into the EA absolutely killed the show. It’s fricking insane we waited two years for a filler volume that served zero purpose other than MKEK finally being able to finally write off Neo without killing her to avoid backlash and making BY canon.

      >Mobile Suit Gundam

Haven't finished the anime (left off around ep 25-30) but Ruby might have the technical skill it takes to learn how to pilot the Gundam. She'd cope with killing other people worse than Amuro does though, to the point where she'd probably breakdown completely. I honestly don't know what WBY+JNR do here besides stay on the ship. They'd crush in any infantry engagements, but mech weapons, tanks, and jets blow them to smithereens. Maybe Ozpin knows how to pilot a mech, so Oscar might slide into Guntank or Gun Cannon from time to time.

Then again, they could get the crew of Whitebase killed since they follow orders worse than Amuro does.

It only counts because I tried to find the series on Netflix today, and only found the movies instead.

Ruby let a bunch of White Fang goons die on the train, crippled Cinder and Tyrian and fights with a weapon that can maim and kill. Killing has never been a major issue or even theme in RWBY and I don't know why some morons act like Ruby wouldn't be able to kill someone she deemed evil enough.

Honestly, I wasn't aware she's ever consciously killed people before. I don't think she's Naruto, she wouldn't hesitate to kill Cinder or Tyrian, but my thinking was that a war against soldiers is a bit different. But yea, now that you say it, I think I've underestimated her willingness to kill.

There is a ton of incidental death in the early volumes. It's never explicit and always glossed over because of the tone, but those frickers that fell off the train are definitely dead. V1-3 Ruby stacks faunus bodies like she's the second coming of General Legune (competent).

Can’t they just say their auras protected them? The fact that breaking aura was treated as a serious plot device in V3 implies that it didn’t really happen in the previous volumes.

Do they even have their auras unlocked? I was always under the impression only the big honchos had unlocked aura.

Regardless though, some of those who fell off the train were going to be swarmed by the Grimm coming into the tunnels, so at the bare minimum they sentenced them to death-by-grimm.

I keep wondering whose idea it was to make the crossover movies, and why split the animation team? Thanks to that, volume 9 was postponed a lot, and had its budget cut, which led to it being 2 episodes shorter. It would have been fine if the crossover project had been produced by a different studio, but with the same writers and voice actors. The fans are still hoping for volume 10. I take it Warner Bros are waiting for the second crossover movie to be released first, and see how successful it is. Then they can decide on volume 10, and the future of the show. But honestly, I don't think we're getting volume 10. If we are lucky, the volume will instead be done with a novel.

i can't articulate it rn but this crossover idea is just weird as frick. 1. rwby isnt well known to the average person. 2. rwby fans would prefer anime crossover than american comics crossovers. like batman and tmnt works well cause theyre the same genre. they work off each other aswell. its a similar setting and you get the turtles lax attitude to crime fighting and familial relationship contrasted with batmans loner stoicism, plus all the villains teaming up- thats kinda fun. with rwby i can't imagine any sort of interesting chemistry between justice league and team rwby. they're all so agreeable and 'just want to do good' and its like what will they even do? kill grimm for an hour? I'm not even sure that rwby got proper characterisation in their own series. I'll have to see the film but im not keen on what ive seen of the comics at least

Yes but a novel would be longer and cheaper. A volume is several hours long. It would be difficult to fit all of that into many comics.

          >A volume is several hours long.
          >It would be difficult to fit all of that into many comics.
That logic doesn't work because it's the same thing for manga and anime if you think about it.
If you read manga instead of watching anime you save a lot of time because anime/animation have in-betweens and other crap to make the episode longer than it shoud be while manga is basically just the key frames and sometimes not even that.

          >The animation medium takes a lot longer to cover the same amount of material than comics so it's doable to cover a whole volume in a few chapters.

They should’ve really split the animation team in hindsight. Even if V9 did suck I think had it been released in summer 2022 like I believe it was originally planned to it would’ve been at least more popular, a two year wait was terrible and the volume being horrible except for one episode did it no favors. I also agree RT and CR are waiting to how JL2 before making a final decision on whether or not there will be a V10. I’m leaning towards a cancelation but if there is a V10 I would bet money it’s going to be announced as the last volume unless JL2 does very well. I could see a novelization for V10 possibly if it’s canceled, or maybe they’ll just do a 2 hour wrap up movie if WB is generous, but I think it’s more likely we’d just see a reboot 5-10 years from now.

Which is crazy considering 12 volumes are planned so we’re 75% through the planned series and there’s still nothing. But based on Miles’s cameos, it seems like Cinder will end up being the final boss if that show makes it that far so it won’t even matter about how to defeat Salem anyway, she’ll just suck out Salem’s powers with her Grimm arm.

That's not what the epilogue shows.

They only conceived of that plan well after they had fallen out with Ironhitler though, didn't they? Before that their plans were "save Atlas only" and "save Mantle first while Atlas is under threat"

Before that their plan was to contact the rest of humanity.

                >The same way you think the guy who wanted to abandon the rest of humanity to die is a good guy.
It's still better than sacrificing them all on a suicide mission, at least he wanted to save more than half of them.

Getting all of humanity killed isn't better than anything. Also, do you understand you're literally saging the show should've promoted the message that sacrificing lives can be a gokd thing? >Also, do you understand you're literally saging the show should've promoted the message that sacrificing lives can be a gokd thing?
Yes, literally every damn war of humanity has promoted the sacrifice of lives to save the majority.

I said "piece of media". Real-life war is by itself a failure of civilized workd to solve issues peacefully, so of course it abandons conventional morality. War also promotes pillaging, burning and raping the villages on your enemy side and getting away with it scot-free because they're all evil subhumans anyway. Are you going to say media should glorify that, too?

Pretty sure people demand the police to not be excessively brutal, whether that's a real issue is up to debate. Either way it's good to promote not backing down from a fight. Media and culture is how ideals are preserved in a society, and a civilized society is impossible without ideals. At best it'd just be barbarians with fancy technology.

People with a backbone and principle. People who think humanity should be more than ajust a bunch of disorganized animals fighting for survival. Sorry if you want to watch a show about cowards who only want to save themselves.

If you were stuck with your best friend without food for many days, you would eventually try to eat each other. Going by the logic of survival of the species, this is a moral thing to do and you wouldn't feel bad about it, correct?

If we assume than one random person's life is more important than other random person's, then someone walking up to you on the street to stab you with a knife is not doing anything immoral. Of course, you wouldn't like that becase it would harm you personally. Meaning your morality is entirely self-serving and therefore there's no reason to take anything you say seriously, since you're just saying things convenient for yourself.

You are literally saying that some people's lives are more important than others, to the point where others' lives are worthless and should be sacrificed. You advocate for deciding whether people should live or die by yourself, without their input. That is the pinnacle of egoism and you're trying to pass it off as a righteous thing.

That is the definition of today's society.

In what way? If you mean that the current society was made possible by the war sacrifices of the past, the sacrifices that mattered were the ones of the people actually fighting, not the civilians dying for nothing.

Anon, in historical wars, civilians were the vast majority of casualties in whatever theater the war took place in. Germany's population was cut in half or more in some places in the 30 years war. Civilians being spared from war is a very, very new thing.

And those casualties by themselves didn't contribute to any development of society, so advocating for more of them is pointless and no one in their right mind is gonna do that.

I'm sorry, are you saying the death of millions of civilians doesn't matter, and that we shouldn't consider modern society to be built in their bones? Specifically because their deaths didn't contribute to the evolution of society in a meaningful way? I feel like I'm missing something here.

Don't you think it's a little disingenuous to advocate for sacrificing civilians and then turn around and say "oh, you think all those civilian deaths in the past meant nothing?" I mean, not really if you're just going to help destroy the society that was built on them by sacrificing more civilians.

Eh, it's sort of a Titanic situation as far as Ironwood was concerned, which isn't a totally unreasonable point of view given the situation. He basically had one big lifeboat which already had a lot of people on it. He probably could've gotten more people aboard, but the boat couldn't fit everyone at the end of the day and there were legitimately a lot of extenuating circumstances.

The man sacrificed his flesh and soul for the cause. His fault was paranoia. His trust in anyone but himself had been chipped and cracked until it shattered. It's narcissistic in some degree, but still distinct from selfishness.

Why are you people always so intellectually dishonest? It's obvious Vacuo's relic is going to work in a way that counters the creation relic. Why do you never even try to acknowledge that? All your discussion about this is always

It's an assumption you can easily make, but people always act like there is no possible imaginable way to defend against the other relic.

NTA but even if the relic of destruction directly counters the relic of creation, unless it insta-poofs creation's creations then Salem could just go full KKV and magic up a huge boulder to crush Vacuo with or something like that. That's likely why it seems like such a game over situation, because its use is solely limited by creativity and (apparently) mechanical knowledge, both of which Salem should have plenty of.

Fair point that people don't really discuss the Sword, though you managed to make yourself sound like a fart-huffing homosexual in your own right in the process. But to engage you on an "intellectually honest" level, I guess the main thing right now is that we don't know anything about the Sword, so it's hard to speculate about it. We do know how the Staff works though and it's OP as shit if you're not a bunch of chucklefricks like Team RWBY. It's hard to envision how precisely the Sword is going to neatly counter all the absolute bullshit you could pull off with the Staff in a way that isn't cloyingly convenient and/or itself moronic.

The problem is the staff has effectively no limits in its creation powers. The sword must have limits to its destruction powers because otherwise they could just use it to end Salem.

Sure, we don't know about the sword's limits and it could end up being something really dumb, but it's not like it's unfeasible that it would be able to disintegrate anything the other relic creates. It doesn't have to be weak to not be able to destroy Salem.

See this is the problem: that's not good enough. Salem could just use the Staff to keep making portals and dumping Grimm wherever she wants. Even if you can use the sword to destroy the portal, she can just make another. The Sword can't be everywhere all the time. You either need to expand its powers to equally ridiculous levels to keep up with the Staff's bullshit or you need to nerf the Staff somehow. Either way, it's a bad position for the writers.

Because then you need to develop more precise rules for that or else you circle back around to the question of "Why haven't we been using this in the fight against Salem?" Strawman. I never said anything about the Sword killing Salem. It doesn't need to be able to destroy her to be useful in fighting her. This is the critical point. A plot device doesn't need to perfectly resolve the entire plot to still be bullshit. And at what point does this just devolve to kids on a playground going
                >"I have the ultimate thingamajig that lets me instantly win!"
                >"Nuh-uh because I have the ultimate doodad that makes it so that your dumb thingamajig doesn't work on me!"

It depends on if they're eager to take the Sword from the vault after what happened to the Staff are it was pulled from its vault. It could get stolen and then it's near over once they figure out the trick to get to Vale's relic. It's also possible that Theodore or the Summer maiden will refuse to take it out due to how dangerous the Sword is. It was what was used to end the Great War.

It is pretty funny how Muzan's stupid natural disaster spiel is actually applicable to Salem. It's basically a recurring theme in the show. Team STRQ is basically an embodiment of it.

      >Summer is one of the "deviants" who thinks she can fight the hurricane and fricking dies
      >Tai gives up on it all and literally goes the "live quietly, earn your daily wages" path
      >Raven replaces the "live quietly" part with "rob people fleeing the hurricane"
      >Qrow dedicates himself to protecting people from the hurricane, but it never ends and it's destroying him

Like many things in RWBY, I'd almost be tempted to call it good writing if I wasn't almost certain it was all just incidental shit shaking out from the premise and falling in an interesting pattern.

Movies were produced at the same time as V9 anon. I don’t think it’s a good sign that the show will get a V10 when CRWBY was begging people not to pirate during V9 to get more views and at RTX begging fans to use a hashtag to get V10 greenlit. If they are lucky they’ll get a tenth and final volume.

He clearly fills in a LOT of the blanks. They gave him a pneumatic transport system and he gave them back an interdimensional portal nexus of floating walkways suspended over a void (which itself leads to the fairytale homeland of the gods because whatever).

Silver Eyes are explicitly creation powers in canon. He is the Relic of Creation. It's totally in his wheelhouse to know how to make Silver Eyes. Especially with Ruby's eyes as an example. Unless you think Cinder gave him the blueprints to fire.

Yeah, it was bullshit. They might as well have made Adam the new leader that took over the WF a few years prior, because the in the same episode where most people who aren't hanging on every detail find out he's not that leader, he kills her and becomes the new leader anyway. Not liking Bumbleby doesn’t mean you’re homophobic. It means you know a shit ship when you see one. Especially with how it regressed both of their characters: Blake from a confident activist leader to a timid weakling and Yang from a caring thrill-seeker to a grouchy butch who always puts her girlfriend before her sister.

Instead of Robyn and the Huntresses it should have been the Atlas White Fang. Like after Beacon/Haven they're trying to play politics and build up good PR by helping Mantle instead of all the terrorism. It's a good set up for drama, trust issues, conflict in the team, etc as RWBY is forced to consider an working with a former, and maybe still current, enemy. Plus it would make Ironwood snapping make more sense if it was the White Fang RWBY was working with on the sly and not some random Robin Hood lady.
