Nah it's just ametuer. One thing that MUST be said to its credit is that the camera work/shot compo is better with monty's. While the action looks cheaper the simple composition lends itself towards more complex coreography without falling into a trap many anime do where speed lines and instant movement = cool (see weiss flipping every dodge with the armour in the anime).

In terms of craft Monty has them beat - the shot composition and, now that I think of it, weight of the action are both better.

What joke? Monty's shit has more weight and is more clearly understood actionwise. The anime looks pretty as can be but many action scenes, like the boar fight, loose track of movement and weight for sakuga visuals like the bloodspray.
Both do well what the other does poorly. Proper action sequences don't jump around as sporadically nor do they rely on close shots outside of artistic flourish because they want to convey the action properly

It still baffles me that despite all the set up she had going for her, Weiss was little more than a bit player in Atlas, and how all her family drama sort of fizzled out.
The fact that Ironwood didn't even mention he killed Jacques to Winter really tells me the writers just didn't care, like they got what they needed out of that arc and felt no motivation to explore it beyond the immediate necessity to the plot.
The writers do this alot. A villain has served their intended use so they get unceremoniously offed. Atlas should've been about Weiss and Blake, but it ended up being about Jacques and a rigged election instead. I think it was partly due to the writers wanting a bit of a breather from the faunus plot after offing Adam.
Honestly, Jacques surviving would've been a much more interesting development. Imagine becoming suddenly poor and in a wasteland like Vacuo with the entire populations of Atlas and Mantle who essentially hates you. And now your one daughter might be dead. And your other daughter has essentially become Superwoman. Imagine realizing that none of his family needed him and that everyone was much happier with him gone. I secretly hope he gets revealed to be alive somehow since this thought is delicious.
From the villains, I just expect Emerald, and maybe Neo and Mercury, to survive till the end.

Assassinating the board members of a company that keeps your species as pseudo-slave labor is a pretty understandable reaction, honestly. Definitely not the best or even an effective course of action, but it's understandable. Weiss unfairly suffers the emotional hardship of that, but she also puts the blame on all Faunus. They haven't mentioned attacks against random innocent civilians (yet), though Adam doesn't seem to care too much about collateral damage so it's probably coming.
Hopefully they add some nuance to the White Fang into something morally grey instead of batshit insane evil school shooter shit. Adam's final line and Weiss's argument with Blake, and making Weis even more racist gives me hope that's the direction they'll go, but I don't think it will actually happen. The plot might not even go in the direction of the White Fang.
I don't know why, but for some reason I feel like Weiss and Yang aren't in the same scene, they're talking, But they seem disconnected, maybe it's the exaggeration of the scene.

For someone who's already watched the show, this was mostly eh. The visuals looked very cheap at times, most of the fight scenes were either not as fun to watch or was cut entirely, and the character interactions felt rushed. I did like how certain scenes felt more expanded like there being more of Taiyang and Weiss's family being seen during the knight fight. Hopefully, it gets more interesting as it goes more into its own direction.
I feel like the anime studio did the bare minimum they needed to say they made it so new viewers could pick up the series. Given Weiss' nightmare world, her family needed more early focus, since we're likely going to get "Dream Actors" of them too.
They rushed all of season 1 in 3 episodes maybe they wanna get to the really juicy stuff in volume 2 and 3

There was 1 good fight scene, Rwby in the dust shop was fricking amazing. It felt like they tried. They even added a good song for it.

The show is unimpressive. A rushed recap followed by the reveal the entire story that follows is a dream. The characters seem flat and there are no stakes. And it's SHAFT so it's a case of "wait for the blu-ray fixes".

It's definitely not superior, but it isn't a 1:1 recap either as it adds in a few things that were there before like introducing characters earlier. Or adding context to scene that didn't exist prior, like with Weiss's fight, or Tai and Yang's converstation on Ruby needing to be more independent.
Animation is is hit and miss, with it being just okay a lot of the times. I'll wait for the rest before giving my full opinion.

The fight scenes in RWBY are better than the one's in Queendom so far. The only one that sort of comes close is the fight with Ruby and the goons. Look at the fight scene in Blake's trailer then compare it to the one in Queendom. RWBY didn't always have stellar or even decent animation, but fight scenes were always RWBY's sort of specialty, and so far the one's they've shown that don't involve Ruby have been just "okay".

The whole point of that scene was to show why Weiss isn't very good leadership material as she gets easily distracted by Ruby just trying to give her valuable advice. Queendom cuts those bits out, and instead just goes for flash animation. Fight scenes are also there to help tell a story and not just be flashy all the time.

Imagine being an anime-only viewer in this scenario. Ice Queendom just isn't a standalone series.
Is it really that confusing? Some thugs wanted to steal some shit at the docks, Blake had a history with the other gang they're working with, Penny fricks them up showing how strong she is despite her quirks.
Wiess swallows her pride having been not only not useful, but also has the knowledge she's been a b***h to her team, with the strong implication she only said what she did to clear the air and not because she genuinely believed it, which the rest of the show I imagine is gonna explore in more detail.
People get annoyed at skipped fights. It's like you're teasing them with something cool only to not let them see it.

Anon, this a reboot/remake. The only reason they kept most of volume 1 I imagine is because RT married them to it, and damn near all of volume was exposition anyway, with most of the rest being Jaune filler.

You have Weiss muttering underneath her breath at Ruby to be quiet, compared to Weiss outburst or her losing her weapon because she was too distracted by her teammate was simply trying to cheer her on. It makes Port's chastising of her look undeserving, because Weiss technically kept her cool the entire fight, which was not the case in the RWBY's version which was the point.
A number of things. Beacon is supposed to be the school for the best of the best, why would Weiss lose her weapon so easily? Just because she's distracted doesn't mean she should lose her competence, the whole reason she's angry is because her leader is someone two years younger than her, and in her mind has less maturity.
Also Port is a teacher, he's supposed to pick up on what his students are feeling, and even more than that, he's supposed to be teaching them how to stay alive, and you need be part of team to do that. Weiss going off and pouting in self pitty is more than enough reason to chastise her.

Weiss anger at Ruby not taking anything seriously(like her sleeping in class, drawing doodles) had been bubbling up before the fight prior to said fight, which is the entire reason she volunteered for the fight in the first place. In the end, Weiss's attitude ends up shooting herself in the foot, as it's because she was so desperate to prove why she should be leader, that she ended up making a rookie mistake and losing her weapon in the process. She then goes to Port to complain further about how she should be leader, while ignoring the obvious faults in her assignment that caused her to lose focus on minor shit.
Queendom has Weiss give Ruby a cold look, and mutter some shit under her breath, but ultimately she she doesn't struggle in said fight and yet she gets chewed out all the same.
In a way Queendom mischaracterizes Weiss a lot to make her appear colder than she actually is in the show.
Again, you don't need much to convey that. In storytelling sometimes you need to edit and cut the fat to better get the point across.
Weiss already didn't like Ruby, we had two episodes to convy that, in the main show 10 fricking episodes. All you need to establish is that Wiess is pissed Ruby is in the leader role and she's in a squad of people she deems inferior.

Sometimes stuff is shown just to help better characterize a person. In RWBY it shows that Weiss temper has a boiling point, and while she's skilled, she can be her own worse enemy, even while fighting.

But, I found alot of the sudden scene transitions combined with the cut scenes to be jarring. Penny mostly offscreening the docks fight is one of the main examples. There were alot of things during the initiation too, like not showing why the Death Stalker came after Pyrrha and Jaune. Or that Nora riding the Ursa was also offscreen. Yang and Blake teaming up was also very abrupt compared to what happened in the original.

My headcanon is that Jaune was originally a backup. Jaune is a genderbent Joan of Arc expy, and she's famous for hearing the voice of god and being able to have victories because of it. However, Ozpin's reincarnation could have a weird stipulation in that it can't be in a body that already has aura, sort of like how the power of maidens is similarly restricted to specific candidates.

All I know about RWBY is that they crossover with SMITE. and on Twitter they really REALLY wanted to be part of Fortnite and Multiverses and it came off as really desperate.

RT wouldn't give the Japanese side full creative control so you're getting White and Black trailers adapted, a rushed v1 adaptation that focuses more on Weiss, and then a lucid nightmare caused by a Grimm which is also focused on Weiss with the rest of Team RWBY having to rescue her.
There's literally nothing RT could do if SHAFT decide to hijack the story and do their own thing. Warner Bros would back them once it's good.

Just watched and I'm gonna spew some opinions. Wall of text incoming.
First couple of episodes were pretty good. Leaving animation on the side, I actually think it does a lot of things to improve the story. To name a few:

>traight up remove yellow trailer because it's Yang trashing a place over a fight she herself started and thus making her less of a crazy b***h
>Condensing the pre-test interactions to mostly happen in the airship, saving a lot of time with minimal loss
>Making Jaune's presence considerably less weird and frustrating (don't worry, ep 3 goes on to reverse this) and his interactions with Pyrrha more natural, if less comedic.

Only fault I'd give the show this far is removing Ruby's meeting with Jaune, which is what initially links the teams together, but whatever.

To finish off because I ran out of space, what frustrates me the most is Jaune because the first couple of episodes where handling it decently well. I was starting to believe that they would have him already have aura so he wouldn't be so suspension-of-disbelief-breaking levels of ignorant, while still remaining incompetent and untrained, but then they went and did it just like the show.
At least they skipped Jaundice.
Yeah, episodes 1 and 2 were good then episode 3 went neck break with the pacing and was borderline confusing at points. Like it honestly felt like they left entire scenes on the cutting room floor. It went from starting the harbor fight to right with Penny fricking ending the fight and honestly felt like we missed a shit ton with how it cut. Like they meant to actually include it but ran out of time and just had to stitch the episode. That said if you went into this blind without knowing anything about RWBY it doesn't look like they actually showed Pyrrha activating his aura like it is in the show. More her just explaining to him in further detail. He was shown using it before that scene anyways. I think in the anime Jaune is unironically more competent and probably was retconned to have some kind of training/aura capacity. Just Pyrrha is helping him further along in this one. Or maybe I'm just a moron.
Penny was cute though. She seemed A LOT more robotic in the anime.

I want to believe this, but they went and added Weiss watching and saying out loud that she can't believe the guy didn't know about Aura. Very confusing, specially with the scene prior being the Cardin beatdown and Jaune having aura then. It didn't feel llike like there was a flashback here either.

They wanted to get to the Nightmare plot so a lot had to be condensed. Otherwise, Episode 3 would have needed at least three episodes.
