It wont be as they'll be wondering neverland until like the last 2 episodes, its going to be a filler volume.
It's a character development volume. Vacuo is a mess right now and they need the girls to be ready and not emotional wrecks when they get there. So the girls got thrown into the Ever After to get focused and ready by facing their inner demons in a world that seems to reflect the inner selves of the people living there.
This, the whole point is that they are in a customized self-discovery trip, it seems even Jaune and Neo are going through something of their own with how the Even After works.

RWBY is RT's only selling property at this point, but I'm pretty sure Warner is ashamed of how cheap and basic it looks and how amateurish the writing is. Hence why they're pushing all these collabs and professional stuff while neglecting the actual show. Which I suppose makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised if they just tell them to wrap up RWBY proper early and just give them full control of everything and make their own version of it with high budget professional workers doing it.
I cant decide if it's more funny or sad that practically every spinoff/3rd party rwby products are far better than the main show despite all of them being half assed. The show relies hard on its audiences being naive enough to believe that the show was a passion project to justify its homemade looking animation on a shoestring budget and middle school grade fanfic level writing. Rt outsourcing rwby completely to better studios seems like an inevitability at this point
