i dont even try to be nit picky really but the gun scene kills it for me unless some anon gives me an explanation. the gun he pulls is a glock which FAMOUSLY dont have anything other than trigger safeties so i dont think im being an autist about it. so why doesnt it fire? cops dont walk around with empty magazines in their pistol. unless it was supposed to be an act of god, it seems like a huge blunder in the filming of the moive and ruins the scene

except having one in that scene creates plot hole. so it should have be replaced with literally anything else. if it being a glock was someone plot important (it wasnt obviously) then the entire scene should have been written differently or he should have at least been stopped before he very obviously pulled the trigger and looked at the gun to try to figure out why it didnt fire

Whenever I see someone who knows a lot about guns explaining how much they know, I'm always like, "wow, that guys knows a lot about guns, and guns are dangerous, meaning this guy knows how to handle dangerous stuff. That means he's really masculine, powerful, and cool, because to know that much about guns, you have to be brave and masculine." That's what I'm thinking right now about you, anon. You're really brave and capable, to be able to know and speak about such matters regarding something as powerful as a gun. Thank you for your insight 🙂

you can hear the striker click on his attempt but it's not crazy to think some station dwelling cop might have fricked up and inserted the mag after he engaged the striker. character tries to chamber a round after the failed attempt but gets tackled. it's really unlikely, but not out of the realm of possibility. no reason to get all pedantic about it.

            Anonymous

such a situation would make me think the character would feel lucky to be alive after that or even become be the start of a spiritual awakening but he never seems to think about or talk about it again. i think its obvious that the gun was supposed to be on safe but they didnt bother using a correct prop for it

why would a random guy who isn't shown handling or owning guns the rest of the film know that stuff?
he tried to shoot his brains out and failed

from my understanding, any safety mechanism on a glock would not allow a strike, whether it be the standard trigger blade safety or otherwise. also i don't think luck or hope or optimism really enters this characters vocabulary at this point. which is what makes the final scene with his nephew so impactful. a small glimpse of hope and playfulness. idk senpai

its the same plot hole. its not about GUNS. this is about a plot hole. cops dont walk around with empty chambers. yes its possible the the cop had an empty mag or a dud, but its very unlikely and the movie doesnt directly address that in any way, suggesting its a mistake

why would a random guy who isn't shown handling or owning guns the rest of the film know that stuff?
he tried to shoot his brains out and failed

soccer moms know how glocks work. they used to basically be part of a gun scare because everyone was going to shoot themselves with it because they "dont have safeties"

                Anonymous

i think its a big plot hole because of the scene it takes place in, which i already explained. it kills the emotion of the scene, which is supposed to be very dramatic and serious. what i dont understand is, why are you arguing with such gusto and coping for strangers instead of just reading the thread?

                Anonymous

                >it kills the emotion of the scene, which is supposed to be very dramatic and serious.
I didn't kill the emotion of the scene for anyone that didn't autiscitally take careful notice of the specifications of the gun, which happened to be most people.

What is important in the scene is thus follows
                >he killed his kids but gets off because it was an accident
                >he feels enormously guilty and attempts to kill himself with a cop gun but fails
despite your original claim, the type of gun not technically being designed for that scene to work DOES happen to be a minor nitpick.

no it doesnt work since i, the viewer, am also confused about what just happened. was it a blunder or is he going to have some issues that his life was saved because of a 1 in a billion chance accident and feel like he has to live now for some mushy reason like keeping the memory of his kids alive? especially since his prostitute wife just forgets everything and starts a new family. when will it come up again? will he mention it to a priest or a friend. oh its never brought up again so i guess it was just a really stupid and easily fixable mistake...

                Anonymous

                >no it doesnt work since i, the viewer, am also confused about what just happened
Because you are fricking moronic. The gun failing to kill him either because they made a prop mistake and meant for it to be on safe or it was a something like savvy anon

i mean, i own a glock. when you do trigger pull practice at home (without snapcaps) you engage the striker without a mag and hit the slide release to put the gun into battery so that you can feel the weight in the trigger, and the striker clicks just like it did in the scene. if you inserted a magazine without chambering a round during this exercise it's entirely plausible for this situation to happen.

points out; the point of the scene is he feels so guilty that he wants to kill himself as punishment. What can you possibly not get?
