i thought studios got almost all the money and theaters made their money from concessions. i "learned" that second hand before searching things on the internet was commonplace though

          Anonymous

Individual theaters don't make enough from movie ticket sales alone to cover the cost of everything, so concession sales are needed. That doesn't mean that they make nothing. The most absurd split was by Disney and that was 65/35 for The Last Jedi. Most splits are 60/40 for first 2 weeks then 50/50 after, or 55/45.

It depends on the Theater and what the Theater chain negotiated with the Studio in their contract.

One theater chain I worked at gave Disney 90% of ticket sales the first week. Then it went down to 80% the 2nd week. And down 10% each week after that. So it benefitted the theater if they kept the movies running longer in Cinemas and it was a big hit.

Bruh. It's COLD during Christmas. People want to spend time indoors. It's WARM in the summer. People want to spend time outdoors.

          >People want to spend time outdoors.
          Not anymore
People spend more time b***hing about the heat than ever going outside. I tell people every year. Suck it up, don't turn on the AC for a few weeks at least it makes the rest of summer more comfortable as it takes a week or two for your body to acclimate to hot or cold.
They look at me like I'm crazy yet I ran 10k in 95F and set my 3rd best time just a few days ago. I barely sweat when I mow the lawn. A week or two of mild discomfort or three months of running from AC to AC? Yeah hard fricking call but people are slaves to their consumption. I really find most people pathetic. I'm at the park every day, it's always Mexicans out playing and grilling and I live in a 90% white city but good for them they haven't been fully enslaved by israeli "culture" and hedonism and I applaud them for that.

Deadline did an article about money lost on what should have been profitable films (the accounting ass frickery on Kick Ass for example). They had Pacific Rim with a promo budget of 200 mil. It cost as much to market as it did to make. Obscenely stupid wastes of money. I hope to god it's laundering or something. It's one thing when Blumhouse or Raimi do a 1 for 1 spend (15 mil budgets for both making and marketing). But for these mega blockbusters it's moronic.

Thing is, they absolutely do need to spend on promos and they're not spending like they should.

They wanted 75% but they didn't get it, it's been used by shills as a cope since then but Disney is a public company so we know how much money they're losing on films and streaming

They need to hurry up and make a new Indy film before Ford dies. I want him to see his favorite character get recast and then completely embraced by pop culture before he leaves this world.

He doesn’t care about nerd “politics” (and already got paid), so he shouldn’t mind the fact that it was always about the character rather than him when a new film with a completely different actor is successful and takes over the world.

This one is unironically the worst financial failure in the history of filmmaking, we won't see another indy movie in our lifetimes or at least until after Disney is liquidated (by 2025 at this rate)

          Anonymous

I think the flash was outright abandoned and then picked up again while this shit was almost done, focus groups hated it and then reshot almost entirely.

            Anonymous

Not sure about that, I know Flash had several directors quitting and more than half reshot. Also Flash had many expensive celebs showing up as well as much more CGI bullshit that was also done and redone. "Done" being more a manner of speaking, the CGI looks like a pre-alpha version or something.
Indy only has Ford and Mads to pay high salaries to, in comparison.

              Anonymous

I think they were quitting before the script was even finished, Muschetti was the only one that got any shooting done. The CGI looked cheap as frick too, I can see Indy being way more expensive as it's reported everywhere

                Anonymous

Wouldn't surprise me if the CGI was expensive as always because of existing deals but the studio only gave the artists like 5 hours to do it.
I would also expect WB to be just the better liars about the cash they spent but I could just as well be wrong on all accounts.

                Anonymous

No reason to trust one and not the other, also insiders would know right away. For instance some disney copers were saying Indy's budget was as low as $250 million and now we all know it ws $329 million (biggest flop of all time). Some would apply to the flash

I will believe in the holocaust before I trust these numbers but what do I know.
I am guessing WB knew for quite a while now that Flash would bomb and may have been cooking the numbers better than Yidney could. They had the time to do it slowly and carefully so they can lie to insiders and shareholders.

                Anonymous

I mean maybe you're right but most of those 10 years of production was WB talking to some israelite so they write a script and the israelite never doing it, no money being spent. I could see some news coming out in a few months about the budget being massive but I don't see a reason to, other than to cover for Indy's way worse financial perfomance

                Anonymous

Well that makes sense but it might also be the case that some work was done or other costs accrued related to the time in production.
In any case both movies are complete garbage and both companies should collectively jump into the nearest oven.

It has a 100m budget and opening weekend is expected 50-60m, so it should do fine.

Maybe they'll finally stop milking decade old franchises and using ancient actors decades past their prime.

People want this from Indiana Jones. Not an 80 year old Harrison Ford.

that goose flick was so bad i forgot the name. it had the laughing chris in it and also billy bob thorton. ana de armas. she was forgettable and didn't even show boobs or vagene. movies are in trouble and only Cinemaphile anons can save them. but they would never hire one of us. someone wrote a great but short greentext about Mutt hunting for a lost relic in 'Nam and meeting Short-Round. would've been 1000X better than dilator of dustyknees

Movie's only been out for a few days morons. It'll easily gross 600m+ since there isn't shit to watch in theaters.

Kathleen Kennedy only cares about her self insert fanfiction being "canon". This is the story of a shitty little assistant whose feminist suggestions and stupid changes were ignored by the men around her until she somehow lucked into enough clout, possibly via blackmail, to make her vision "canon".

If it needs to gross $900 million to break even why would they only lose $300 million if it hot $350 million instead of $550 million?

$329 million for the production, $100 million for the promotion (seems low, but that's what deadline is reporting) gives a total estimated cost to the studio of $429 million. Assuming a 50/50 split with the theatres, they'd need $858 million in billings to break even. If I had to guess, this will probably fizzle out before it hits $600 million.

It will fizzle out before $450m

I don't think it's fifty fifty in foreign countries, the studios will get only 20 to 40 % abroad.

    Kathleen Kennedy doesn't think
    she's a woman
she just feels her way through life

I used to want Kathleen to be fired, but now I unironically want her to stay on and keep churning out flops so that Disney dies a little bit sooner.

Insider here. Most of this film was likely generated by some outsourced machine learning "engine". They sent some principal photography and storyboards for the unfinished scenes to India and got back a near complete "product". Everyone is aware it looks like shit but my buddy did some digging and he thinks the studios aren't paying more than $20,000 total for the CGI of an entire movie. We've been debating whether it's really some kind of engine or just a sweatshop of indian "animators" going frame by frame. We've been calling it PooAI.

The first three Indiana Jones movies (AKA the real ones) were always about religion. The powerful artifacts that Indy rescued, always worked against the wicked men that would try to use them for evil purposes. Since this was written by moronic atheists who were told they were special by their high school creative writing teacher, they went with science fiction. Really shitty science fiction. It makes the last season of Sliders look good. Even Crystal Skull kind of stuck with wicked people trying to misuse a powerful artifact for evil and getting fried for it. I was honestly expecting Voller to be killed by the Dial of Destiny, but he ends up getting shot by Woman King Helena, then dies in a plane crash. I’m positive that none of the writers ever watched the original movies.
