So, it happened AGAIN. We can blame Brie, we can blame the crappy CGI, we can blame the incel review bombers, we can praise Avatar's effort but the truth is it's simply not enough. Quippy humour, awful villains, diversity casting you name it, it all stinks.

Don't get me wrong, I still have full faith in Feige and the lads, but MASSIVE improvements in the box office are desperately needed in the summer. Otherwise I'm not very optimistic about the next movie, or our chances of breaking 2 billies in the next Avengers. Not like this. What do you think, /mug/? Should we beg for Robert Downey Jr. to come back or is Ms. Marvel a better leader for the Avengers going forward? #TONYSTARK or #MSMARVEL?

You can blame Marvel for releasing a film no one wanted with characters no one cares about just because they want to promote Diversity and Inclusion. Its going to cost them $300 million and the shareholders arent going to be pleased.

Marvel is as beloved as usual.

Stop with wokism and feminism, unless you give us the fanservice we want.

        >the entire fricking reason disney bought marvel was to target males
Marvels had a +60% male audience, they already have that market so they're trying to expand the brand to women and other minorities and that's what's killing the whole thing.

They've taken the problem with American comic books and successfully translated it to American comic movies.
American comics love to tie-in stories and create huge teams and reboot with different characters and generally do boring multiverse shit. This is due to the writers themselves being bored with their own work and lacking the creativity to keep a single story (and universe) interesting. No matter how cool a Marvel comic book cover looks, a rando off the street isn't going to buy it, because in order to know what the frick is going on you need to have read dozens of other books, and in the case of these movies - watched a bunch of shit on Disney plus.
Comic book movies need to tell a self-contained story and keep it interesting without relying on tie-ins and multiverse shit.

        Anonymous

Couple things wrong with your theories. One is that they lack creativity. They don't. But the writers are like children playing "superman vs. the hulk" with action figures. That is their fantasy and their audience loves it. Second is the idea that they can't keep a story interesting. It's the suits that want stories to go on forever because characters/IP are investments and an investment that doesn't make money is a liability. I imagine lots of writers hit a point where they want to bring a story/character to a close, because they had an ending in mind or because they have no more stories to tell. That's the point where the suits hand that character to a different writer for a reboot or multiverse revamp. The root of all evil and the enemy of all art is the profit motive.

You're giving too much credit to writers and directors. The problem is the inmates are running the asylum and the suits are too scared to say anyhting because they don't want a racism or sexism scandal like when Ray Fisher or John Boyega tried to rattle the cage.

Everyone in the industry is so far up their own ass right now and lacking in self awareness. Ironically, shrewd businessmen detached from the process putting their foots down would actually turn things around but that's not happening right now.

Disney is, and now they are falling victim to the woke cultists who have poisoned the studio from the inside out with some ideology. The suits are powerless to save it unless they almost entirely clean house and rescind all their work policies, which will never happen because the majority of that companies employees are woke cultists.

woke philosophy is a brain cancer designed to control how and what people think. It was meant to effect stupid, easily impressionable people, who want to "do good," and "be better." What the smug leftist morons forgot was this: they are also idiots. They got high on their own supply to the point that their own philosophy became unmanageable as the people who were supposed to be managing it were just products of their own control system. It became self recursive, an almost baroque abstraction of itself. And now we have The Marvels getting green lit while Captain America is going through enough reshoots to make a whole other film. Easy money was a mistake and these companies will never recover from multi hundred million dollar quarterly losses with the economy in the state it is in. The market rejected your self-indulgent thesis Get fricked.

nobody in Hollywood gives a shit anymore. It's all a huge scam to line the pockets of their friend. Instead of just casting a new guy to play Luke Skywalker, they went with hiring a guy to play him and then paying VFX to put a soulless version of Hamill's face on him. This doesn't make business sense. They don't care about making money.

The people who greenlight this shit do not watch movies. They look to paul from marketing and focus groups which say the demos with the most cash to spend(that they will spend on movies) are center-left women with children, gays, and black/hispanic families. And they tell people they want women empowerment, less breasts, and diversity. But they don't actually want that.

Much more than that. The budget was 270m, Disney spends 150m on marketing for marvel movies so 420. Studios only get 60% of the domestic revenue, which is only 27m out of 45m, so they’ll be at -393m.
