What the frick were they thinking when they introduced Dulcy? Even as a child I thought she felt out of place and terrible.

It was a forced mandate by ABC, Ben Hurst was not too happy about this. ABC wanted another female character in the cast. Dulcy was the character concept that got approved

        >Dulcy was the character concept that got approved
Well why did they make that concept in the first place?

This. They could have just drawn up a female beaver or a bird or something.
Or frick, they could have taken the easy way out and drawn up a girl hedgehog.

Now that I’m taking another look at her, this has to be one of the most racist caricatures ever in cartoons

Legit one of the most disgusting character designs ever spawned. I think the fact that she completely clashes with both Sonic AND the rest of the characters that already clash with Sonic's design just makes it even worse.

Let's not pretend it's any better in the games. Screensaver Sonic and Adventure have him in the real world where the characters are completely out of place, Maria in SA2 looks more like she has alien DNA than Shadow does, Black Doom looks even more out of place next to the Heroes character models, Dark Gaia and the monsters in 06 look like generic JRPG enemies, wisps look like they belong in a kiddier series like nuclassic does, everything in Black Knight and Secret Rings, Sonic is no stranger to out of place designs. Dulcy is just plain ugly. The worst part is she's actually busted as frick, like on par with Sonic, she's just incompetent which could be excusable but her "starts talking to her mom when she hits her head" schtick makes Pontaff look like comedic geniuses.

How do you feel about Boom's reorientation of design, specifically within the TV show?

Indifferent, I see each continuity as its own thing. I didn't like Knuckles at first but he grew on me as that show's version of him. Like I said being different or out of place isn't an issue since it's basically inherent to the franchise, it's just Dulcy's character isn't written well enough to help me accept her in spite of her design. I feel like I remember not disliking her in the comic as much but it's been a while.

    >When Dulcy's not on screen, the rest of the cast should be asking, "Where's Dulcy?"

Only because they're afraid she'll crash into them

I like how Antoine wasn't included in Sonic Spinball like Sally, Rotor and Bunnie were.

    >But muh le war
Robotnik is the most moronic genius man in the world, Sonic and Tails beat singlehandedly and their friends join to help if it's a weekend and they have no laundry to do that day

It’s a 90’s kids cartoon, enjoy it for what it is. It’s not meant to be taken that seriously. This show is no more serious or dark than that old Care Bears cartoon from the 80’s
