An actual quote from showrunner: >Mike McMahan: I don't think anybody wants to watch made-to-order TV. That's why we're fighting AI. It should be what I feel we need, and what the actors have brought to the table.
>don't think anybody wants to watch made-to-order TV
homie, you are making a cheap family guy style adult cartoon out of a oversaturated and overmilked franchise that is shitting 10 spin-offs per year because it's streaming service has nothing else
You are not a restaurant, you are not even the McDonald's, you are working on the Subway of animation
>left is a still of an animation made to fit a certain budget >right is an AI generated single image and good luck getting it to produce 23 more like this with all the details the same to get a single second of animation with currently available technology with the same budget
As for the quote, i agree. Infinite choice for most people will just create limited material because if the average person isn't very creative
This is false, I really wish people would stop saying this. Most the budget is wasted on VA's and ad's. Yes glorious Nippon VA's make fricking bank but its nowhere near as moronic as western va's plus jp ones make a shit load of money from other things. Also money going towards over 9000 management/directors, and then wasting a shitload of money sending it over seas to be animated. American animation costs so much because of moronic management same as everything else. These frickers steal all the money and spend the baremin to make the product. Its like this with any fricking western product. If you compare how capitalism works in Asian countries you'll understand why the budget is lower and production is better. And no everyone does not work 60 hour weeks this is also a meme nor do they make frick all unless they are part time freeters on shitty short time contract work. Once Japan starts investing in AI for animation shits going to be insane. No need to waste money on tween shit over seas everything can be done inhouse. Money and time saved which can be spent more on key frames backgrounds and etc. Its gonna be amazing seeing Japan really shit on western animation budgets stay the same but even trash cashgrab anime is shitting out 00/10's movie animation quality.
Most Models can be trained to a specific style and you just extrapolate body types, especially since Lower Decks uses an artstyle/model similar to Rick & Morty. You can batch out 6-12 pics in 2 minutes so all you need to do is have someone sort the pics into folders based on closeness to the style and then a second group test these pics like a screener/preview. At best all you need a a few rough draft artists to train a model for each character/type, ChatGPT based on Joss Whedon & Dan Harmon, and a few lines from the VA's and you can vouce morph them from schmucks of the street with Sovits-SVC. >TL;DR
It's really easy to AI the hell out these shows, it's the legality that holds it up but that'll be a non-issue in 2-4 years because of the strikes & revised contracts.
>Why copy flashslop in AI
Not only is it cheap to animate via flash models, it's also becoming easier to import into animation programs like ToonBoom which a lot of shows use such as Rick & Morty, most of Fox/FX's animated library, half a season of Owl House, South Park, and even Shows like Steven Universe used it for storyboarding. A modular one stop slop shop from freeware AI models means offically corps can bypass the AI Copyright Rule since an "Artist" did work on it with tiych ups and copy/pastes into the Asset Library. >TL;DR
Money.gif but also because you can just hire scabs/contractors and bypass SAG-AFTRA Guild shit with a bit of corpo finagling or outsourcing to India/Korea.
What part of Owl House uses ToonBoom? >Shows like Steven Universe used it for storyboarding

Sugarcube, the Korean Animator for Owl House uses ToonBoom, both Storyboard Pro & Harmony. >Episodes animated by Sugarcube
Season 1
I Was a Teenage Abomination
Covention
Something Ventured, Someone Framed
Adventures in The Elements
The First Day
Really Small Problems
Understanding Willow
Wing it Like Witches
Young Blood, Old Souls >Season 2
Separate Tides
Echoes of the Past
Keeping up A-fear-ances
Hunting Palismen
Eda's Requiem
Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door
Eclipse Lake
Follies at the Coven Day Parade
Elsewhere and Elsewhen
Any Sport in a Storm
Reaching Out

King's Tide >Season 3
Thanks to Them
For the Future
Watching and Dreaming >Owl Pellets
Welcome to Hexside
Eda's Cursed Brush
Paint Scare!
Art Lessons with Luz
Coven Lovin Soap Opera
I don't count the Opener Animation since that was a mixed project for very pic related circumstamces but in hindsight, that's way more than half a season in ToonBoom. >Storyboard Pro
Still owned by ToonBoom studios and uses their proprietary asset library system which is the crux of the issue. While Sugar outsourced the "hand drawn" animation to Korea, the final product is still touched up in Toonz Harlequin and Photoshop Elements, both of which are getting AI assisted tools. You can even generate AI Models in Adobe Firefly, Port that to Illustrator/Photoshop, then into ToonBoom Harmony easily. Granted when she was animatimg these tools were still in DevMode but now they're at the forfront so Sugar might live to see a Bastardized Steven Universe AISloppa Show even more subversive & souless than her & Muto combined.

>Outing yourself as a Nugay this hard.
Or this is a really bad bot which is even more ironic.
Ironically AI might be a better cover then by the quality of current shows today. >Inb4, it's not off model, it's SOVL.
You think a corpo bigwig will care when the bot can do the same with no breaks, overtime, sick leave, or lip about rainbowflaggotry holding the churn from slopping down the pipes?
>It's really easy to AI the hell out these shows, it's the legality that holds it up but that'll be a non-issue in 2-4 years because of the strikes & revised contracts.
Didn't writers and such come to a deal with studios? I doubt we'll be so lucky.
>Mike McMahan: I don't think anybody wants to watch made-to-order TV. That's why we're fighting AI. It should be what I feel we need, and what the actors have brought to the table.
HAVE YOU FRICKING FORGOTTEN WHAT FRANCHISE YOU ARE WORKING ON?!?!
He's right that made to order tv doesn't sound very interesting. The problem is "what [he] thinks we need" is not very appealing either. So between the two, I'd probably take the made to order tbdesu.
These writers only know one way to write. Made-to-order is a direct upgrade, and if you’re more creative with than those Hollywood hacks (and you probably are), why would you want to go back to their shitty writing like a battered wife?
>I don't think anybody wants to watch made-to-order TV
Think again. Why wouldn't I, as a consumer, not want content catered exclusively to me?
It would also end this endless culture war. Everyone gets the shows they want without having to put up with things that were put in to pander to other demographics that clash with their own.
>Why wouldn't I, as a consumer, not want content catered exclusively to me?
NTA but it's soulless spoonfeeding. Perhaps you're an infant and want to giggle and drool at pandering content while clapping your hands like a moron, but not everyone wants that.
You're a consumer, anon. All consumption of visual media is inherently spoonfeeding because you don't have to do anything. Now go pretend to be smart somewhere else.
>Now go pretend to be smart somewhere else.
That's a funny way of saying "don't be moronic". Many people like to be challenged and want to experience new things. BOLDLY GO, you might say. Why are you even watching Trek if you don't agree with this?
>Many people like to be challenged
Challenge me with an art style that doesn’t look like derivative adult animated sitcom crap. Challenge me with writing that doesn’t follow the same hacky 2010s self-aware formula.
Lower Standards is the lowest common denominator crap.
Your argument is pretentious and moronic. How do you not realize with AI's potential YOU can challenge yourself and make your own creations instead of sitting on your ass and passively viewing whatever the corporations deem fit to show you? And if you're too lazy for that you can now watch ideas from small time independent developers whose views and budget are not bound by what is considered acceptable by a handful of Hollywood elites. >inb4 the tech isn't there yet!
Then your argument isn't that AI is ethically bad, it's that it needs to be improved.
>It would also end this endless culture war. Everyone gets the shows they want without having to put up with things that were put in to pander to other demographics that clash with their own.
Silly, chud. That’s why they want to have a monopoly on storytelling -- so you’ll be FORCED to watch what they write. They don’t want you making your own entertainment.
>does AI "art" that doesn't even look good >shits in his actual artist brother's mouth and calls him a lesser artist >doesn't know anything about the history of weapon and screeches like a dying baby whenever someone calls him out on it
Wow, what a piece of shit.
The first few episodes are grating. I know it's annoying hearing the show gets better, but Mariner is definitely a character that starts off shit then eventually gets her shit together, kinda.
It's actually an appeal of the show to see her character progression.
Cons: >Relies on callbacks and metahumor, without any big sci fi ideas of it own like TNG or the adventure of TOS. >Sped-up dialogue to give the impression of snappiness, rather than genuinely eloquent writing. >Subpar a/b plotlines that feel forced and don't really support each other. >Largely neutral-to-unlikeable cast.
Pros: >Nice music. >Conceptually cute female characters, as far as this style would allow.
I am ashamed to admit I still watch it, but it is through gritted teeth.
Trek tradition to have a shaky first season but there are good episodes by episode 4 and you start to see the heart shine through by the end of episode 7 and season 2 onward is genuinely good so long as you are willing to admit to how silly of a setting Trek can be.
Calls on help of the fans for what? Good lord what a shitty clickbait title, as this implies fans of the show know what prodigy is. Or really know much of star trek at all, which most don't including myself. I've only watched TNG and deep space 9 plus random episodes of random series.
Also I really really fricking hate Beckett as do most people. And no it has nothing to do with her being le heckin strong kneegrow wimmizy. She's just human trash she annoying as frick and everything about her characters. WOW SUCH REBEL MUCH QUIRCKY just fricking no no no no fricking no everything about her is just awful. She ruins every fricking scene and every episode she is an unredeemable dumpsterfire and it has nothing to do with race or gender because its fricking startrek no one gives a frick about this in the 23/4 century, starways has always been about breaking sterotypes/tradtions/roles/etc everyone knows this unless they're secondaries or know frick all about the series. The fact still remains shes fricking awful and ruins the show. Plus there is already a black dude in the main cast. Why did they not make her something like south east Asian or fricking a south American native. God I hate her so much also what kind of name is beckett mariner for a woman becket is a man name. Lower decks would be over 9000 time better if they killed her off but its star trek so doing that would be hard so lieks throw her in a worm hole or some shit.
Spotted the loser.
I mean I may be going out on a limb here..
But this person is either single and complains "no one gets them" or is with someone who REALLY wants to break up with them but knows this homosexual will go on a shooting spree.
I also suspect they only have watch the "approved meme episodes of TOS" and still don't get them,
I may be wrong, but these shows are animated on tweens, not frame by frame
this way, is not only cheaper, but also it's not made by thousands of slaves in sweatshop
I've seen a gif of western animation vs anime, it was rick and morty done with tweens in 5 seconds, it looked like shit
>tweens, not frame by frame
anon a tween means the in-between frames of animation which have less detail/etc to theme. These shows are made with puppetry animation which is why they look so cheap. You draw something out and give it a skeleton like a doll so you can move stuff around without animating it.
It's like basically creating a bunch of dolls&sprite sheets like in your old vidya gayms to animate with instead of having to redraw someone every frame. Its a tool granted its a poor used tool to push out ultra cheap animation. Puppet/rigging can be used to create amazing animation its just these people don't care why the frick would they.
I have posted a bunch of times in the thread but trust me, first few episodes suck ass but it gets better after that and only goes up from there if you are into Trek and aren't some gay who thinks that the setting has to totes be taken serious all the time.
Actual answer of what this is about is that Mike wants people to voice their support so Discovery knows people like it since the brand has gone to such shit with the now cancelled live action shows that they are doing a reset with a new line of shows and leads to revive interest and LD is in a weird spot as being the only remaining show from before the upcoming relaunch and it's cheap enough to make that it might stick around and might not. Now whether or not it deserves to stick around is a totally different argument.
So now Strange New Worlds season 3? It wasn't my favorite show and the Lower Decks episode even points out its not canon aligned, but I don't like it ending in a cliffhanger.
Where did this meme come from that SNW is cancelled? It was ready to film the day before the strike and the people behind the scenes say Paramount wants it to resume the second the strike ends. There don't seem to be any production issues outside of maybe sharing the AR wall with Section 31's team.
how the frick are their like 5 Star Trek shows running, I have met maybe one person under 38 who watches Star Trek and she was just saying she did for nerd attention.
Star Trek Strange New Worlds
Star Trek Discovery
Star Trek Lower Decks
Star Trek Very Short Treks (short series, but it came out last month so I'm counting it.)
Star Trek Prodigy (production ended, but season 2 is forthcoming.)
The Ready Room (it's an aftershow talk show. I'll count it.)
Starfleet Academy (upcoming)
None of it is watchable. Starfleet Academy will be produced by Alex Krutzman, make of it what you will.
Season 2 already finished airing with indefinite production pause and likely cancellation of season 3
Final season done production and waiting to air
Ongoing
No you don't get to count 2-3 minute youtube shorts
Cancelled and discarded by Discovery with the second season only getting to air because it was a joint project with Nickelodeon
Podcast bullshit
Early production
So of the actual Star Trek in universe shows there's only Lower Decks and Discovery right now.
That's exactly WHY there are so many small projects in a short time frame, they desperately want the IP to catch on with a younger audience so it doesn't fall by the wayside.
Nothing was being done with the IP for over a decade. And because Disney was ruining star wars and disney thought it would be a great idea to have over 9000 spin offs to see what shit sticks. Some suit went holy frick wait we have the right to star wars quick start creating shows. Everything has been considered fricking trash with fans begging for everything to be canceled.
Lower decks was the only good thing people liked, but its still not up to snuff for star trek, its just look at this reference we pulled from the wiki. SEE WE CARE ABOUT STAR TREK its like the writing can be fun but then they shove in this garbage that ~~*hollywood*~~ loves yet the public hates.
What exactly are current fans supposed to do? Kidnap old fans who've left the franchise and force them to watch it at gunpoint? Spend money they can't afford on merchandise that doesn't exist? Reee at Paramount and accuse them of erasing lesbians and robosexuals?
I'm not trying to be snide, I am at a loss for what they think should happen. The only thing within their power is making stuff people actually want to watch, but they've steadfastly refused to do so. Costs are going to go up because actors and writers are getting a raise. Do they feel studios are obligated to continue throwing money into a hole? They might as well go to the homes of Paramount executives and physically rob them. There's more honesty in that.
Simply keep watching the show so that they can have the numbers to prove it's popular. After the strike, the showrunners now can have access to the amount of people actually watching specific shows on stream, so it can actually help.
how is the writing and character development in this show? are there gays or lesbians in it? it just has that soulless low effort art style that makes me not want to watch it, even if just one episode.

He invited the comparisons to Kirk and Spock, the duo that is quite literally the most famous example of ambiguous gays in all of media.
Roddenberry wasn’t diplomatic, he was genuinely fascinated by the idea. Enough to tease it in the novelization of The Motion Picture he penned, wherein he has Spock exclaim “my lover!” in the Vulcan language when saying goodbye to Jim. >inb4 why not just make Kirk and Spock gays lol!?

Here’s what happened, anon. Most of the show’s writing staff was replaced after S2, so it just wasn’t the same show anymore after that. The “moments” you mention were put in the show by people who are no longer working on it.
It’s not a coincidence that this show’s popularity here dropped off a cliff after S2. Because it basically died, Lower Decks people here liked died. The soul was removed alongside its old writing staff. Pre-S3 Lower Decks and post-S2 Lower Decks are basically two different shows. If you look at the names of the people writing the new season, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone who worked on the previous three.

A little Lesbian. romance that doesn't go very far. They have an episode about an asexual engineer, played mostly for laughs.
>it just has that soulless low effort art style that makes me not want to watch it, even if just one episode.
It's not low effort. Most of the budget there goes into space combat and aliens. The humans though are cheaped out sitcom animation. But if you're a hypersensitive twinkie, I'm not going to tell you it's a must see.
>asexual
I don't think he is asexual, I think he just avoids having sex because of the customs of his people and he really really really wants to be an engineer and having sex will prevent him from being one.
I think half of the budget came from another studio and they may take their stake out.
I'm not really sure, all I know it's that the show is in money troubles.
>The sooner Lower Decks dies the better. Star Trek has taken a real beating with shit media WORSE than Star Wars
Except Lower deck is one of the best thing to happen to Trek.
This, I honestly love how lower decks is willing to take a risk and be an intentionally funny show but still have major league trek moments. Hell there is one episode that ends with a really hopeful note where the characters live in a society where one can say 'trust the system' and be sincere about it because it is true.
why do you want to have fanart of that emotional trainwreck?! I mean she is such a fricking hotheaded person that she had the gall to give a reluctant 'live long and prosper...sir!' to her former captain for god's sake!
Well her fellow lower deckers were right in that she has lost all control, I mean my god she decided to extend the range of their sensors based on an algorithm she created based on the idea of a hunch in the name of exploration! How in the frick she was able to get a position on a Vulcan ship is beyond me!
If they keep making shows in this art style I'm going to switch to Team AI too. The artists have to do better if they don't want to be replaced. >but it's da executives who want it
Then kill them, whatever. I don't care what the solution is. Just do it.
Letting the WGA get what they want was a mistake. But it’ll also kill streaming (and shows like this by extension) faster, so maybe it was a good thing after all.
>Letting the WGA get what they want was a mistake
No, it wasn't, you fricking moron. It ensure they have enough writers and give them access to the actual numbers their show are doing so that they can not be canned for BS reasons.
Choosing corporations over people is the ultimate virgin move
Letting the WGA get what they want was a mistake. But it’ll also kill streaming (and shows like this by extension) faster, so maybe it was a good thing after all.
5 years from now your new favorite show will be out and it will only exist thanks to the WGA winning.
>5 years from now your new favorite show will be out
Highly unlikely that my new favorite show 5 years from now will even be American, let alone written by WGA writers.
This show’s art style was a conscious decision by the show’s creator, not a result of corporate meddling.
When asked by Ketwolski why he chose to make it look like Rick and Morty he just said “I’m sorry it doesn’t look like anime” in a condescending tone.

NTA but to a moron they all look the same and cannot see how there are subtleties in design and are easily swayed by cherrypicking. Hell I will even be charitable and say that they look the same as in the way all anime has very similar general design but people working within that medium are able to differentiate in subtle ways, with varying results of quality.
I like how his buff ass body was enough to help convince a planet with like 3 different living gods that the federation was wise enough for them to hear them out on as to why people born with outie bellybuttons are worthy of life.
I watched the first episode of this and I cringed so hard I stopped watching half way through the episode. How did it last this long? It was obviously a worse ripoff of Rick and Morty.
Yeah it is really bad that way for the first three episodes where it is a low rent rick and morty but after that the executives looked the other way and it genuinely gets better after that and before the season ends it feels like it has some solid writing and by the time season 2 hits it is genuinely good and only gets better.
yeah sorry bye bye

fixed it for you homey!
You can do that but why the hell would you if this style is so repugnant?
Storyboard Pro is not the same thing as Harmony. Is that what you meant?
Sugarcube, the Korean Animator for Owl House uses ToonBoom, both Storyboard Pro & Harmony.

This is the most schizo post I've ever seen
>Outing yourself as a Nugay this hard.
Or this is a really bad bot which is even more ironic.
This genuinely looks better because AI “draws” these lines instead of using Flash puppets.
You're both blind and stupid. Being messy and uneven is not "better".
>Anon don't understand the difference between animation and a picture
Anon is unironically the same type of person to see a screenshot of some Cinemaphile shit and go "Wow! That is such good animation!"
We’re on the verge of discovering the Holodeck and people who write on Star Trek hate it. Amazing.
B-but the conservatards were the ones supposed to lose their jobs in Star Trek, not us!!!!
No one working on paramount's rape of a dead franchise gives a shit about star trek.
Right is just a still while left is animated t b h. It would be impossible in today's economy to make a show looking like the right pic.
The AI can't animate for shit, and it won't be able to for many years.
>So between the two, I'd probably take the made to order tbdesu.
AI trannies literally connot read without a chatbot to hold their hand, huh.
There's always a price to be paid, anon. Be careful what you wish for.
reminder this is what a pro ai poster is like
?si=G6nVjkHAgGSPai1I
>does AI "art" that doesn't even look good
>shits in his actual artist brother's mouth and calls him a lesser artist
>doesn't know anything about the history of weapon and screeches like a dying baby whenever someone calls him out on it
Wow, what a piece of shit.
Prodigy?
Is this any good.
I just watched two episodes of the first season and it didn't call my attention.
>Is this any good
The only thing it’s good at is the relentless shilling.
The first few episodes are grating. I know it's annoying hearing the show gets better, but Mariner is definitely a character that starts off shit then eventually gets her shit together, kinda.
It's actually an appeal of the show to see her character progression.
Bojack Horseman taught me that I genuinely don't care about character progression in a comedy.
The MC goes lesbian to complete her transformation into Korra, you mean.
No I don't and the lesbian doesn't last long.
It doesn’t last long in Korra either. That’s not the point.
Cons:
>Relies on callbacks and metahumor, without any big sci fi ideas of it own like TNG or the adventure of TOS.
>Sped-up dialogue to give the impression of snappiness, rather than genuinely eloquent writing.
>Subpar a/b plotlines that feel forced and don't really support each other.
>Largely neutral-to-unlikeable cast.
Pros:
>Nice music.
>Conceptually cute female characters, as far as this style would allow.
I am ashamed to admit I still watch it, but it is through gritted teeth.
Trek tradition to have a shaky first season but there are good episodes by episode 4 and you start to see the heart shine through by the end of episode 7 and season 2 onward is genuinely good so long as you are willing to admit to how silly of a setting Trek can be.
>how silly of a setting Trek can be
Oh frick off.
Oh right the robin hood episode of tng and vaseball ds9 was hecking super cereal
Because the live-action shows totally didn't have non-serious episodes, right? Some fan you are.
>so long as you are willing to admit to how silly of a setting Trek can be.
Okay, so it's shit then.
Hope it gets cancelled.
>t. guy who demands The Magnificent Ferengi to be taken seriously as an episode.
I love the frick out of it. Later episodes tone down Mariner from the start, but it still heavily relies on star trek references.
And don't mind the one ban evading shitposter who really REALLY fricking hates this show and lesbians.
I also suspect they only have watch the "approved meme episodes of TOS" and still don't get them,
Why can't they find anyone on the Korean assembly line that can make an artstyle that isn't exactly that.
It’s not that they can’t. They don’t want to.
The last thing you said ironically doesn't apply to this show
So what you’re telling is that it looks like shit on purpose. Got it.
Who is actually watching these? I've met many people in my time, and I never hear anyone talking about it.
I just can't watch shit that looks like that. It's tiresome.
I know a couple people who do, but they can't actually explain what they like about it so w/e. I just change the topic when it comes up.
Replace that ugly artstyle and return original series' utopia, then I'll consider it.
how the frick are their like 5 Star Trek shows running, I have met maybe one person under 38 who watches Star Trek and she was just saying she did for nerd attention.
5? The only ongoing ones are Discovery and Lower Decks and Discovery is already confirmed to be ending after next season.
Something something squealing abattoir, something something NO.
It was fun while it lasted.
It should have ended before the writers set out to assassinate every character starting from S3 onward
As someone that actually enjoyed a few episodes eat a dick Mike.
I'm losing my pace with this show, I missed last weeks episode and I may miss this week's episode if i don't manage my time right.
It has fans?
who house need to burn down?
Glad to see they ain't doing as well as shills have been claiming. Let it burn.
how is the writing and character development in this show? are there gays or lesbians in it? it just has that soulless low effort art style that makes me not want to watch it, even if just one episode.
No gays and there was a lesbian c plot that lasted 1 season and ended there as well.
The female MC literally goes lesbo after two seasons of teasing her with the male MC.
>teasing mariner and boimler
homie they are just friends and the writing shows that.
It wasn’t always like this, and Paramount wants you to forget about it, but it was part of the intentional lesbian rugpull.
Mariner was ovbiously bi and episode 7 showed they saw themselves as a duo like kirk and spock
>saw themselves as a duo like kirk and spock
This isn’t the gotcha you think it is.
Yes anon people of different sexes can love each other without wanting to frick
Roddenberry is literally saying that they loved each other enough to frick.
Roddenberry is also literally affirming he didn't think of that angle and it wasn't part of the show. He's simply being diplomatic to the fandom.
Your gotcha of his gotcha isn't the gotcha you think it is.
Because it was the fricking 70s, and that’d be career suicide.
L + ratio + you don’t know shit
>A man in authority being embarrssed that an attractive subordinate rather than a friend was rubbing his back means he wants to frick his friend
holy shit, is this some ancient one who wrote gay fanfiction of the two back when it was airing?
I don't ship marinler and would rather not see it happen, but it's very clear what they meant with those Mariner and Boimler moments. It may be teasing or it may be foreshadowing, who knows?
Here’s what happened, anon. Most of the show’s writing staff was replaced after S2, so it just wasn’t the same show anymore after that. The “moments” you mention were put in the show by people who are no longer working on it.
It’s not a coincidence that this show’s popularity here dropped off a cliff after S2. Because it basically died, Lower Decks people here liked died. The soul was removed alongside its old writing staff. Pre-S3 Lower Decks and post-S2 Lower Decks are basically two different shows. If you look at the names of the people writing the new season, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone who worked on the previous three.
>so it just wasn’t the same show anymore after that
But that's not true.
>It’s not a coincidence that this show’s popularity here dropped off a cliff after S2.
That's not true either, anon. Why are you so full of shit?
>Lower Decks people here liked died.
No, it didn't. What actually happened is that someone throw a pointless an unjustified tantrum over something that ended up being completely inconsequential and yet he is still seething about it. He single handedly killed all discussion about this show here.
>Pre-S3 Lower Decks and post-S2 Lower Decks are basically two different shows.
Not true either. At this point, I have to assume you didn't watch the show.
Are you familiar with the Ship of Theseus? If a show gradually replaces its entire writers room, is it really the same show? I don’t think so.
>If a show gradually replaces its entire writers room, is it really the same show?
As it is the case for all shows, yes.
Glad we could settle that.
Except it’s not the same show. All the creatives (save for the showrunner) involved in its conception from the earliest stages have departed. This kind of turnover is unprecedented in Star Trek.
And it shows.
>Except it’s not the same show.
It is.
> All the creatives (save for the showrunner) involved in its conception from the earliest stages have departed.
Common to many show, that still is the same one, especially when the tone is usually set by the showrunner.
>This kind of turnover is unprecedented in Star Trek.
Not really. TNG also had writers turnover.
If anything, this should tell you a lot about the showrunner, since every single member of the writing staff he originally worked on the show with has since left. Even Discovery managed to keep a lot of people around, despite going for twice as long and having twice as many episodes as this.
>If anything, this should tell you a lot about the showrunner, since every single member of the writing staff he originally worked on the show with has since left
Not really. People can depart for many reasons.
Every single one of them?
Yes. It's not like it's a lot of people in the first place.
>If a person's body gradually replaces all of its cells, is it really the same person? I don’t think so.
Ftfy. Also KEK
Brain cells (ie neurons) don’t get replaced, and they’re what makes you you. And the show’s writers room is its brain. Heart cells don’t get replaced either.
Which explains why this show lost its heart.
>Brain cells (ie neurons) don’t get replaced
You might want to check again, grandpa. We've made more findings since the 90s when you last opened a science book.
>Heart cells don’t get replaced either.
Hearts pump blood. They have nothing to do with a person's mind nor soul, and its link to a person's being is a cultural construct invented by the chocolate industry.
>You might want to check again, grandpa. We've made more findings since the 90s when you last opened a science book.
There are some new findings that suggest new brain cells might get produced, but it’s unlikely that the entirety of your brain gets replaced. I rest my case.
>I rest my case.
You never had a case to begin with. Writing show does not work like a brain.
>the entirety of your brain
They replenish gradually over time like how body cells are replenished, only at a much slower rate.
>make half-assed conjecture
>"I rest my case!"
Kek every time.
>The “moments” you mention were put in the show by people who are no longer working on it.
Unfortunately as long as Tawney ships it, it has a large chance of actually happening. Tawney is all in on the marinler train.
>Because it basically died
Most shows die after their second season. Season 1 was mediocre, but it's gotten better. That's just how it is.
Tawny Newsome’s heart is in the right place but she’s powerless. Even more so now with both of her guilds on strike.
>Even more so now with both of her guilds on strike.
That's not what make hr powerless.
She got McMahan to give her the DS9 scene instead of another Mariner/Jennifer scene.
>another lesbian scene
>shoehorning the lesbians into the scene with Quark
I don’t know which one’s more offensive.
Neither.
1. she is Bi. Was set clearly as bi in the middle of season 2.
2. We had to wait 5 season and two movies after 2 season of teasing Troy and Riker, yet you don't see people complain for every non-troy love-interest Riker got into.
Stop fricking complaining about this, there is no reason to.
>how is the writing and character development in this show?
Baseline star trek series. Lots of references, some lolrandom.
>are there gays or lesbians in it?
Is this shit finally getting cancelled? If so, good!
What he hell's happening with Prodigy?
I think half of the budget came from another studio and they may take their stake out.
I'm not really sure, all I know it's that the show is in money troubles.
Season 2 cancelled
>The sooner Lower Decks dies the better. Star Trek has taken a real beating with shit media WORSE than Star Wars
Except Lower deck is one of the best thing to happen to Trek.
This, I honestly love how lower decks is willing to take a risk and be an intentionally funny show but still have major league trek moments. Hell there is one episode that ends with a really hopeful note where the characters live in a society where one can say 'trust the system' and be sincere about it because it is true.
>she literally has a fantasy as part of her core character that she wants to kill many innocent people
No, she doesn't. Why are you making shit up?
The Mandalorian was a global phenomenon the likes of which NuTrek could only dream of.
i just want to see more of the cute vulcan. shame that it's super difficult to come across good fanart of this show
why do you want to have fanart of that emotional trainwreck?! I mean she is such a fricking hotheaded person that she had the gall to give a reluctant 'live long and prosper...sir!' to her former captain for god's sake!
Her "Sir!" unironically sounded angry, even for a human. I'm surprised she wasn't kicked out sooner.
It ensure they have enough writers and give them access to the actual numbers their show are doing so that they can not be canned for BS reasons.
>making stream corpos accountable for their bullshit
>making hack writers accountable for their terrible decisions
>you can only pick 1
Choosing corporations over people is the ultimate virgin move
5 years from now your new favorite show will be out and it will only exist thanks to the WGA winning.
>5 years from now your new favorite show will be out
Highly unlikely that my new favorite show 5 years from now will even be American, let alone written by WGA writers.
You're shilling for a union. And a pozzed union at that. That's like one step below rooting for corporations. With A.I. we won't need either.
This show’s art style was a conscious decision by the show’s creator, not a result of corporate meddling.
When asked by Ketwolski why he chose to make it look like Rick and Morty he just said “I’m sorry it doesn’t look like anime” in a condescending tone.
This show looks like shit by design.
Team AI it is then.
>When asked by Ketwolski why he chose to make it look like Rick and Morty
But it doesn't look like Rick and Morty.
Also, it actually has good animation.
lol…
>are you blind?
Are you?
So, you are blind, got it. the only one you might have a point for is Rick and Morty and Solar Opposite, who are purposely made to be in the same style.
They literally all look the exact same.
They literally don't. and the Lower Decks one objectively come out as the most dissimilar from the rest. Seriously, get either your brain or your eyes checked. Or maybe both.
>But it doesn't look like Rick and Morty.
Black person are you blind?
I like how his buff ass body was enough to help convince a planet with like 3 different living gods that the federation was wise enough for them to hear them out on as to why people born with outie bellybuttons are worthy of life.
>Tendi's design is rick and morty tier
FRICK YOU I LOVE THE GREEN BEAN!
What will happen to the cute cat?
i liked the part where the yellow shirt guy inflated like a balloon LOL
I watched the first episode of this and I cringed so hard I stopped watching half way through the episode. How did it last this long? It was obviously a worse ripoff of Rick and Morty.
Yeah it is really bad that way for the first three episodes where it is a low rent rick and morty but after that the executives looked the other way and it genuinely gets better after that and before the season ends it feels like it has some solid writing and by the time season 2 hits it is genuinely good and only gets better.
