How much worse does JJK get? I enjoyed the anime so far (for what it is anyway, it's an action-comedy capeshit with some funny moments and some great action) but everything I read from manga readers is almost overwhelmingly negative.

it's so narratively unsatisfying, almost on purpose, with absolutely schizophrenic pacing
something "significant" is set up and an gets a piss weak resolution IMMIDIATELY, rendering what was set up as a complete joke almost
it's like ruined orgasm the manga and the author thinks it's funny

not even a spoiler, what comes next immidiately after shibuya is a massive tengen exposition dump about how the gojo prison cube has a moronicly massive exploit the villain is unaware of, that renders it almost useless as a prison
along with that is a massive exposition dump for kenjaku's moronic "battle royale" game that everyone is forced to participate in as part of his evil master plan

get ready to be introduced to so many new people that are labeled "on the level of gojo satoru" that it's almost farcical
the fights become jojo stand fights and the entire atmosphere shifts completely from horror elements to fricking goofy lighthearted slapstick, even thought the world is despair and the stakes have never been higher

Manhwa is aggressively ugly and soulless. I understand that gender relations are insane in SK, but the sheer amount of rape and gender hatred in manhwa is at least unnerving.

Why is the fighting system just random magic shit, it's literally "just do anything you like with magic super powers".

      Anonymous

I disagree. Pretty much any magic based shounen is just "everyone has their unique personal power" but at least this actually feels like an unified system in that there's commonalities to it everyone uses.

The Kakashi sensei guy literally just does random magic shit while removing his eye patch.

said. There's no overarching system like Naruto, people have absolutely random powers and the only commonality is that several characters use "black flash" aka ultra-special punch.

        Anonymous

Most shounen try to have some kind of logic to their power systems but it is hard to stick to it because of power level wankery where characters can just ass pull powers.

I recently got cajoled by my friend into watching JJK. He kept going on about how great it is -- in his own words, the story's nothing special, but it's a thrilling "turn your head off, bro" spectacular.

The first season was the definition of what zoomers call "mid". The art style and the animation were nice enough, but there is absolutely no story to it, no characters (w/ the exception of Nanami) or motivation for anything that is happening. The basic set-up is a mish-mash of Naruto and Bleach, but it does not go beyond a basic sketch. The villains have no identifiable motive or identity, besides maybe Mahito (whose VA was pretty good). There are absolutely no interesting abilities whatsoever and even though the anime is ostensibly about "sorcerers", 95% of the fights are just basic H2H combat. Also the colour palette was for the most part nauseating (shit brown, rust red, vomit green).

S2 was pretty much the same in most regards. The direction and the animation changed very noticeably (although not always for the better) -- enough in fact to warrant S2 being called a different show -- but the problems of S1 got exacerbated even further. There is no story and no characters, and because of this the action feels completely hollow and unengaging. Compare literally any fight in JJK to something like Sasuke vs Itachi (the culmination of much turmoil and anguish for pretty much all the main characters of the story) and you'll see precisely what I mean. The only bits I liked were Gojo vs Toji (the heaven&earth line is fricking awesome) and Gojo in the subway. Oh, and the "Special" opening was a banger, one of the best I've seen.

I know this comes off as "popular thing bad", but it truly baffles me to see this praised to the skies. My only explanation is most of the fans are either teenagers or have very limited worldview, or, likely, both. In any case, I've come to the conclusion that 99% of anime simply isn't for me, perhaps I just have an aversion to the genre.

I'm an old gay who's been into shounenshit for a long while. I admit the fights lack emotional impact, but I enjoyed S2 just for being nonstop action. Nothing from S1 feels wasted as it all server as setup to that, you can tell the author started the series with this arc in mind.

S2 is loved because it isn't common for people to see an entire season of anime that is dedicated to one 3-dimensional fight sequence.
It is honestly the best part of the manga and clearly was what the writer planned out most deeply overall.

I'm pretty newbie when it comes to anime but what the frick is the deal with every big anime being an adaptation of a manga that's running like 5 years ahead with no end in sight?
The best ones I've seen so far are short and sweet with a satisfying ending (mainly Mob Psycho and Gurren Lagann). I don't know how I'm supposed to give a shit about stuff like One Punch Man or Chainsaw Man or whatever else is being shilled at me by anime fans when I already know in 10 years time the show will still be running in a perpetual filler arc of ever decreasing quality with the ending being no closer then than it is right now.

It's an enclosed space like a dimension where their innate techniques (like Gojo's limitless or Mahito the guy that that can transfigure your soul with a touch) hit you without any restrictions, so in the domain of Mahito he can do whatever he wants with your soul and doesn't even have to touch you for example.

        Anonymous

Yeah I get that but then again they bring in simple domains and then they start altering their domains and doing them for like a split second and it all gets so fricking confusing just fricking punch each other until the best puncher wins gerdarnit

          Anonymous

Simple domains are just poorgay domains that only exist to stop someone else's from hitting you.
A domain without any kind of technique. Something anyone could do, as a last resort.

Powerlevel shonens that infinitely scale up are moronic and nobody ever did it right
Closest thing is One Punch Man because there's a clear limit for everyone else and you can see progression on the scale
Or saint seiya because the frickers actually bleed a little and get sidelined for 10+ episodes untill they recover and it's generally not instant
