The industry is indeed saved by Dav Pilkey and Japanese people. Any day now, all of the writers, editors, and artists at the big 2 will get job offers from Scholastic and Viz. No one in comics will have to start a gofundme for a dentist appointment ever again. Comics news sites will never fire another journalist as they will be rolling in advertising money. Thank you, Dav Pilkey and your Japanese wife, for proving all the fascists wrong with your strong Christian-themed books.

1960s editors at DC were unironically correct when they said that kids liked marvel because of how crude art was and kids felt it was easier to copy Kirby and Steve ditko's style compared the DC house style.
just look at how popular Manga is. Besides a few artists most of it is really simplistic and easy to copy

This. It's not that manga art is literally crude so much as that it's easy for kids to grasp and easily identifiable. Most cape comics are still paying brazillians and spaniards to crank out overrendered lineart with unappealing styles. There's no fun in these pages.

I used to pick up the old black and white Manga reprints back when they'd put them in floppies when I was a kid because it was easier to copy black and white line art
Color makes it really hard to copy and when publishers moved away from flat colors and used awful digital coloring it became near impossible.

I don’t think children should be this successful in writing stori– WAIT HE’S FIFTY-SEVEN??? I thought he was a child when he wrote the first Captain Underpants books. Didn’t he have a picture of himself as a kid on the About The Author page? Frick me, I was thinking he was around my age and figured all this success would get to him and he would retire before he’s middle aged…!

I guess if you were a dumb kid you could have misinterpreted it that way.

I never said I read it that page. I just made the assumption because of the picture.

He was actually first published straight out of high school because he won a student competition back in the late 80s. He was making children's picture books for a decade before Captain Underpants.
