I guess it’s helpful in a way, makes it easier to know when a flashback takes place

    >Most of the gore was done with practical effects, with CGI only being used for touchups.[16] The filmmakers considered to use some VFX to de-age Bell and Smith due to the fifteen years that have passed since they first appeared in the original Saw trilogy, but they ultimately desisted and Greutert was glad that they didn't de-age the actors, as "some of the films that have de-aged their actors, it puts some distance between the character and the audience", feeling that Bell and Smith have some emotional close-ups that shouldn't be altered.

    Good choice

    A) CGI gore and blood always looked awful. I think they only did it in Saw 3D and Jigsaw before but both looked laughable

    B) Maybe de-aging can be done effectively now. But not on Saws budget. Would rather see kino performances from Tobin Bell and Shawnee than seeing them look a little younger for some nit picking continuity

Wholeheartedly agree. Beginning was too slow. Not as many fun traps, too light on the gore, and I miss the "levels" the contestants had to get through. Also didnt like how John revealed himself. I understand that its personal this time, but he should have done it later on.

How's the twist for this one?

      Anonymous

Pretty dumb even for Saw standards. A lot of specific 4d chess involved and a lot had to happen in a specific way. That said, I still think Jigsaw had the worse twisg.

      Anonymous

Pretty awful. It's one of those twists where everyone has to do the exact right thing at the exact right time for Jigsaw's plan to work. In this movie it's especially jarring because the movie is so simple up until that point, then when they got to the third act instead of writing a logical conclusion they said let's just write nonsense and over complicate these once simple plot threads for no reason.

      It was really good IMO
Jiggy play off the main antagonist ego and set up a scheme in which the main antogonist and her boyfried would think they have the upperhand and put Jiggy and Amanda in their own trap
That however backfired them since Jiggy was counting on that and made said trap escapable
Meanwhile he hided their scam money on bag in the control room but the bag was tied to a mechanism that seal off said room and filled it with toxic gas, forcing the lovers to fight each other since only one could put their head on a hole and breath fresh air

        Anonymous

        >It was really good IMO
How does your brain process the rest of what you typed as good and not completely moronic that Jigsaw foresaw all that?

          Anonymous

Because Jiggy baited them at least 3 times with "your money is in the control room lmao" and the Phone thing was deliberated since he and amanda knew about Parker from the start and baited the prostitute into calling Parker to make him come over
They also had the pistol bullets powderless so the only way it could go wrong was if The prostitute and Parker choosed to kill Jiggy and amanda with that metal blade or with their fist, since it was a given they would fall for the money trap either way.

            Anonymous

            >Because Jiggy baited them at least 3 times with "your money is in the control room lmao"
Yes but they both had to be in that room at the same time when the money bag was moved. They could've stood around until the trap finished, only one of them could've grabbed the money while the other watched, everything hinged on them going into the room at the same time to get the money. It's complete nonsense.
            >They also had the pistol bullets powderless so the only way it could go wrong was if....
Oh shit, he disarmed my gun? Guess I'll just beat this scrawny girl and cancer patient to death instead. Parker would've destroyed them in hand to hand combat. Also extremely fortunate Parker didn't do something people always do in movies...you know, fire a warning shot?
            >since it was a given they would fall for the money trap either way.
Again, it all hinged on them being in the room at the same time.
            >the only way it could go wrong
There were endless ways this could've gone wrong. Everything also hinged on Cecilia and Parker deciding to put John in the trap at all instead of just killing him.

I mean you're dealing with Saw, moronic prescience is what it's about.
I was thinking when he said "not exactly how I thought it'd go" (or whatever), he imagined that they were going to put himself and amanda in the trap, and didn't anticipate the boy being in there.

                >he imagined that they were going to put himself and amanda in the trap, and didn't anticipate the boy being in there.
Yeah, and when they came up with that plot point I bet they were all giddy thinking look guys, something new, something Jigsaw DIDN'T plan on happening...except the entire thing is still built upon Jigsaw expecting a bunch of 1% chance variables happening one after another. Stuffing a tiny golden nugget into a pile of shit doesn't change the pile of shit into a golden nugget.

As for the money it made sense they both where looking for it since it would be faster and they thought to have dabbed on jiggy by that point

aside from having the plan based around them getting the hold on the phone and calling him specifically, it would be tons more interesting if he indeed would be a bystander that got put into it randomly

      >it would be tons more interesting if he indeed would be a bystander that got put into it randomly
Either this or Jigsaw simply didn't plan on getting put in the trap at all. Their constant need to end these movies with "see Jigsaw planned EVERYTHING out" actively makes these movies moronic and less interesting.

In terms of twist (and coincidentally the movie's quality as a whole is the closest you'll get to the first movie) is Saw II. I think the next best twist is found in Saw VI, but it seemed like they intentionally tried to keep that twist very low key. Saw VI has a low ambition twist executed competently while movies like Saw IV have high ambition twists executed horribly so the movie is just a complete mess.

      >During the early planning stage for [Saw VI] it was suggested that Costas Mandylor's character, Detective Hoffman, should take on the mafia due to his vigilante modus operandi, but the idea was quickly dismissed as not "feeling Saw enough" and more like "The Punisher".
this is basically what they've ended up doing. just turning whatever jigsaw into a sympathetic anti-hero.

Jigsaw isn't supposed to be a sympathetic hero, that's the movies conceit, which the movie and people behind it hype up. But it's not meant seriously, it's tongue in cheek and meant to sell the conceit.

      >Be laying down in my private domicile

      >Jigsaw straps my body into a reverse bear trap
      >Jigsaw sets a timer for 60 seconds on the trap
      >Jigsaw wakes me up and tells me about the key he threw inside my brain
      >"better get digging bro lol"
      >I lay there in the trap breathing
      >60 seconds go by and the lethal weapon Jigsaw set up, placed me inside of activated, springs and blows my head into meaty chunks
      THE CHARGES ON JOHN KRAMER
      >Conspiracy to commit kidnapping
      >Trespassing (of the warehouse, not my house, that charge is for Amanda)
      >Assault
      >Battery
      >Practicing Medicine Without A License
      >Medical Malpractice
      >Distribution of illegal substances or chemicals
      >Boobie Trapping (see Section 2C:35-4.1 of New Jersey criminal code, or equivalent state statutes depending on where you argue Saw takes place)
      >First Degree Murder
      And finally? Yes.
      It's RICO.
      >Racketeering
The partnership of John and Amanda constitutes "Jigsaw", a criminal enterprise of at least two people. Just two predicate crimes need be proven, among them may be the kidnapping, distribution, and murder.

Still RICO. It doesn't matter how many subordinates the enterprise Jigsaw distributes responsibility to. John Kramer still goes to prison for the rest of his life on RICO.

I liked it up until the ending, which was fricking stupid.
I feel like the main villain con artist chick got off too lightly, everyone else had to break/cut off a piece of themselves, she was the worst of all of them and just got "lol stick your head in this hole to live." Also, the main twist/ Jigsaw's 4d chess moment was far from foolproof and could have easily backfired on him if both villains weren't in the same room or waited for John to die in his own trap.

        >What was specifically dangerous about the room they were in?
Jigsaw and Amanda were supposed to be the two forced into the waterboarding trap, the lady and her boyfriend choose the kid instead. But if they had simply waited for Jigsaw to die in his own trap before collecting the money in the upstairs room (which triggers a wire and turns the room into a gas chamber), or if one was upstairs and the other downstairs, the whole foiling could have been ruined.

I feel kinda crazy. All it took for every reviewer with a thumb up their ass to recommend a Saw movie was... give Jigsaw a sappy sob story about his cancer before he starts brutally torturing people.
Seriously? The difference between panned filth Saw movies and a Halloween hit is a semblance of cause and effect?
I mean that's a load of bullshit don't you all think? The reason audiences have always gone to see Saw is the torture porn.
This is not an 80% fresh movie. It's just positive whiplash going from the absolute series lows that came before. It's really like a 60%.

            Anonymous

The police found it, they just didn’t know Hoffman wrote it. You see it in evidence as a photocopy in a movie after 3. Probably multiple times

The original letter which Hoffman removed, that Jigsaw wrote to Amanda is this

            >My dear Amanda - The enclosed is for you… to ease the waves in the sea you must navigate. Talk with Anthony McDonald at the Branch. He will take care of all. Do not look back, only ahead. You have arrived at the door – walk through. Don’t look back. You are strong and well. I know you think you have nothing to teach. We teach what we need to learn… that is enough. May I always breathe life into your soul… as you have done to mine. With love and hope I believe in you - John

Sounds like he planned to give her all his assets and money but not sure how that was meant to work when everyone knew John was a serial killer by then. Wouldn’t his assets be frozen?

Also cool that this was legit written by Tobin Bell. His own words. He just followed the general instructions. Bell definitely had a big influence on why Jigsaw is so memorable

              Anonymous

Pretty sure John has more seedy connections than the CIA. He probably knows a guy who can transfer some hidden assets and he has another guy to kill that guy if he doesn't do his job.

Makes me wonder if whatever happened before 3, Hoffman knew that John wasn’t going to let him be the one to lead the games - thus starting his plan to kill them both off. There’s definitely missing context here as to what triggered Hoffman to fully commit to wiping Amanda and John.

                Anonymous

Hoffman was living under threat of blackmail to initially get him to work for Jigsaw. and while he trusted John to not spill the beans and frick him over. John was clearly on his deathbed by 3 no matter what happened. Once John died Amanda would take over. And Amanda clearly hated him and was a lot less stable. So he set her up to feel and die so he could remain free

It’s funny Hoffman initially started off having to get forced to make traps and kidnap people for jigsaw but by the time Jiggy dies Hoffman is straight up continuing to do them for no reason other than he’s now an addict for this shit.

If Hoffman just STOPPED making more games after 3/4. He would have gotten away with it.

Meh, it was good but overhyped. Also not as much gore than the previous movies which was lame.

Why is Jigsaw still alive in these movies all the way into the tenth? Didn't he have terminal cancer?

      Anonymous

he died before the cancer killed him, dummy

      Anonymous

Calling the cancer terminal leaves out the most imortant part of the equation: the will to survive. Live or die. He chose to live.

Cancer is an incredibly weird thing in general. Death estimates are never consistent.

I thought it was hilarious how much the movie kept reminding the audience what had just happened to combat Tik Tok brain. Still, was better than I expected and seeing all the zoomies who snuck in squirm was hilarious.

Some homosexual was on his phone watching tik tok in the front row of my theater for the first half of the movie. Someone also brought a crying baby. I cant tell if I just notice these things more the older I get or if people really are becoming inconsiderate buttholes.

People are bigger buttholes where I am, no doubt about it. I was gifted Regal Unlimited and have been going to the movies a lot this year, and people just don't care about other people anymore.

never seen or bothered with any of the movies after saw III, should I? from what I can tell they are trash. but seriously how are there so many of these stupid movies if the villain dies at the end of the third?

      Anonymous

Watch them. They wrote new characters into the story retroactively and filmed flashbacks to show what they were doing in Saw 1-3. It's stupid but also amazing the amount of detail they put into recreating sets, costumes, and make-up. Jigsaw's successor is occasionally bland, occassionally awesome. Saw 6 is legitimately great. Saw is at its best when it indulges in pure soap opera moronation with the gore porn as a sweetener.

    >getting a fuking kid on a trap

valentina body to try and save herself

      [...]

gabriela after she won the game
It's basically to show you that she doesn't give a frick about anybody about herself. She doesn't hesitate to disrespect a body if it gets her to save herself. Killing Gabriela was just literally being spiteful, she probaby could tell that Amanda and John subconsciously wanted her to live because she inherently did nothing wrong so she killed her out of spite.

Amanda was really cute with everyone in this movie

Well, we now have the answer why John didn't get treatment he was telling Easton about in Saw VI.
    1) Doctor Finn Pedersopn, who invented the treatment is forced into hiding
    2) He is the real deal, even if Cecilia isn't
    3) Cecilia is his daughter
All these bits of trivia come from Cecilia herself, who might not be telling the truth, but at least the fight one should be real, meaning John would have trouble locating the real doctor. Added to that, his identity as Jigsaw becomes known sometime between the operation and the doctors' trial, so in addition, he would have difficulties moving internationally.

I really liked it but the final act genuinely started to piss me off because I was half-expecting them to frick over the smug b***h at some point (they do, eventually) but she was actually getting away with it. The "we knew all along" part ended up feeling a bit rushed as a result and Cecilia deserved a much worse trap than just poison gas

      her punishment was psychological.
she was a witness like the guy in part 3,

she was supposed to feel bad for them.

    >Right before "Saw X," I'd just come out of watching "The Creator," where the theater staff had mistakenly played the wrong movie at the start; ended up watching the opening scene of "Barbie" before they finally corrected the mistake. People were pretty mad. And then during the previews and cinema ads for "Saw X," I spotted a rat in the theater, which unnerved me to say the least. So, I wasn't in the best frame of mind to begin with. Startled me and left me feeling a bit annoyed. Throughout "Saw X," especially during the slower scenes, I couldn't help but glance around and even lift my feet off the ground, wondering if the rat was still lurking nearby.

    >Spiral
somehow watched the whole thing but holy frick it was just downright terrible

Is there literally any point in checking out more of this franchise?

you could watch Saw X as it fits in with what you've seen.
but otherwise they're Saw 4 level, and you don't sound like you're a gore/sfx hound to make up the difference
