Did anyone else think it was just alright? I love the Saw franchise but I'm not sure why this one is getting so much praise. It's kind of slow and boring in parts and the stakes feel absolutely non existent. It was cool to bring back you know who for a cameo.

Pretty dumb even for Saw standards. A lot of specific 4d chess involved and a lot had to happen in a specific way. That said, I still think Jigsaw had the worse twisg.
Pretty awful. It's one of those twists where everyone has to do the exact right thing at the exact right time for Jigsaw's plan to work. In this movie it's especially jarring because the movie is so simple up until that point, then when they got to the third act instead of writing a logical conclusion they said let's just write nonsense and over complicate these once simple plot threads for no reason.

That however backfired them since Jiggy was counting on that and made said trap escapable
Meanwhile he hided their scam money on bag in the control room but the bag was tied to a mechanism that seal off said room and filled it with toxic gas, forcing the lovers to fight each other since only one could put their head on a hole and breath fresh air

Either this or Jigsaw simply didn't plan on getting put in the trap at all. Their constant need to end these movies with "see Jigsaw planned EVERYTHING out" actively makes these movies moronic and less interesting.
I genuinely don't get the criticism of the first 3rd of this movie. Yeah, it's slow but it helps build up the tragedy of Kramer in this, it almost makes you feel bad for the guy getting screwed over.

At this point you basically have to completely disassociate from the original movies to buy into nuJigsaw. There's a clear shift in priorities between the original Leigh Whannell Jigsaw and post-Whannell Jigsaw.

In terms of twist (and coincidentally the movie's quality as a whole is the closest you'll get to the first movie) is Saw II. I think the next best twist is found in Saw VI, but it seemed like they intentionally tried to keep that twist very low key. Saw VI has a low ambition twist executed competently while movies like Saw IV have high ambition twists executed horribly so the movie is just a complete mess.
Honestly, just watch them all in order. If you liked the twist you will at least enjoy all of them, and a few are almost better than one. Two is my favorite, then four, then 1

Also, the main twist/ Jigsaw's 4d chess moment was far from foolproof and could have easily backfired on him if both villains weren't in the same room or waited for John to die in his own trap.

Jigsaw and Amanda were supposed to be the two forced into the waterboarding trap, the lady and her boyfriend choose the kid instead. But if they had simply waited for Jigsaw to die in his own trap before collecting the money in the upstairs room (which triggers a wire and turns the room into a gas chamber), or if one was upstairs and the other downstairs, the whole foiling could have been ruined.
I feel kinda crazy. All it took for every reviewer with a thumb up their ass to recommend a Saw movie was... give Jigsaw a sappy sob story about his cancer before he starts brutally torturing people.

Makes me wonder if whatever happened before 3, Hoffman knew that John wasn’t going to let him be the one to lead the games - thus starting his plan to kill them both off. There’s definitely missing context here as to what triggered Hoffman to fully commit to wiping Amanda and John.
Hoffman was living under threat of blackmail to initially get him to work for Jigsaw. and while he trusted John to not spill the beans and frick him over. John was clearly on his deathbed by 3 no matter what happened. Once John died Amanda would take over. And Amanda clearly hated him and was a lot less stable. So he set her up to feel and die so he could remain free
It’s funny Hoffman initially started off having to get forced to make traps and kidnap people for jigsaw but by the time Jiggy dies Hoffman is straight up continuing to do them for no reason other than he’s now an addict for this shit.

Watch them. They wrote new characters into the story retroactively and filmed flashbacks to show what they were doing in Saw 1-3. It's stupid but also amazing the amount of detail they put into recreating sets, costumes, and make-up. Jigsaw's successor is occasionally bland, occassionally awesome. Saw 6 is legitimately great. Saw is at its best when it indulges in pure soap opera moronation with the gore porn as a sweetener.

Killing Gabriela was just literally being spiteful, she probaby could tell that Amanda and John subconsciously wanted her to live because she inherently did nothing wrong so she killed her out of spite.

1) Doctor Finn Pedersopn, who invented the treatment is forced into hiding
2) He is the real deal, even if Cecilia isn't
3) Cecilia is his daughter
All these bits of trivia come from Cecilia herself, who might not be telling the truth, but at least the fight one should be real, meaning John would have trouble locating the real doctor. Added to that, his identity as Jigsaw becomes known sometime between the operation and the doctors' trial, so in addition, he would have difficulties moving internationally.

I really liked it but the final act genuinely started to piss me off because I was half-expecting them to frick over the smug b***h at some point (they do, eventually) but she was actually getting away with it. The "we knew all along" part ended up feeling a bit rushed as a result and Cecilia deserved a much worse trap than just poison gas
