my real preference would be when gohan shows up to fight buu, and buu absorbs gotenks and piccolo, that gohan overcomes and beats him. that would be the poetic ending.
everything after that, goku coming back AGAIN, vegeta coming back for no discernible reason beside 'heh i know he's dead but he's really strong"
gohan is the real protagonist of dragonball Z, the whole story was set up as goku passing the legacy on to his son
The idea that Toriyama was "forced" to continue Dragon Ball is a complete myth. He made as much Dragon Ball as he wanted.

You don't have any source for that. It's endlessly parrotted headcanon created by fans that has been spouted for 20 years. Toriyama has never said anything of the sort. Toriyama is a hermit that doesn't do interviews, fan meet and greets, social media, or anything at all.
That he intended for Gohan to be the protagonist but ultimately decided he "wasn't suited for the part" is real and not fan headcanon tho
