Glad that we get this as well as Pantheon s2. It's rare to see serious plot-driven cartoons that aren't soulless netflix shit. This looks cool as frick and I am waiting for this since the first announcement.
Please tell me that onMax service isn't completely niche. I don't want this to be cancelled in case that it should need multiple seasons.

They're doing it because WB is in freefall thanks to being passed around like an Epstein girl through a bunch of poorly times mergers.

HBO Max was pretty good but then the Discovery merger happened and they went full moron and changed the name to Max. No idea how they'll treat this show, my guess is not well. They could decide to delete it from existence like Infinity Train.

        >They could decide to delete it from existence like Infinity Train.
Damn don't remind me. I will forever be mad for not getting the answers and the inevitable season about Amelia. I know that they didn't intend it end that way but the last season being some lukewarm in-between story that felt like an extra made it worse. As McCracken once said after WoY's cancellation "never bank on another season and implement the good ideas you have when you can and trust your creativity if they ask for another season". Well it's not the actual quote but something along the lines and it rings true.

Like most HBO Max cartoons it will be ignored. I'm still looking forward to it

Yeah I noticed that too. Even though it's sometimes genuinely interesting shit.
I often see anons whining about shitty comedies and toddler cartoons but whenever you get something that is neither the threads never reach more than 5-11 IPs.

Holy shit I loved that too. It was an IMO good series about adult issues that for once didn't try to be super quirky or too extreme.

has there been a single non comic hbo animation that was allowed to have a white male lead?

Does that show share some team members with Scavengers? I vaguely remember one anon claiming that but I cannot find any proof. I really enjoyed that series too despite being a whole different genre.

Let me guess, this series is about some depressed millennial?

More about snobby hipster society + semi-autistic individual being a receipt for failure (mainly for the latter, but sometimes also for the first and well-deserved).

It's more about the crushing dehumanization and passive aggressiveness of modern silicon valley corporate culture with the framing of a half grounded/half absurd mars colony.

as always it is focused on ugly women with zero cool or competent white male leads
white men get zero positive representation in modern animation
even in topics like space exploration or combat were they dominate

One of the main characters is literally a white old man.

the show is focused on an ugly black woman yet again, she gets to go on an adventure and fight
the white guy will be evil and depicted as weaker then her like always
you never see positive or strong/competent white male characters in animation lead alone cool or heroic white make action leads

          Anonymous

Red-haired grandpa doesn't look evil. He seems to be the type of wise insider that knows more about the problems they face than the others due to struggling with them for longer.

The white male lead issue never bothers homosexuals when it's about brown lesbo shit like Owl House. If the they can watch that then it's probably not the lack of white men that makes them ignore cartoons like this.
Besides that, Pantheon for example had a few central white male characters and the threads were dead regardless, so if anything Cinemaphile is partly to blame for why we are getting flooded with feMC-only shit.

This is shaping up to be the best animated series we've gotten in a long time, can't wait for Cinemaphile to completely ignore it because they can't coom to it or complain about it being woke

I am curious about the roles of the characters. It seems like the black dude is on his own and fighting to survive whereas the old guy and the woman are teaming up and their arc seems to be more exploration-heavy, whereas the black guy's story seem to be more despair and action-focused. Could be really cool. Primal and this remind me why I even watch fiction.

It looks like old guy is going through some sort of transformation/spiritual journey. You see him at various ages while none of the other characters seem to age so it looks like he's aging weirdly rather than flash backs/forwards. He's also in that hallucination-looking part with the blank white background and the blob of what looks like his face at various stages of life.

Yeah there were also more characters at first and most of them seem to die near the start, judging by the corpses all around the same time.

Think those are faces of crew members and maybe relatives. The black dude on the right seems to be the black MC, on the bottom right you have that woman with glasses that you only see once in the trailer, no idea about the toddler and the old dying guy. But could be family members or something. The whole scene is weird as shit so I have no way of guessing what it means to begin with unless everybody else is dead by that point and merged into some Quintesson-like alien entity.

Not that. You should read or watch the ones anons talked about though it's one of the maybe three non-shit anime that were airing the last three years and it's a great exploration fantasy with surprising dark parts if you are into that. And a fantastic soundtrack.

Show is dead on a vine. It has zero mass appeal sadly. First the people that don't like animation and think animated stuff is just for kids are out, next it doesn't appeal to anime watchers because of the character designs are kind of bad, and next if the story is slow to try and build atmosphere no one under the age of 25 will have the attention span to watch it.

      >First the people that don't like animation and think animated stuff is just for kids are out
This is one of the biggest issues. Even with anime and manga/comics. The type of people that would be into the good series are usually avoiding drawn stuff since they assume that all of it was shit for young kids, moe or some other mainstream type so they never see the series that they might enjoy more than even the live action they stick to. Simultaneously most of the cartoon and anime fans stick to the mainstream shit only that they are used to watch so at best it becomes a cult hit later thanks to worth of the mouth, but too late and slowly to be considered successful enough to make more of it.

Was that supposed to be a short haired black man or a black woman? I couldn't tell honestly.

Short-haired means 1cm to me but you probably talk about the shoulder-long hair of that brown woman.

Oh it's me being moronic then. That's the MC that goes solo and I was 100% convinced it was a guy because I mostly looked at the expressions and backgrounds. Now that you say it and I am rewatching it I am not that sure anymore. I have seen a lot of women from African countries with such hair that looked pretty masculine if they were skinny. That character doesn't talk either. You might be onto something.

I think that for once I might even be okay with a woman if she actually struggles with the fights and is in legit danger as it seems to be the case here. If they are one. Will be interesting getting more infos about that series. The trailer rather raises questions than telling us what it actually is about (besides being a space survival, so much is for sure). Though that's allegedly how a trailer should be.

It looks like a guy but they were so thin that it made me question if they are actually a woman.

              Anonymous

Yeah I also rather bank on a pretty young skinny man. I actually wonder what the purpose of the woman (the one that is a woman for sure) will be. The two others seem to have some own plots going on but she is more like a passive middle piece that meets both of them at different points of the series.

Probably to keep the old guy alive when he starts to go off the rails.
