Man, I love this show's setting. I love it's music. I love the horrifying deathworld ecosystem. But like a fleck of shit in a three-star meal, I can't help but notice certain characters seem to be intended to be more sympathetic than they actually are, and it's kind of fricking stupid to push the "be in harmony with nature, dude" aesop in a world so demonstrably hostile to human life.

Corpos don't see tv animation as art. To them, it's all just single-use content that is put out, makes money, then is forgotten and eventually replaced with new shit. As such, why would they need to spend $$$ hiring Americans when the chinks, asiatics, and japs will get the job done for pennies on the dollar? Doesn't matter if the show looks like shit; it's not supposed to be art, only something to make money once.
Multiple animation studios worked on this show. Also, animation quality may be better or worse depending on the needs of the scene, given limited budgets. The scene where Sam yells at Kamen during the escape pod evacuation is animated more fluidly than regular scenes because this scene is supposed to feel dramatic and important. Less important scenes, like an establishing shot of characters walking, are lower on the totem pole.
