Rough first impression and the dialogue isn't exactly great overall, but damn this pulls it off if you give it a chance. Shame HBO has put zero effort into promoting it, or even releasing it worldwide.

between this and pantheon, i'm convinced the television industry, or at least its marketing segment, is attempting to sabotage the very concept of animated drama.
They want sleeper hits, that way they don't have to spend more money than necessary if it isn't successful had they actually marketed it.
See, this is what I hate about you guys. You put all the blame on studio marketing when audiences are just as guilty. You also b***h and moan about every new ambitious cartoon "underperforming" long before any cancellation is even announced instead of just fricking talking about it, so 90% of all discussion for said cartoon online is needlessly depressing. That same defeatist attitude ruins morale and actually makes a show seem LESS inviting to outsiders and potential viewers when they see the fandom is predominantly so sad and pessimistic.
Max of course prioritizes their big IP in their TV ads (DC, Wizarding World, HGTV, etc.), but they definitely advertised Scavengers Reign online. You should be pointing fingers at the people who wouldn't shut up about The Last of Us early this year, but scoff at any adult cartoon that dares to be more than a generic sitcom. Hell, some people might actually be into shit like Scavengers or Pantheon but mentally block them without even realizing it. Shit just slips right past them. THAT'S JUST HOW IT IS SOMETIMES.
If you've got a platform--not just social media followers; having even one IRL friend or relative to casually recommend things to--it's your responsibility to use it wisely instead of going right back to complaining about a [proposed] Toy Story sequel or whatever "controversial" thing SpongeBob or Rick and Morty did in their latest episode. Hold up a fricking mirror for once and realize you're part of the problem. Just talk about cool things you like. Enough with your "woe is me" tirade. Use your platform for good, or just continue mourning things you've made up in your own head. Your call.
So promote the show then.
have a nice day. That just increases the budget which makes shit even more unlikely to succeed. What more marketing could they do?
Frankly they clearly abandoned Toonami and it’s anime premise so just kill it and replace it with MaxAnimation block and toss this on there for a few weeks. That would get more eyes on it than “marketing” which is basically worthless these days.
This is hands down one of the best animated productions for adults made in a long time which unfortunately means it probably won’t last long. It seems like the sort of show that a lot of people will sleep on and only discover after it’s already been cancelled.
Thankfully it works well as a standalone story and they only mildly seeded the premise for a second season in the very final scene.
That’s exactly the problem, it doesn’t. The last 15 minutes of the last episode is all “seeding for the future” shit and it’s completely moronic.
This would have been better as a 2 hour movie with no intention of a sequel unless it was a runaway hit.
Wtf are you talking about?
How is showing that the crew learned to live on the planet at the end “seeding for the future”?
He made a funny and you are too dumbto get it.
>hands down one of the best animated productions for adults made in a long time
Man is the bar really so low
neither of you are wrong
>Pictured is the actual cover
LMAO frick off, OP. You homosexual.
What a eccentric yet confident lad
lol Cinemaphile really fricking hates this show
Shocking.
I doubt people in general will like it. The drama portions are dreadfully bad and xenobiology is niche.
There are both colored and gay people in the show, ofcourse Cinemaphile hates it.
Pretty sure that's not why Spearlady is an unlikeable c**t. Or why Greyman is moronic or why Refguy fricked everything up forever or why Karen couldn't just lie about waking up the people instead of being antagonistic or why Tentacledman kept handing Boy the dangerous toy instead of holding onto it until they were safe.
Nope, it couldn't possibly all the shitty characters and bad plot. It's because of the gays! Fricking deflectionists always defending shit with "no, it's because of the blanks" rather than just facing the flaws in their media.
You just don't like it because it has minorities in it
Cinemaphile doesn't talk about the flaws because on Cinemaphile threads for this show are always just filled with people saying they aren't going to watch it for x reason and crying shill and then the thread dies at under 20 posts.
I already go to Cinemaphile you don't need to sell me on it.
C'mon Cinemaphile thread. Die at under 20 posts... please. I believe in you.
You have like 2 or 3 people who actually hate it for that reasonable take and over 50 (plus multiple autisms) who are only angry because black and/or gay.
Frick off. YOU are the cancer here. Rather than discuss the show you’re discussing people who you claim don’t discuss the show.
Either frick off or have a nice day
Cinemaphile is the biggest /misc/ proxy board on the site next to Cinemaphile. Like hell what they say is legitimate.
have a nice day, hand waving everything you disagree with as /misc/ just makes you sound like a fricking tourist.
He's not wrong though if the shoe fits. Cinemaphile has a massive amount of literal /misc/ baiting that the jannies ignore.
She is wrong though and you need to stop begging for more moderation. go back to twitter or Reddit if you want niceties and warm fuzzies homosexual.
>Rough first impression
tf the first six episodes were the best
It fell off of a fricking cliff by episode 9. I’d recommended this show to two people irl because they might have legit watched it but when it ended I flat out told them to never bother watching it.
The animation in that last batch was particularly bad.
I liked the xenobiology a lot. Thought the story was a little shitty, with most characters being morons or dicks. I hate the planet as a character, he's the biggest dick of them all. Just give people a break, man.
Watched the first episode and it's pretty good.
yeah ikr
I don't understand the title…
Get this, they are scavengers and they reign over nature at the end. Very deep, very complex.
1. They don’t reign at all they get their ass kicked until Levi becomes le technobiological godly entity
and
2. They’re subsistence farmers at the end, they almost never scavenge in the series. Scavengers are nomadic because in fully realized biospheres there are seasons that force organisms to migrate which forces hunter gatherers to follow.
The scavenger is the planet. It's why everything is a parasite.
Cute try but that makes even less sense. Even from a spiritual/non-biological angle
The planet scavenged the shit out of the robot.
It didn’t though. The exact opposite happened and a new entity was born. Stop imagining you’re intelligent enough to play semantic games.
In the case of this and pantheon it was clear the creators were making the threads and yet stuck that tone you speak of with “oh woe is me they don’t spend the equivalent of the production budget on marketing”.
With all due respect to them I liked the show until the last batch of episodes killed it for me but this doesn’t look interesting:
. It looks pretentious and boring. And the show kinda was that. I like Azi, she was in many ways the only character I can say I liked at all. The rest were just endlessly moronic.
I don’t think her late lesbian memories were unnecessary and took run time away from what could have been used progressing the plot. Just like I think a lot of the Kamen memory sequences were a waste of fricking time.
But the marketing should have focused on the planet and beautiful parts of the animation not the people who aren’t visually appealing.
Just like pantheon all of the marketing images show people who seem to just be mopey fricks.
*necessary
It's visually interesting, but it feels really dumb. They're on an unknown planet where every drop of alien fluid could, and often does, kill them, but they don't seem to know or care. It's just stupid.
I liked that we saw a lot of lifeforms that WEREN'T interesting in doing horrible things to the humans.
The first 3 episodes were good enough, but the next 9 were just uninteresting and mediocre overall.
Cartoons are for kids. Making a cartoon for adults is silly. Nobody is going to market or talk about something that is silly.
The closest we'll ever get to adult cartoons is things like Family Guy or Archer that are clearly made specifically for teenagers and mentally stunted stoners. Swearing and fart jokes, there's your 'adult cartoon'.
