It would be fun to see a version of them like this, where Billy is slowly turning into his dad and Mandy subtly succumbs to the adult desires of companionship. They get along with Grim better but this is balanced out by all the trouble young adults can get into.
B&M is one of those shows that could adapt to an "age up" very well. The dark humor and such was always it's main drawpoint.
The thing is that it's far too nihilistic and has next to no continuity. It was never a coming of age story with deep lore like Avatar or Adventure Time nor did it even have characters you're supposed to like (aside from maybe Grim). Episodes end with characters dying all the time. It simply doesn't take itself seriously enough to make a serious story out of it.

I think Mandy just wanted a more immediate and visceral revenge plus she probably thought possessing Billy would have been too disgusting of a thing to do(plus it's arguably a callback to Grim demonstrating how possession works at the start of the episode with Milkshakes*)
*Grim's goofy little song he sings when he possesses Milkshakes is something that will probably be embedded in my brain till the day I die

I have never heard a more accurate description for a show than "that hateful fart cartoon".
It wasn't always that way. The Grim and Evil episodes were more macabre and sometimes had genuine horror moments. It wasn't until like 2005 that it became a lame Spongebob ripoff with more toilet humor.
