      >trillions of planets to choose from

      it's not complicated

That's because they only make movies about visits to class M planets
      That's like saying

      >it is never higher than the water
      >if it's not higher than the water it's under the water

      >sci fi movie
      >they focus on possible conflicts arising from technology instead of spending months of training and millions of dollars in CGI to make it look like the planet has 1.2x earth gravity

my parents and teachers told me i was smart but im lazy so i didnt do well in school btw

Jesus FRICKING christ how unoriginal can you possibly be. I would unironically rather hear something stupid like "space bucks" at this point than hear god damned "credits" for the millionth time.

I'm just confused as to how credits in Star Trek work. It's a post scarcity society where food is made for free in replicators, right? What's the difference between credits and old-fashioned currency?

        Anonymous

Maybe it's only post scarcity on the scale of individuals or a crew of a few thousand, but when you get into planet-sized ecosystems and beyond, the energy requirements go up significantly. Credits might not just be for the sale of goods but access to the energy required for replicators.

It's mostly humans who abandoned currency a lot of the rest of the federation still has it and even a lot of human planets have it who are further from the core of the federation. Star fleet just never uses it cause they have all the best tech and morals and people

If carbon life is exceptionally rare, perhaps gravity being similar is a necessity else carbon based life could not develop membranes to sustain function.

Is it possible to emulate gravity in space through centrifugal force?

I'm asking because I've seen 'Moonraker'. It might have been in 'A Space Oddysey:2001' too, I forget.

As thusfar, I don't think any mentions of it have been made where this would be a plausible idea in reality.

The one that always gets me is robots
    >Humans invent super powerful AI
    >Give AI mechanical bodies
    >AI slowly learns through interactions with the world
    >Instead of becoming its own unique lifeform with fundamental differences in perception and experience characterized by its unique nature, it becomes human lite
    >Robot societies either aren't shown or if they are shown, they're just a big computer or again human society lite

Even the fact that robots talk to each other audibly is moronic. The absolute fricking terror of an AI revolution would be that two robots could exchange gigabytes of information, which means billions of words, in seconds, between each other.
Ex Machina is the only kind of okay film I can think of, because you can make a strong argument the robots were nothing like people and only exploited human behavior for their own gain.

it's difficult to build movie sets on Earth that have different gravity than ours, or to find actors that aren't human, or that speak languages other than ones we already know about
