Gundam did it for literal decades and Le Expanse is just a ripoff so it makes sense

  3. 11 months ago
    Anonymous

Expanse was actually great until the aliens showed up. It's the most realistic, best case scenario for our species if we can't discover FTL tech. We're stuck in this solar system forever.

      colony ships.

Will be fun living there for thousands of years.

we can't even make super reliable cars right now, colony ships require a level of reliability and engineering beyond us

ah yes i love it when the sci-fi show is just as miserable and hopeless as our real world

You already have dozens of silly star wars and star treks, dumbass. You can ignore one semi-realistic for others to enjoy.

      >needing a cheatsheet
Do people really not know basic facts about the solar system?

      Anonymous

no we're not idiot we just got to get a point where out civ is comfy with it taking years to reach other star systems, at relativistic speeds a 10ly trip will only feel like 6 months for you so it aint that bad.

        Anonymous

Now calculate how long it takes to accelerate to relativistic speeds

          Anonymous

It will take 10 years to reach 1 light year if we use nuke chamber where we constantly detonate.

Making 1 nuke is let alone tough already, but having a constant flow for 10 years we are probably 10-100 generations away from reaching FTL travel.

The "find alien tech" seems most believable, but we will probably never find anything which means we are stuck in solar system forever.

My last hope in believing aliens exist lies in Europa, not sure why the frick they still looking into Mars. Move the frick on

            Anonymous

I can in fact confirm that not only do we have access to FTL travel but we managed to reverse engineer some of it. Im a complete normie but I've seen some shit and I'll leave it at that. Anything beyond that is either pure schzio grifting or disinformation

          Anonymous

You don't actually have to reach relativistic speeds to travel to nearby stars.

            Anonymous

You do if you want to get there in "6 months". Using more realistic measurements it would take a generation to get there with no real hope of coming back and even then it's a 99.999999% chance the reachable systems are completely uninhabitable

              Anonymous

If I remember right, Alpha Centauri could be reached in just a cpl of years at a constant 1g acceleration. The hard factor is engineering a solution to the fuel problem such a journey would entail.

                Anonymous

You're half right I think, should be 6-7 years with 1g acceleration half of the way and deceleration the rest of the way. Relativistic effects would reduce that by a bit, maybe 15-20% for the people on board

I don't know if the show ever got to the point where they explain the protomolocule, but it's not actually alien. It's human technology sent back into the past to try and accelerate human development enough to escape entropy, basically. There really are no aliens in the story at all.

What are some other good sci-fi shows?
Killjoys and Dark Matter don't come even remotely close. Passengers was okay. Firefly was a bit too "fun".

      Babylon 5
      Battlestar Galactica

Tom Jane's detective story ends in book 1. They already lengthened his plot by weaving the end of book 1 and the start of 2 together. Beyond that it'd be to ignore the books which would've most likely turned out terrible

This show reminds me of Black Sails where I like what the show is about and it could be cool but instead it's just a lot of boring ass characters talking about boring drama shit I do not give a frick about
I don't care about your minority lesbian drama, please tell an interesting story

    but no
have to wait for the finale for something interesting to happen to hook you in for next season of propagandaslop

there are though, you haven't watched the later seasons. Don't though, among the reasons: a character gets killed with the most stupid reason because the actor was accused of sexual harassment, and the series spends half of its runtime in season 5 about a black woman (one of the protagonists) with her mutt latino child
