Scorsese's new Jesus movie

>Scorsese is filming an adaptation of A Life of Jesus by writer Shūsaku Endō (a Japanese Catholic whose 1966 novel Silence was previously adapted by Scorsese).
>film reportedly set largely in the present day that “focus[es] on Jesus’s core teachings in a way that explores the principles but doesn’t proselytise”.
>“I’m trying to find a new way to make it more accessible and take away the negative onus of what has been associated with organised religion.”

It's natural for people to criticize/examine the religion most common in their country. Americans have definitely cracked jokes about Hindus and their cows, but it's hard to get too worked up about that in the U.S.A.

I think when your sect creates a new "central character" (Jesus/Mohammad/Smith) it moves from sect to separate religion. I doubt many Muslims would describe Islam as a Christian denomination.
Hubbard cleverly bullshitted that the Abrahamic faiths are a perversion of the ancient Xenu tale, turning Scientology into a prequel. Fitting for a sci-fi writer.

                >Every israelite believes the Messiah will return
                >Christians are israelites who believe Jesus is Messiah

Anyone who believes Jesus is the Messiah is Christian. Orthodox israelites and Muslims think Jesus was just a messenger. Any added characters won't change the core religion.

                Anonymous

Christians also believe that the Old Testament is the truth. Does that make them a israeli denomination? No, because the addition of the "central character" of Jesus makes it a new religion.

I literally said that. Everyone believes in the first part. The first part gives prophecy of the chosen one. Jesus isn't a new character because they explained him coming and what he will say.

Let’s just think about it. You may reject it. But it might make a difference in how you live your life – even in rejecting it. Don’t dismiss it offhand. That’s all I’m talking about.”

It's really sad that people use people and organizations to criticize the christian religion or god. You can tell they are hurt, damaged people, and are looking for someone to blame for it. They look for easy targets while ignoring all the love and healing that comes from the thing they are criticizing. Yes, things get corrupted by people. It doesn't negate the reason it exists. Everything is corrupted, it's part of our original sin. If you think you can make a perfect world, or a perfect religion, you will fail by being corrupted by something... because your mission is not to make the world perfect like heaven, your mission is to humble yourself and understand you need to prepare yourself for the ACTUAL heaven, and the only way is through suffering, and only god's love can get you through it. Once you leave the light and warmth because someone did something bad in the name of god, evil has won and bought your soul, cheap!

38You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." 39But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.
