In my experience, drum line drummers don't always translate to kit well. I had lot of inner city black kids come through Guitar Center when I worked there and they had hands, but they could never really get the feel of the kit. When they do succeed in rock, like Barker or Chad Sexton, you end up with a really weird quasi-drumline style.

yeah im a much better kit player than just snare, i cant do basic stuff extremely well like a friend of mine does but I add in wonky/triplet timing and ambidextrous stick work to make my rock drumming more jazzy almost beefheart esque sometimes
