Why would a 6 volume graphic novel need more than 8 episodes? Hell the movie adapted a lot and it was only like 2hrs and most of the stuff cut was around Envy and the twins
maybe I’m wrong but isn’t it a half-hour show? Probably means around 22-24 mins / ep, so at 8 eps that’d be about 3 hours total runtime.
Not terrible but given the biggest criticism of the movie is how much it cut, and IIRC they said this adaptation would show it all AND expand on the comic, that seems like a lot for just 8 eps

Apparently it was a very fun movie to make and the cast has remained in contact ever since so i would guess they're the ones who got it greenlit in the first place
Cera seemed like he was putting effort into the voice. MEW sounds dead inside
Because the whole “V.A.ing is different than acting” thing is voice actor cope and when real actors dub lines it sounds normal and not like cringe anime.
They don't sound normal here though, they sound awkward and stilted. The fact that the dialogue/humour is for some reason even slower paced than the movies were just makes it even worse.
Plus half the voices don't even fit the look of the actual comic designs, especially so for Michael Cera.
I like the animation but I'd rather keep the movie. I don't think they're going to do anything interesting with the material, FLCL that is, it's not going to be a director with a vision like Wright, Yuasa or even Imaishi who would do justice to the material.

Given how incredible the first season of SPACED was I would have loved to see Wright do it as a six part live action TV series.
The first 5 books are masterpiece's but 6 was fricking terrible. The problem was that the movie was in development before the 6th manga was done, so O'Malley was artistically compromised and distracted as he now had to whip up a conclusion that Wright could adapt that ultimately ended up unsatisfying.

I hated that the movie left out the part about Ramona disappearing, so that finally when Scott and Gideon fight, it turns out that they both think she’s been hanging out with the other one this entire time. And then it turns out she just went back home to stay at her dad’s house to a while. Also I liked that the comics really showed what an butthole Scott was, I think Michael Cera looks too unassuming.
