No. Season 4 was the beginning of the end. Dexter works best when there's some mystery involving the main antagonist for the season. Brian's identity was hidden from dexter. Lila was around, but he never considered her a target until much later. Miguel Prado was similar to Lila. Trinity sucked because it was just so un-Dexter. Him murdering Rita was only meant to get the writers out of the hole they wrote themselves into.
people only jerk off over it because of John Lithgow
I loved watching it week to week when it came out but upon rewatched all of its flaws overshadow all the good things
Yeah its just messy, Dexter having like 50 chances to kill Trinity and not taking any of them, he even fricking saves him from jumping to his death. I still dont understand the scene at the thanksgiving dinner. They all beg him to take care of Arthur and then after he's just assaulted his daughter and tried to strangle his son to death they defend him from Dexter. Like whats the message suppose to be?
>They all beg him to take care of Arthur and then after he's just assaulted his daughter and tried to strangle his son to death they defend him from Dexter
That's called Stockholm syndrome and it mostly affects women. Trinity's son was the only one in the family who wanted Trinity dead.
you can stop watching when Doakes dies that's when the show goes to shit.
OR
when Rita dies Full Circle ending
OR
just the first season, which holds by itself really good.
>dude just stop watching with a huge cliffhanger
I prefer season 5 ending but wishes, of course, are for children
Season 7 could've been a perfect series finale and I usually stop watching there on my rewatches
At least the books killed Rita in a less pointless way, it was a consequence of Dexter ignoring his family and it had lasting consequences. The show, it basically does nothing but remove the unimportant children
Agreed. It is also quite noticeable that the later seasons weren't filmed in Miami. The location and cinematography gave the show a dreamlike feel. Plus the killings were more dramatic and Dex really took his time with his victims.
Because of the shitty writing the show became really, really stupid in the later stages, especially from season 6 on. The first half of season 7 felt like the writers turned a corner, but the second half sadly reversed the good stuff and from that point on the show never recovered. I gave up after episode 5 or 6 in the last season and fast fowarded the last episode because everyone was losing their shit and it aroused my curiosity.
Dexter: New Blood could have been a good send off. >Dexter shows the audience that he is starting to break free from his rigidity when he doesn't collect his trophy >Dexter is finally at the end of the rope >he kills the cop to break out of jail >all of sudden flashback to Brian Moser >bornfree.mp3 >Dexter realizes that he truly is the same as his brother >escapes the town >flash forward >Dexter is killing indiscriminately as he's on the run >a federal investigation follows him through the country >as this is happening Harrison is allowed to finish out high school while under the care of the sheriff >end season 1 >season 2 begins >manhunt is still on, Dexter is on the news regularly. Dorky smiling face mocking Harrison for months now. >Harrison graduates high school and leaves the town to chase after his father >the audience follows Harrison as he travels around the country >intermittently we get scenes of Dexter as he's continuing his spree >this is followed by a news report detailing his latest crime >Harrison is tortured by this and begins to lean into vigilantism >Harrison continues his chase but now starts to kill criminals >it starts messy, but over time he unintentionally begins to mirror his father's old modus operandi >approaching the end of season 2 >Harrison has come to understand his father >using this understanding he is finally able to get within reach of Dexter >Dexter never sees his son coming >he is incapacitated from behind >next shot is Dexter waking up on his son's table >he recognizes it and has a final heart to heart with his son >Dexter has taken on the role of Brian of S1 and is trying to convince Harrison to his life of freedom >Harrison rejects it >Dexter realizes that Harrison has effectively adopted Harry's code without the instruction >it's in his blood >Dexter sees that Harrison has taken the code to its extreme and that his son has embraced the role of a vigilante >he accepts his fate >Harrison kills his father and season 2 ends
Everything about it felt unnecessary, barely anyone from the main series is in it, and it completely lacks the devious charm of the main series. Not really worth watching.
Season 4 is the best season, but I agree Trinity wasn't used very well.
The whole show is a lesson in cool ideas executed in subpar ways. The TV show at least improved on the Books, it was smart to loosely adapt the first book and then go from there, the books are awful schlock and the only thing I genuinely like about the books was when the author introduced fricking magic and mind control in the third book and then pretended he didn't have fricking demons and wizards afterwards even though he totally did.
Imagine a Dexter were they dont kill Doakes, Rita, Lundy and they just have them in the show til the end. Doakes always up Dexters ass giving him shit and almost finding out his secret, Rita and the kids giving us those wholesome family moments and Lundy popping back up for a few episodes a season to catch the new seasonal killer but also getting closer and closer to Dexter. Huge mistake killing them off.
im mid rewatch right now, 1 was cornier than i remember, 2 was ok but doakes sucks as an antagonist, 3 miguel prado was weird, 4 kino, 5 forgettable, 6 obvious twist, 7 i just started
Just finished season 5, first time watcher. Honestly i cant lie i kind of just want to go back to S1 and watch the show over again, i can already feel the cracks forming in S5 and i just wanna go back to Dexter kino.......
Yeah you're right, i just cant stop thinking about S1 and S2, they just captured me in a way a show hasn't for a long time. Cant wait to watch them again
Yeah its one of those things though when you make a TV show you dont know when its going to end, the studio could have killed the show after Season 2 and they'd look like geniuses. If you have an idea you just gotta do it i guess.
I mean they were following the books, I'm going to probably save up and buy them all because apparently there are some differences (eg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Doakes) and I'd be interested to see what else they changed from the original material (at least I think its original) https://www.bookseriesinorder.com/dexter/

Thank you for the spoiler tags, I wont be checking them as I haven't read the books yet.
Might bail on this thread actually before some butthole starts quoting the wikis
True. Season 4 is still second best, but it's a big drop off. Lithgow does great but everything else is meh.
No. Season 4 was the beginning of the end. Dexter works best when there's some mystery involving the main antagonist for the season. Brian's identity was hidden from dexter. >Dexter finds out who Trinity is in like episode 3
>Spends the next 8 episodes jacking off and not killing him
On rewatch S4 is just a fricking mess, killing Rita and Lundy in the same season? Peak cringe
people only jerk off over it because of John Lithgow
I loved watching it week to week when it came out but upon rewatched all of its flaws overshadow all the good things

I guess so, still moronic
Wrong
It's 2>1>4>7>3>5>6>8
Incorrect
1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > 7 > 5 > 6 > New Blood > 8
New Blood's shitty ending and Harrison "side plot" for bad but Clancy Brown made up for it
1 > 2 > 4 > 5 > 7 > New Blood > 3 > 6 > 8
3 is kino pleb
I would put season 5 above 7 and 3
Rita was so sexy
indeed
She was hot as frick as Darla in Buffy and Angel.
She, a major character, died twice in Buffyverse and once in Dexter.
4 > 1 > 3 > 2
>Hannah McKay
>hot psycho b***h that poisons people for fun
One of the only good things about the final season. New Blood doesn't count.
I couldn't get over how beautiful she was. I don't remember anything about the season other than her
> 4 > 2 > 1 > 3
wholesomeness:
2 > 4 > 3 > 1
She's a rape victim. I don't think she'd appreciate getting sexualised like that
Shut up homosexual
The why did she dress up as tomb raider and suck Dexter's wiener?
1 > 2 > 4 > 3 > shit

yeah, that too, im not your dad, do as you want.
>dude just stop watching with a huge cliffhanger
I prefer season 5 ending but wishes, of course, are for children
Season 7 could've been a perfect series finale and I usually stop watching there on my rewatches
>Spend 4 seasons building up Dexters relationship with Rita and the kids
>Just kill her and ship them off for the rest of the series
maybe the actress wanted to go and they didn't want to replace her
At least the books killed Rita in a less pointless way, it was a consequence of Dexter ignoring his family and it had lasting consequences. The show, it basically does nothing but remove the unimportant children
Boy Friend/Dad Dexter is unironically one of my favourite things about the first 4 seasons and the show just suffers without it
1>4>2
But for sequence, the last three episodes of season two when Doakes finally tried to get Dexter was tops
The getaway is still the best episode of the series. Even if that's the pleb reddit answer it is correct.
Nah
What is then?

>Dexter is finally at the end of the rope

>this is followed by a news report detailing his latest crime
>Harrison is tortured by this and begins to lean into vigilantism
>Harrison continues his chase but now starts to kill criminals
>it starts messy, but over time he unintentionally begins to mirror his father's old modus operandi
>approaching the end of season 2
>Harrison has come to understand his father
>using this understanding he is finally able to get within reach of Dexter
>Dexter never sees his son coming
>he is incapacitated from behind
>next shot is Dexter waking up on his son's table
>he recognizes it and has a final heart to heart with his son
>Dexter has taken on the role of Brian of S1 and is trying to convince Harrison to his life of freedom
>Harrison rejects it
>Dexter realizes that Harrison has effectively adopted Harry's code without the instruction
>it's in his blood
>Dexter sees that Harrison has taken the code to its extreme and that his son has embraced the role of a vigilante
>he accepts his fate
>Harrison kills his father and season 2 ends
Nah
I miss this little homie like you wouldn't believe.
Imagine writting a character like him today
Why the frick is he not in new blood? Bautista's entire role in that show absolutely should have been Masuka.
MASUKA
>Trinity is overrated
He is, great performance dont get me wrong but as a Dexter baddy he's not great
one of the best dexter villains imo
I like season 2 outside of Lila
I relate to Dexter, i hate people they're cringe
Dexter's code was to only kill cringe people
I feel that way too lately.
>The first time people really hated the ending... SO we asked ourselves.. What if we did it again?
I've heard mixed things about the revival, is the revival overall good until the last episode or was the whole thing ass?
Everything about it felt unnecessary, barely anyone from the main series is in it, and it completely lacks the devious charm of the main series. Not really worth watching.
I thought one of the best things about the original series was how colourful it was. New one just has that blue winter tint.
>Watch S1 after a few years
>Get rocked to my core by how fricking kino it is
We will NEVER see a show like this again
I have watched it in its entirety 6 times
this scene still to this day is fricking S teir
>open your eyes or I'll cut your eyelids off your face
The entire season is just GOD tier
I have to dig out my old HDDs... 2024 might be the year for another rewatch
Do it anon, you wont be disappointed
Season 4 is the best season, but I agree Trinity wasn't used very well.

The music in the show is fricking GOD tier though, this shit still gets me
I’ve been rewatching, s6 is genuinely awful. Season 3 sucks too, season 2 is probably the last great season, Doakes was best protagonist
>Season 3 sucks too
I dont get this meme, i really like Season 3 personally, Miguel Prado is based
homie doakes was da antagonist
thats only because doakes carried the show
Imagine a Dexter were they dont kill Doakes, Rita, Lundy and they just have them in the show til the end. overall its not as good as i remember
Pleb
1 and 3 are good
rest is shit
>Watch seasons 1-3
>Realise they dont make kinos like this anymore
What the frick went wrong?
Just finished season 5, first time watcher. Honestly i cant lie i kind of just want to go back to S1 and watch the show over again, i can already feel the cracks forming in S5 and i just wanna go back to Dexter kino.......
push through and complete it. I am
and it makes it all the sweeter coming back to it every year or so
Yeah you're right, i just cant stop thinking about S1 and S2, they just captured me in a way a show hasn't for a long time. Cant wait to watch them again
I hear ya'.
On a side-note I really think Doax should have had a much longer over-arching role
Yeah its one of those things though when you make a TV show you dont know when its going to end, the studio could have killed the show after Season 2 and they'd look like geniuses. If you have an idea you just gotta do it i guess.

I really like Lila, but it seems I am a minority in this
She completely ruins S2
t. Debra
her jubblies don't though
SHe's hot, but i hate her
I thought dexter was gonna frick the ice truck killer before they revealed he was his brother
I thought he was going to frick him after
